- A very special (not to mention historic!) session with Gary Groth (founder and publisher of the Comics Journal, and Fantagraphics 'Publisher of the World's Greatest Cartoonists') in conversation with Mr. Robert Crumb, hailed as the founder of the Underground Comix Movement, and for 'deflowering' comics everywhere!
This session was recorded live at on 19th February, on the final day of the Second Annual Indian Comics Convention, held at Dilli Haat, New Delhi.

For those that don't know (see comments below), Gary Groth is arguably partly responsible for Crumb's transition into being an art hero in the MODERN era and has helped Crumb earn significant amounts of money. This may be why Crumb seems to tolerate or perhaps even slightly respect him more than a lot of other people.
The talent of Robert Crumb, transcends the "Psychodelic", like so many other great artists in history, he is a one-of-a-kind, and he, like so many other geniuses in history, felt naturally compelled to produce. He had no choice, "The great Springwell of Creativity", as Bob Dylan would put it, "Was compelling him to produce. He had no choice."
Great to see him make it out to India, he was going to come to Australia to do a talk at the Opera House but the media were quite brutal about his previous work, so he didn't want to come anymore.
Fuck, really? I didn't hear about that. What media? Packer empire? Murdoch scum?
Thank you so much , Robert ! Your cartoons caracters are so alived , that we can smell them , feel them ! Your the only one who have, reach , attained ,that hight level of expression ,as a cartoonist ARTIST ! Thank you fellow , my friend in spirit .

How he speaks man, I just picked it up for a while when I saw the documentary first. It was hard to drop, but I dropped it. He was in India, it was fu"king insane.
Dear robert , I guess that you know , that , in france there is a cartoonist , drawing cartoons caracteres ,with a familiar style of expression , kind of similar in many way to your work, his name is GOTLIB , But you still my favorite cartoonist , from them all !
Since my neighbor, S.Clay Wilson passed, I've been going back in time.

In the commentary Zwigoff did with Ebert, he says that Lynch did not respond to a request for funds until after the film was already finished, but they agreed to include Lynch's name in the advertising and credits to attract more viewers." Also, why is it a once in a lifetime opportunity? Crumb is a cool guy, makes dope comics, but stop with that typical American idol worshiping a human into infinity. It's nauseating and ironically very uncrumblike.

To explain some one that doesn't know who Crumb is.. just say " The guy who drew the cartoon on t shirts Keep on Trucking!"... and the cartoon Fritz the Cat! I myself love the way he draws! Especially women!
I am here just for R. Crumb, but this interviewer is dismal. And don’t get me started on the needless camera angles and cuts...

Gawd - they rented the camera jib and just had to over use it. Not once do you see a tight shot of Crumb’s face. Terrible video editing.

What a horrible interviwer. He doesn't pay attention to what Crumb says, he barely laughs with him, he's just too worried about the whole interview thing. You gotta know how to conversate.. It gets better by the end thbo.

You think? I actually think Crumb's great at conversating, and can easily express himself through words. And that ''blowing nose'' thing is just him showing off, showing he doesn't care and hates that kind of bullshit. Somewhat punk attitude.

Gary Groth is a friend of his. He has published several of his books. He is also one of the founders of the Comics Journal where he has conducted tons of great interviews.
