      He should’ve. I totally agree. He was a grown man at the time, although still young, he was over 18, I would believe? I wish he’d just man up and tell where she is. Although if her remains are scattered in the other town they mentioned, that may be difficult, but still hopefully able to be done. I wonder how they knew she’d been moved 3x and the last time her remains scattered. Good police investing i would imagine?
      Edit: I couldn’t imagine losing your daughter and not knowing-but having a real gut feeling that Paul was involved but the police could never find her remains. And The Flores’ wouldn’t say anything, only to save their sorry asses. I was THRILLED when they reopened her case and arrested Paul & his father. I have a feeling Mama Flores is gonna go down next. She NEVER should’ve given that interview!! But I’m so thankful she did!! I also have been praying for justice for Kristin and her family!! I couldn’t imagine going ALMOST 3 decades with no answers as to where your child is 😭

    • @OhLanie
      @OhLanie 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The media and the police are still saying "possible" human remains and that the coroner's office will have to confirm they are human remains. I find that interesting for several reasons. They obviously didn't find a skull since that would make it easily identifiable as human, this has to be a partial set of remains. There must not be any clothing or belongings on or around the remains because that too could identify the remains as human. (And while this is a reach, the news has said the remains were "scattered" which seems to be how these possible remains were found, scattered. If the Flores family disposed of her body, I'm sure they would have removed any clothes or jewelry to make it difficult to identify her.) And finally, if there are only bones the remains had to be there quite a while.

      @@heygusgus At least Paul was denied bail. I'm actually surprised given everything they released Ruben and didn't put an ankle monitor on him.
      The thing that is really making me feel a bit hopeful is that from what the police said it was Ruben, Susan and her boyfriend that "worked through the night" and moved her remains. Well, that made me think. How would police know who was there and how long it took? They have to have SOMETHING to make that statement. Ring doorbell footage from a neighbor? Did the boyfriend talk? The boyfriend being there is what gives me the most hope. He may be in love with Susan but he is not married to her and he is not Paul's step father. (Not to mention, rarely does the current boyfriend really like the ex husband lol) I'm hoping he is the linchpin in this and they can give him immunity to turn them ALL in but I would honestly settle for Ruben and Paul in jail.

They said in their press release that Ruben, Susan and her boyfriend "worked through the night to move the remains". How do they know who was there, what they were doing or how long it took? Doorbell or security footage? Did the boyfriend turn on them? (To ME that makes the most sense. He may be/have been in love with Susan but they aren't married so no spousal privilege. Cal Poly police and the San Luis Obispo Sheriff's department are both guilty in that respect!! thank God they have a leader now that has the courage to move forward on this case! Locals are disgusted that right before the last search of the father's property it seems like the body was moved again and who knows where the parts were scattered now?? Paul's mother needs to be heavily investigated also as she has had no empathy for the Smart family's loss of their daughter!! in fact, it sounds like he had other assaults after Kristen Smarts so in a way she enabled her son's perverted ways!! If there is talk of a plea deal, can a complete dig be done of Susan's backyard and total demolition of the garage be done? Cadaver dogs did detect something. A complete search for further evidence should probably be done, preferably before a trial. Evidence strongly suggests this family moved her body maybe more than once. There is a very good chance at least some physical evidence exists here. If not, Susan won't be able to afford to keep the home for long!

I am under the impression that this could have been solved a long time ago, but for whatever reason, clues were ignored or missed. Is it possible that an investigator back then or the district attorneys office had inexperienced investigators and they didn't know what to do?? One thing I read was that they knew Flores was pouring cement at the house right after this happened, but didn't pursue digging that up even though he was a person of interest? Maybe I read the articles wrong????

      I highly recomend the podcast. They admitted that mistakes were made. Which is so sad because seemingly other women were assaulted afterwards.
      If I understood correctly there was a search warrant which allowed law enforcement to dig up the whole yard. So they started and found nothing when they did get to the concrete part they debated if it was worth a lawsuit or pay the demages afterwards. And they decided against it. They regretted that decision later on but I think legally if you were granted a warrent and didn't search that part by your own choosing you wont get a second chance. However the Floreses filed a civil lawsuit against the smart s and in regards of discovery they had another chance to search the yard but that excluded the concrete I think. Like I said the podcast explains it much better.

    After the warrant turned up nothing, they should have used hidden surveillance, knowing the search was going to stir up the hornet's nest. As a matter of fact, they could've ensure catching them red handed just by saying, "We will come back, we are getting a new type of ground penetrating radar that can find a bone fragment just an inch long under 50 feet of dirt and rock." Sure, it's a lie, but it would 100% guarantee that they'd dig the body up.
