- DiRT 2 for a lot of people is the pinnacle of the numbered series. It was a casual game that was still focused on being the best overall off road racer it could be at the time, and is perhaps where Codemasters should have looked when developing DIRT 5, as there is a lot of inspiration to take from this game and DiRT 3. Today we're going to review the final game to carry the Colin McRae name.

Love the GT Sport Content bro, Still remember playing this gem for 100's of hours in 2009 when it came out at 9 years old, God time flies..
I played through the entire career mode a couple of weeks ago. DiRT2 and DiRT3 are both incredibly good. It's a terrible shame what's been done to the quality of the franchise.

@@Koen1702 I don't know what to tell you. I put the disc into my Windows 10 laptop and it just runs.

Omfg you triggered my nostalgia Bonner! This game is what got me into the dirt series, and I fucking loved it. Great review!
Played through D2 a few weeks ago and now doing the same with D3. Even with the repetitiveness and lack of stages, these games are massive fun. It’s a reminder when Codemasters were at their best.
I regret not playing DiRT, the earlier games were so fun from what I've seen!

I think it was the trailblazer mode, I loved that mode in dirt 2, best racing game for me, I loved it

Great review. Iv been playing and uploading all the old Codemasters games recently. For PC this was the first Direct X 11 game made. A good honest fun game this was.

Don't know if you played it but I quite liked Grid Autosport from days gone by. Wasn't for everyone but I had some fun times on that game.
This game is in my Top3 all tima favorite racing games list. Very much fun, amazing music and 120% fun. Sadly you can't buy it anymore, because Codemasters only licensed the music for 5 years, so they are not selling the game since 2014.
No other Dirt game close to this one.
Dude I remember putting so many hours in this game in the singleplayer. I remember getting my first wheel and tried playing it on it and then I sucked so I went back to controller on my ps3 and carried on enjoying it. Such a childhood game for me same as Grid.
My favourite unoriginal soundtrack of all time, I still listen to a good few songs that I first heard on the game.
Also the only game I've ever got 1,000G on twice, loved it so much that even after making a new account I wanted to get full gamerscore again.
Dirt 5 is a disgrace to the Dirt series. Dirt 1 to 3 are amazing for the years they were released in. Dirt 4 had a good idea of replayability by random track generation, but it failed because the corners were too similar and it gave you a strange sense of deja-vu, even though you didn't play the track before. Dirt 4 was not bad, it was okay-ish, but Dirt 5 is a disaster that should have never existed.

i rly wish they could remaster Dirt 2 for the current consols and PC i would insta buy it same goes for Dirt 3
I replayed most of the CMR games a few years ago and coming from the first Dirt this one felt like a weird sidestep. Dirt 1 had a lot of unique tracks and cars, going straight into Dirt 2 the lack of variety in the latter was very apparent. Also the AI in this game can be insane at times, I've played at max difficulty (6) and in some tracks I ended up in the top 100s/200s on the PC leaderboards just to get a win.
0:42 I never played Dirt 2 but this part immediately screams NFS ProStreet to me.
I’ve enjoyed all the mainline dirt games I’ve played and I’ll rank them.
1.) Dirt 3 (my childhood, loved it still do)
2.) Dirt 4 (great simcade rally experience but got boring after a while)
3.) Dirt 5 (everyone said it’s horrible but I really liked it. Good chill arcade fun. Track editor is real cool. My only gripes are the slow ai and bad rolling physics. However I do agree with your summary at the end saying they should have built on 2 and 3.)

Serious question people. I absolutely loved Dirt 3 before my PS3 ended itself and I currently have Dirt Rally 2.0 but I want an arcade Dirt game as well. Do I get Dirt 5 or Dirt 4? I'm leaning towards 4 and online play isn't a factor that I give much weight to. If it helps, my favourite classes are F2 Kit Cars, and S2000/R5.
4 is better, but it’ll likely disappoint compared to 3. Aside from that, there isn’t much

yeah, would be much better if *Codemasters* just do remasters of the *Dirt* trilogy instead *Dirt 5*
Have you reviewed the 2008 version of Grid? I think it's one of the greats when it comes the track racers.

@@JustDevon if you ever do, don't turn off the Stability Assist. It's not actually a stability assist, it just either makes turning in easier, or more "realistic", where you understeer with a LMP1 car on a fast corner and see everyone else just overtake you at mach speed.

You can see this game was a huge inspiration for Forza Horizon.
NFS pro street also has a huge “event” type feel also.

To make matters worse, Dirt 3 (as well as Dirt Showdown) was pull off from Steam. Luckily I still have my copy, but it was never explain why it was removed...
a lot of content in that game we're all copyrighted/licensed to begin with, starting from cars, songs, and all that monster energy stuff, and this is also the reason why earlier-era NFS games cannot be bought legally save for Undercover and The Run for weird reasons, like you can get UC on Steam but it was removed from Origin for odd reasons and The Run was still is Origin-exclusive despite EA bringing back later NFS titles on Steam starting from MW12
Exactly I also think the difficulty is whack in this. I was going to play the whole game in extreme but I can never win a time trial or a trailblazer event in this game.
Extreme is not so hard. Maybe it helps using a wheel (as i do).

I feel DiRT 2 was better than DiRT 3, but only slightly. And most of it is due to the trailer-based menu.
Paradoxically, this was the game in the series that turned me away. I'm a rally fan, but this was far too 'American' for me with graffiti-style tags, backward caps, and a focus on stadium events. Codemasters finally won me back with DiRT Rally.
lol seeing this again after playing the newest dirt game is depressing. the new dirt is basically a remake of the older games.
