yep! thats exactly the enthusiasm i had fly fishing for salmon,i need to get it back some how,James is an inspiration, wish i lived close to that river system, really great film that, enjoyed it.
Really enjoyed this video as with many of your other ones. James is very engaging and explains things really well. It’s given me plenty of food for thought with my own salmon and sea trout fishing.
Great video James, recognising many of the spots and features I fished with you and of course my first fly caught salmon - hope to be with you and Andy again 👌🏼
Brilliant video!! I used to fish the N Tyne and S Tyne every week and had some lovely Salmon and Seatrout off the S Tyne and main Tyne. Not been for 12 years, but hope to get the "bug" back again. More films like this please!!!
Great video. Agree with some of the other comments - James is a natural on camera. Good to see more videos with him on this river. Fantastic place. Got the net out way too early on the missed sea trout though! Rushed it!😂 happens to us all 😂
A great video James some great advice and information, love the emotional up and downs of salmon fishing which is all too familiar. I also like the practical honest balance between theory and reality! Some lovely looking water and lovely strong fish. Not easy producing for the camera, well done! Thanks for producing and sharing.
Yes really enjoyed this film great example of what to do on the river for starters 👍 used to do a power of fly fishing still have some lovely gear there rods and reels I got heavily in to the sea fishing from the rocks etc , but I'll always keep the fly gear,, cheers 👍🎣
I definitely prefer a faster action nymphing rod for this for that hook set. Sage esn and echo shadow 2 have been great. I think a contact 2 3wt would be nice as well but haven’t tried it for this. That echo shadow 2 is really hard to beat for the money, it gets down and dirty. Really nice dry fly rod as well, it can really cast a fly line unlike some of the other euro rods I’ve used.
Very enjoyable video James. I still harbour hopes of catching a Tyne salmon, but I would struggle with that wading! The good old Currys Shrimp, had my best ever day on the Cumbrian Derwent with that fly.
Stokoe Shrimp works for me on the Tyne - I tie my own with Foxytails synthetic, ginger inner wing with a red outer, red cock hackle. Size 12 and 14s. Ive got bushy ones, and sparse. Fulling Mill Magni doubles of course !. Great stuff James.
What a fantastic video that was James I really enjoyed that. Some really good explanations on technique and river craft, I might even start using a dropper myself now😊 Great production and narration keeps the attention going the whole way through the video. The large net is definitely a problem with the drag, its ok if someone netting for you but on your own its quite a challenge, the smaller version might be better for summer. Well done on the fish as well 3 fish in day is great going. Although the Tyne is quiet far away for me would love a cast on it one day looks a great river.
Fished this Warden stretch a lot when I was in the TWF club 18+ years, which now share it with day ticket anglers. This beat from the Folly pool down to Chair has been on TV now a few times with Robson Green and Mortimer and Whitehouse fishing it, and on youtube and you never see much caught there. Shame to say it, but the Tyne just isn't the river it used to be. I pulled a 24lb fish from the Upper Casting platform but that was many years ago - it's rare these days. Every year the Kielder salmon hatchery release salmon fry in the hundreds of thousands - the river should be lifting with fish but it isn't. The fish are released into the North Tyne only so the South Tyne above the junction pool sees no benefit, and is a spate river so just doesn't fish at all unless there has been plenty of rain. As for the North Tyne, that too relies on Kielder water releases for a decent water height, and falls right away to very little if there is no water release on. I can't for the life of me see why people are paying hundreds of pounds a day to fish it in the salmon season. These days I head an hour further north up to the tweed and it's tributaries - quieter, easier and safer fishing underfoot, physically more fly fishing friendly and better value. I enjoy watching James Stokoe fish - he's very knowledgeable and knows that river better than anyone - but if he's struggling - then that says something.
That's a great point about the net and trying to control it and the fish and fast water, very difficult sometimes. You need to hit the gym a bit more James to strengthen those arms.😂💪💪

So glad you enjoyed it! The Tyne is in great shape, you should definitely make a trip over.
Really enjoyed that. The Tyne system looks lovely and James seems like a really good bloke. Would love to fish with him

Brilliant video, we need more of these on TH-cam. Well done James really enjoyed that 🎣👍
We'll keep em coming 😃
Thank you for your honesty, hopefully we can aspire with the help from souls like yourself.
Very honest and enjoyable. I’m a North and South Tyne angler and it ain’t easy wading. Great to see the emotion with fish lost and caught!
Thanks for your kind words, and glad you enjoyed it! Loosing a fish hurts, but especially when it's fish like those that you work so hard for.
What a fantastic watch and some invaluable advice from James all the way through - learned a lot!
Glad to hear it!
Well done ! Another great video guys.James is such a character and can't wait to join him on the Tyne in search of the Big Salmon. 👏👏 🐋

Really enjoyed this video as with many of your other ones. James is very engaging and explains things really well. It’s given me plenty of food for thought with my own salmon and sea trout fishing.

Brilliant video!! I used to fish the N Tyne and S Tyne every week and had some lovely Salmon and Seatrout off the S Tyne and main Tyne. Not been for 12 years, but hope to get the "bug" back again. More films like this please!!!
Thanks Richard, we'll keep em coming just as long as you get out fishing again 😉
I've been fishing the blyth river this year and had a 6 pound sea trout out yesterday not a monster but good fish would love to fish the tyne
Great watch, great fishing and I'll need to try and remember your trick of keeping the rod free when the head banging starts
It's a great trick for playing fish!
Great Video full of good informations. I like your enthusiastic approach.
Great video. Agree with some of the other comments - James is a natural on camera. Good to see more videos with him on this river. Fantastic place. Got the net out way too early on the missed sea trout though! Rushed it!😂 happens to us all 😂
He is a wonderful teacher. We’re glad you liked it!

Very glad you enjoyed it. It all came together nicely for the camera, which isn't often the case!
Great watch James. 🙌🏻
Fantastic video, keep the coming !
We sure will 😁

You'll most definitely have to get back out there!
Lovely video start to finish.
Thank you so much! Very glad you enjoyed it.

Fabulous Vid - thanks 😁
Great info.Used to spin tobys (copper) for salmon on the border esk Nothing beats Sea trout after dark Just have to know what fly to use
Very enjoyable video James. I still harbour hopes of catching a Tyne salmon, but I would struggle with that wading! The good old Currys Shrimp, had my best ever day on the Cumbrian Derwent with that fly.
It’s never too late to give it a go! If you’re worried about wading, I’m sure James can help you find the safe spots.
This has made me want to go from the Stillwaters for trout to the rivers for Salmon & Sea trout! Any advice of how to find local rivers etc..
Awesome video 👍👊
Brilliant 👍
Good watch James .
Brilliant video very informative, thanks
Glad it was helpful!

Good video mate thanks,,,,,,!!,
Lovely river. Did the Kielder hatchery bring it back to where it is now?
Nice litle film, do you tie on your flies with a loop so they hang lose steering knot or just knot used on lures ?

Sea trout hudini 🤪👏🏻
Two Irish Shrimp flies. ☘️ 🎣👍🏻🦐

42:12 big fish or little fish making a big splash😂
Anyone know what rods are being used
Try putting a stone in the net. It should help give more control. Works for me.
That's a good tip! We'll give it a try.
Great video…maybe get your net out a little later 😂😂
Is leaving your rod at a pool the same as leaving your towel at a pool?? 😂
Or on the “German” deckchair?
Has there been a pollution i think march time ? Killed nearly all the dace and chub in the Tyne.
