- Video log of a morning visit to French Creek in Allamakee County on Monday, September 30, 2024. The section of the creek fished in this video log contains wild brown trout.
French Creek is governed by special Iowa DNR regulations and is catch and release, artificial flies only.
On this particular morning I started fishing at my stopping point back in April 2023 (Vlog #23) and continued my upstream exploration.

That second brown was so dark with par marks still! 😮 Seemed like that euro leader worked well too! So cool to see all the same but different spots in each brown! That 14er had a bald head and then a ton of spots going up into its dorsal fin! 😍13:30 that little deep riffle! Is so fun picking up big fish in small place! Another great day in the water Gary! 👏
@@tenkaragenki Thanks much Jared! Yep, that was probably the most brown trout variety I’ve seen on a single trip out of one section of creek. It was definitely a fun and productive morning!
That is a beautiful stream with nice browns.
@@davidschroeder9650 Yes, it’s one of the nicer Iowa Driftless creeks to fish with tenkara gear, and the restrictive regulations help control the amount of pressure on the wild fish.
That's a nice section of stream to fish. The color and spot patterns of the browns appear to vary widely.
Agreed. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of good water through that part of the creek, especially the fun little sections of pocket water. Thanks for the comment Steve!

@@david-marynoll5699 I can’t believe I’ve waited this long to check out the middle portion of this creek Dave…and I still have some left to explore! Yep, we’re girding ourselves for the mid-Oct cross-border invasion. A joint trip with Dre would be a blast. I think Jared couldn’t wait to get those massive brookies publicized. 😉
