    JHM has come up with an innovative solution and replacement for those fragile OEM PCV valves which cost over $300 each. If your RS5 has suddenly started to sound like it's whistling at idle, your PCV valves have gone bad. It's also a good pre-emptive move to reduce oil consumption as the valves can go bad over time prior to developing a completely torn diaphragm and the dreaded whistle.

If they've left anything out, get that sorted asap. It's critical the rear diff and transmission be serviced on time. Once you have that and the carbon clean done, time to start modifying! What are the symptoms of having bad pcv besides the noise? I’m getting oil on my MAP sensor trying to figure out why? Also getting MAP sensor error code P0106. I’ve replaced it once it went away with the new sensor, reset the code and came back a month later. The chain of thought is that I’m wondering if the error is coming from the oil found on the MAP sensor and the oil is coming from bad PCV.

    • @RS5Fanatic
      @RS5Fanatic  ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually the dreaded "train whistle" at idle. It's loud. Other than that, a bit more oil consumption. Oil on the MAP sensor is normal but excessive oil can be a problem. I'm guessing you may have a wiring issue or even a leak someplace.

I have lots of low water crossings where I live and I'd just avoid them. On a roots or whipple-type SC in the engine's valley, definitely a good option from a packaging standpoint but those blowers are not meant for engines running north of 8,000 rpm. You're forced to under-spin the rotors to keep them in their efficiency range. The centrifugal will have a much larger max efficiency range of operation where it's heating up the air far less than the roots blower. But good discussion, should join up on www.audirevolution.net. • @RS5Fanatic
      @RS5Fanatic  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes but it's for the transmission, not the engine. It's more of an overflow system. On some Audi vehicles, the tuned DSG's can puke transmission fluid out of the top vent (TTRS and RS3 are notorious for this) and I created/installed one for my RS5 since I was doing a lot of hot weather performance testing.

      I don't believe so. It's specifically designed for the RS5. Unless the Q7 is using an identical setup but from my understanding the 4.2L in the Q7 is the older 4.2L, not the CFSA code 4.2L in the RS5.

    I don't understand why they couldn't make the aluminum adapters angled and use longer hoses to mimic the same path as the factory units. It's annoying that you can't use the engine cover.

    • @RS5Fanatic
      @RS5Fanatic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The hose path isn't the real issue, it's the height of the billet adapter that bolts to the intake manifold. It can't be made any lower and the elbows have the tightest bend of any fitting out there. Due to the height of the elbows, the cover doesn't fit. Since that's the determining factor, it then becomes more economic to run the hoses in a more direct path. I actually like the look of the intake manifold without the cover but that's obviously a very personal choice. It's a part that will last the lifetime of your vehicle yet is cost-effective.

    • @RS5Fanatic
      @RS5Fanatic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First and foremost, keep your maintenance up to date. I like to change spark plugs every 25K miles at most, coils round 60K on the ignition side. I'd also recommend getting a Ross-Tech VCDS to monitor the car's health and scan for codes. Any codes should be taken care of immediately, especially on the fuel side, don't let them fester. Make sure to not let the car heat up by just sitting there. Once the fast idle ends (even before it ends), start driving the car. This'll get the catalysts up to temp more quickly along with your oil and piston rings. This keeps oil contamination with volatiles (blow by) lower. Change the oil every 5K miles not every 10K. Chain stretch is really rare on the B8.5 RS5's. It seems to be more common on the European B8 cars but nothing like the B7 RS4's. Also your cats should be covered up to 80,000 miles in the US. If you start having erratic idle, increased oil consumption, and the tell-tale high pitched whistle, they've gone bad. Yours should be fine at 33K (mine went out at about 65K) but it's not a bad idea to just replace the OEM version with the billet as it'll never go bad and you won't have to worry about it. Can reach me at sales@redmistracing.com for more questions and pricing. www.redmistracing.com
