I think they were supposed to bring the tortoise back to study but because they couldn't stop eating them, the tortoises weren't well/properly characterised for a long time. I can only imagine the conversation went something like 'you fucking ate them again?!' And then the sailors just shrugging and commenting on how delicious they are

Okay i discovered this a while back from a tumblur post, but the word ferret was derived from the Latin word furritus which means "Little Thief" so that means that a huge opportunity to call a group f ferrets a guild has been squandered.

I use it when making green beans. Just toss in a spoonful for each cans worth of beans and it gives them a great flavor.

Man... turtles and tortoises are my favorite animals. Turns out, they are the perfect animal to eat. Not just in terms of taste and edibility, but also in storage advantages. I'm hurt, and curious by how they taste.

It is the amount of time to get them to a good harvest size that limits it. To farm or ranch them you need an area without a lot of ground predators so limits you to islands for the most part and you need to be able to get in and collect the eggs to hatch them where rats can't get to them.

It almost hurts to here people talk about not liking fat. It's the one macronutrient that won't kill you if you ate it exclusively, it's the one truly healthy source of energy, that unlike protein, you can't overdo.

My Grandmother would collect the drippings from the tray below the broiled steak, and pour it over the meat before serving. She called it "Juice". They family dog had the greese from every family meal dumped over its dog food before serving. She called it "Flavor". Pour animal swelled up, and just fell over dead one day. I would request my steak, without juice, Please.

Group of jellyfish: bloom. It is because they generally occur in certain times of year like seasonal flowers do.
