    I carry 180gr HST for years and ignore all the “it’s not optimized for carry” crap! It’s big. It’s heavy and it will put a big hole in you.

    I’ve been a Gold Dot fan for years. It’s performed very well in almost every video I’ve seen. I have to tell you though, those HST’s are looking pretty damn good. Those cutting pedals look like they would do some real damage. Great vid as usual sir.

      I liked those rounds. I don't think Winchester makes them anymore though. It's ashamed...the only 135gr 40 s&w bullet that had good penetration.

    Both of these look like good choices for carry ammo. I personally carry 124gr HST and 135gr Critical Duty in my Glock 19, I stagger my mag 1 HST to 2 Critical Duty, rinse and repeat until full. I hope I never need to use them, but I feel good about them stopping a threat to my life. I also see that this is hip replacement number 2 for Jim in the last 12 months! I am afraid he might spend his old age in a wheelchair at this rate. That’s unfortunate. I also wondered if those were brand new blocks of gel or whether they were recent reconditions that you might’ve done. I know I heard Buffalo outdoors talk about how he use the heat gun and maybe some tool like a spatula to smooth them out when they had wrinkles in them. So take that for whatever it’s worth. Thanks again for another good video, it was very entertaining and informative.

  • @jamespugh
    @jamespugh 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    40s&w wins even not best expansion. The bullet weight in pentrashion is key to take down the threat. Try some critical duty in 40s&w like to see how they do.

      Laughs in 10mm .40 Short & weak. Get a 10mm.

    • @frawdulent
      @frawdulent ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I agree. Even though it looked like 9mm expanded more, it was just the jacket that expanded and not the lead. 40sw is superior to 9mm in every way, shape, and form. It’s just a fact. It was specifically developed to perform well.

    • @taasch2505
      @taasch2505 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SoWavvyy what a moron. .40 is anything but short and weak and it offers a smaller sized profile. Only reason to get a 10mm is for brown bear country. Otherwise the trade offs aren't even worth it. Especially since half the 10mm guns out there keep breaking from the pressures. Plus ammo is reasonable and easy to find everywhere for .40.

      Critical Defense is better. 165gr is best for the .40... Velocity does matter ya know.... 180gr is SUBsonic in the .40. for the 10mm it's fine but for the .40 150 - 165 is best!

      As far as common 40 loads, the critical defense is the best.
      I get 1150 fps from a 3.3 inch barrel.. thats a nasty 40 load.

    I carry the 124 grn +P Gold Dot in my 9mm. i just bought a box of the HST 124 grn +P. but at today's prices and availability, I am hanging on to both. One day when I shoot off the GD to rotate, I will unbox the HST. I am perfectly happy with either, and believe I am armed sufficiently.
    Not sure if I missed it, but you said the guns have comparable length barrels. What length are they? They look about 3.75 inches. Is that right?

    Never seen HST perform like that. Guess I'll go watch that other video now.
    That said, it performed quite well.
    The 165 GD performance is pretty much textbook perfect as well. Not sure what more you'd ask for. I personally prefer the 40 in the 155GoldDot, but it's no longer available. It ran 1250fps from a Glock 22. I still have a full case of it, just in case
    Odd. I scrolled the video back to get the link to the previous review (I saw it pop up the first time through). The link doesn't pop up watching it the 2nd thru 4th times. Guess I'll try to search it on your page. I don't tend to have a great deal of luck with that. 🤞

    Yes the 180gr performed better even so it has less velocity. I have observed the same thing with 45 ACP tests that mostly the 230gr bullets open up wider and making a bigger wound chanel vs the 185gr bullets. I think with modern bullet technoligy the velocity arent important that much any more.

    • @pewpew9193
      @pewpew9193 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you're carrying 9mm, the Critical Duty 135 grain +P is about as good as it gets for the caliber.
      You're doing just fine.
      Those rounds perform well through barriers & expand reliably (although not the most extreme expansion out there) & penetrate optimally.
      I prefer .40 for carry, but when I do carry 9mm, that's the ammo I use.

    A surgeon wouldn't be able to tell the difference and the same for 45ACP in the wounds left by either, human tissue doesn't react like gelatin. Bullet placement what matters not the caliber, both will do well if they hit critical areas of the body.

    • @jacobpetersen5662

      Shot placement is a luxury in real life. Bigger bullet, bigger hole, more blood loss. It makes a difference, absolutely. Most people die from blood loss.
