It is so touching that the inmates cared enough about this guy to send that signed letter, it also shows they're in fear of their lives.

@@meltedmarshdaddy hey, news flash. Jail is mainly for suspects awaiting trial. Therefore, they are not criminals, they are suspects. Criminals are in prison. The guy that the story featured was never had a trial, so never was a criminal.
Why do we pay all this money in tax dollars to provide the necessary care, but then just let them die in jail for being suspected of a crime? Your callous attitude, the same attitude COs have, is why inmates die in state custody.

When inmates write a letter like that to a deceased one's family and attach their signatures as proof that they are witnesses ready to testify, you should know that they witnessed something happening that deeply saddened their hearts and sickened their souls. I hope mom gets justice.

I agree. Having been incarcerated myself, I know how tough it is to organize three prisnors to write grievances that would improve their own lives. This was obviously manslaughter of the first degree. And, though it would be impossible to prove, I believe this was a hate crime as well.

They need to go outside of the facility and get counsel and sound the alarm and when autopsies are done like with this young man make them accountable for his death. I worked in DOC in NYC and i can tell you most staff and most of the medical staff don't give a f about an inmate's life. But they will do everything in their power to cover it up.

Here's something not mentioned, and people aren't told. Half the Medical Staff (I.E. Doctors and Nurses) were people who started off in the private sector but were kicked out. They were people that got fired for things like stealing and/or using drugs, multiple malpractice suits, alcoholism, incompetence etc. These people couldn't get hired in any clinic or hospital, so the Government throws them a bone. Hires them cheap to work on prisoners. This is a system that's been a place for a very long time.

True. Also some use the title "doctor", but they are merely nurse practioners, which is a notch above a RN. They prescribe medication like a doctor, as they are under the supervision of a doctor. The doctor visits to sign off on their dirty deeds once a month or longer.

I don’t know about this jail but I definitely know this can’t be a blanket statement. I worked for 14 years in a county jail as a correctional nurse and I did that by choice. I’ve worked as a nurse in numerous medical environments and I absolutely loved corrections and I worked with alot of great nurses. You have to have a heart for it for sure.

I was in jail once. I had severe tooth pain but they only removed teeth as the only treatment for everything. The didn't give me my prescribed medications I had on the outside (prostate medication, not a pain killer). And the only thing they'd give the diabetics was apples. One guy was coughing up blood and all they gave him was a cap full of dayquil. You go to jail with a medical condition and you're fucked.

They want respect in the jail when they commit heinous crime in society?
Not to mention all the crimes that they commit in jail.
Two of the deaths were related to drug overdose that were smuggled in. Their own fault.
Imagine these offenders are violent assault criminals ranging from aggravated assault, armed robbery, murder, rape and crimes against children.
Their own despicable actions are disturbing and led them to jail and if they die there, then they die there. Hard to feel any empathy for these punk thugs. Let them rot.

Even those who are convicted of drug offenses hurt their own families significantly. No ONE is victimless.
Yes, many who commit crimes aren't in jail. That's true but I disagree that the majority of people these days who are in jail are there for victimless crimes.
      Especially these days.
In 2015, Nearly half (55%) of people incarcerated in state prisons were convicted of violent crimes.
      In 2022, it's even MORE.
Yes, it's true there have been innocent people who have been convicted.
But I am NOT part of the problem as you say but rather it's people like YOU who defend those who do NOT want to take responsibility for their actions.

Article 1, Paragraph 17 of the Georgia State Constitution says: "nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted." Denying someone medical treatment so that they die is definitely cruel and unusual punishment. The Eighth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution says effectively the same. Computers and schools ..friends and adult teachers that are avowed MARXISTS...drug dealers and early exposure to sex and violence. We can protect them up to a point...some kids just run off the rails.
This is a full on assault to destroy childhood and FAMILIES. But...jails arent there to fix anything...their JOB is to securely and safely and fairly protect the inmate for Trial...dont forget...not everyone is actually guilty...innocent until proven guilty right?

I'm sorry but every single jail and prison need to be completely investigated about every single death in these jails. When any inmate dies they need to have a full investigation and pull every camera, let every guard or deputy on duty be put on leave until the investigation is over so they can't have " disappearance of evidence". They should have all the medical records as if he died of a ruptured ulcer which could have been operated on had the mother, inmate, anyone told he had issues with ulcers. Not saying this would have helped to save his life but could have given the information to medical staff to give him proper medicine.

Always thinking someone is plotting something or trying to go to the hospital for no reason or they blame it on drug seeking. The culture around those beliefs need to change. I have a close family member who is currently in Gwinnett county jail, over a traffic ticket.. the court system is falling behind there. People who usually get locked up for minor crimes or for traffic , usually go through the court process and either get a bond or a sentence within a week, maximum 2. Now since covid, they are “short” staffed, court dates are pushed back or delayed for thousands of people. The inmates there are on 20+ hrs lock down because there isnt enough staff to let them out.. sometimes not at all. He hasnt formally been arranged for a sentence, and its been well over a year…. I honestly dont know what to do, because having someone you care about being put away like that for little next to nothing is detrimental to his family, business and mental state. It makes you feel like you cant trust police officers , CO staff OR the court system because you have no options other then to “wait” it out. How can you go against a system like the Court System? Gwinnett is the area where they will call in 3 cop cars for a busted headlight, yet turn a blind eye to real issues even denying woman pads and toilet paper in the holding cells. All jails are a little piece of hell, needing God's light, grace, and understanding to respect and love each other. I was told in 2018 they are under investigation for this, I hope they take it seriously this year or like Anderson said, they will face a lot of regrets and fall off their horse.

Different jail but when I was in a new guy came in and we started talking n dude was in hardcore pain n kept throwing up. He said it was due to some stomach problem he has and without his medication its extremely bad. The next day he hung himself due to the CO's not giving him his meds and he couldn't take it anymore. Nothing ever came of that. When I got out I tried to let others know what happened but it was just seen as another suicide by a mentally I'll person. He was 23
