I got sentenced to 2.5 years in juvie prison when I was just shy of 16. I was offered the opportunity to do a 4 month bootcamp program to knock off 6 months of my time. We started with 75 cadets and 15 of graduated, I happened to get stuck going during the end of fall in northern Wisconsin. After 2 months we were hiking for a week at a time in the dead of winter, our drill sergeant were former seals, rangers, and Marines. When we graduated we were told that we could get thru any of the special forces bootcamps. I actually tried to enlist when I got out, but I wasn't allowed due to gang tattoos and not having a driver's liscence. When I was 15 years old I committed some horrific crimes (shootings, aggravated assaults, etc.). When I was caught the judge gave me an opportunity to either go through Boot Camp or straight to prison as an adult, I chose Boot Camp. After leaving Boot Camp I went back to school and received my high school diploma, a scholarship to college and now I own a successful electrical engineering firm. Since that time, I’ve never been in trouble however I do give back to the community and I never forgot the 18 months I spent in Boot Camp. I’m now in my mid 50’s and have never seen the inside of a prison. I hope many of those young boys get out and become productive members of society. I’m an example and product of what can be developed if given a second chance.
I'm studying forensics and psychology (In Canada not US so our prison systems are way different, most are non-profit). Out of curiosity did this type of bootcamp help every person there? Or did it lead to some becoming more violent and distrustful of authority even more?

My son is 2 months old. I hope that that boy got out of boot camp and turned it around so he could be present as a father. I was locked up previous to this but I was lucky enough to get out before he was born. Being a father is one of the greatest joys you can have as a man, I hope that everyone who deserves it gets to experience it. Edit: I think the old dude (Taurence?) probably had a lot of good knowledge to speak to people. Despite being locked up since he was 16, I feel like he’d be quite the interesting person to talk to.
This sits so close to home for me, I was given the choice military or prison. I chose the military. Even though because of severe childhood trauma, I wasn’t suppose to go there either. The constant yelling was hard, but I was use to it from my mother. It completely changed my entire life. Dear lord, save these human beings, let your kingdom come and they can be made new. To this very day, I still fear prison.
Thank you for your service, sir! I appreciate how hard you must have worked to turn your life around. May God continue to bless you and yours as you love and serve Him.
I watch these to remind myself that I am so blessed. Yeah I'm tired from work/life but I have a good job, can drive myself around, eat what I want, have my kids with me, and come home to my comfortable house and bed. Not to mention 99 other little conveniences that I took for granted today.
You should watch some videos of people who actually lived in Florida prisons. These PC documentaries don't come close to the reality of US prisons and jails
I've seen it, Its a toss up for me. You're gambling with (incredibly) bad conditions, or a thousand people who will all stab or cut you for little to no reason. I've been locked up personally, in the US
Giving me flashbacks to my boot camp in 2004. 13 weeks of absolute hell. The hardest part is not laughing some of the time because some of the drill instructors have some damn good jokes.
@@EmmyLouWells74 I think he means he went to military boot camp, i’ll argue this is worse because they have no remorse for you since these recruits r horrible people coming into it
4:12 This is my favorite part of Watching Boot camp clips is when they make the recruits do something and then yell at them to undo it for no reason 😂😂 "Get off my bus.....back on the bus!" 💀
You should be. If you're poor. You'll do the time for the rich man who actually committed the crime. .. I wonder why police suicide is a national epidemic??? Hmmmm it doesn't the a rocket scientist to figure out these lowlifes are extremely guilty for the crimes they committed
I agree. Prisoners have an understandably bad stigma, but the truth about our system of justice is that while more people in jail/prison are (hopefully) guilty than not guilty, a substantial percentage of them are likely innocent. 97% of all convictions are as a result of a plea deal. Due to mandatory minimum sentences, going to trial is often wayyy too risky to even consider. Even if you were absolutely positively falsely accused of a crime, and if found guilty of that crime, the mandatory minimum is 25 years, and the district attorney, knowing there is very little evidence in his/her favor, offers you a plea of 6 months, would you go to trial? I know personally I wouldn't leave 25 years of freedom up to 12 strangers too stupid to get out of jury duty... It's too unpredictable. Take the deal, do your time, and hopefully get your life back together when it's done. Happens every day.
I was locked up in 6A1 when I was just 17 years old facing 3 life sentences. What they are showing on here is a understatement on what really goes on in there
I'm shocked 😮but my curiosity is peeked - What did you do to get 3 life sentences at 17?!? At such young age to get 3 life sentences is something that is mind boggling for me
My father was a teacher at Gardner prison in CT helping them get their G.E.D. 99.9 of the prisoners were very respectful nobody dared touch him (he had a panic button which he never had to use) Most were just so happy to get out of their cell. Some to this day will send cards to the prison for him just being respectful.
People forget constantly that they're people and products of their environment. If a wealthy priveleged kid was raised in the environment of a gang member, they would turn out just the Same.
I was wondering while watching how many guys went to the Marines right after boot camp. After 16 months of boot camp 6 weeks of basic training would be a breeze. That's an awesome story though. Congratulations on becoming a man. That was probably one of the best decision you ever made. Inspiring.
This is legit better than the other kinds of prisons you see on this series. It's hard and still a punishment, but these guys might actually change their ways and gain a bit of perspective from this experience

Psychological torture and keeping a person in a perpetual stress state are not going to yield good results. They’re causing further damage to damaged people. Lmao. Lots of people who end up in jail got whoopings as kids. You can't dispute the fact that beatings are detrimental to a child's mental health. And when a parent hits their child, the child is likely to grow up thinking that's the way to solve problems and express themselves. If you need to resort to violence in order to raise a child, you're obviously not fit to be a parent.
I love watching prison and jail documentaries. One reason is because I don’t like watching scripted tv and also because it’s a major reminder not to go back to that lifestyle. Whenever I feel down I always remind myself how much worse life gets and gives me motivation to stay on the straight and narrow. I’ve come too far to fuck it all up especially when behind bars is a living mental and physical hell.
I love how these offenders say "they don't care if we get hurt" when many of them went out there and hurt and threatened other, innocent people. Then, when it comes to punishment they suddenly believe they deserve to be treated with care? Where was the care when they hurt other people?
