Definitely my favorite gen of RS5, and the best V8 Audi ever made. It's still a bit too nose-heavy (as are all Audi's, except the R8), but not NEARLY as understeer-y as all the recent RS Audi's. I walked away from a "Final Edition" TT-RS, almost entirely because of the terrible handling (and also because those newer 5cyl engines completely cut you off at like 6800rpm... lame). I really wish Audi had mounted the V8 in these RS5's a bit further back, it was still just way too far forward and it only got worse as they moved into the turbo era. BMW always manages to keep the M cars more front-mid engine, even with the S65 engine in the E92. I've got a '20 M2 CS, and even with the inline-6 longblock and twin turbos, that engine is still pushed so far towards the firewall that it sits behind the front wheels. These things didn't handle nearly as well as the E9x M3's, but they were faster off the line for sure. They really were the final era of high-revving german V8's. The AWD in these RS5's was also way more of a proper AWD system than the goofy Quattro systems in the latest RS3's and stuff, which may as well just be FWD (the rears really only kick in on launches and if it feels a traction loss, but tuning those Haldex systems to be more rear-biased was a nightmare, they just weren't built for it and always break if you try to do even a full-time 40/60 front/rear split). I honestly kind of wish that Audi had done a RWD-only version of these RS5's, but then they stuck that excellent V8 in the R8 and all was basically forgiven. I still think the 1st gen V8 R8 *might* be more fun than the V10 and V10+. That V8 gets slept on, but it's such a damn good engine (and I generally don't even like V8's, I'm more of an inline-6 and Porsche flat-6 guy, but the E9x M3 and this gen of Audi RS cars will always have a place in my heart for being high-revving N/A beasts that were the last of their kind).

is this a sign? I was just looking at these RS5s to move into out of my C6 Vette. If anyone can reply, did the owner ever go over reliability since the install? I didn't catch it in the video and would be the main concern coming from a LS engine.
If you want both power and reliability get yourself a S8, S7, or RS7. The 4.0 twin turbo V8 will do mid-10-second quarters with a custom tune and a few added goodies. You can beat a Z06 while getting a message.

Your M3 + a RS6 would make for a great two car garage imo as far as cars from this era and the two brands go. I feel like you made the right decision too (but I've driven neither).
E92's sound just a little crisper with the DCT. Still looking for a good conditioned/unmolested E90 to add to my stable. Unfortunately it's getting harder and harder.

@mogulme6190 I've had a fair sure of E90's and E92's (335is, few LCI 335's, etc etc). Once you've done the rod bearings and throttle actuators they're actually pretty reliable even when driven the way they were designed for. I've an F90 m5c now and in today's age BMW makes pretty reliable and stout cars.
Wicked ride, definitely embarrass an M3 or ten.. Should note in "these" days the 335i reigned supreme over M3 when it comes to performance, especially with aftermarket modifications😉 Miss racing my buddy's B7 S4 with a MP90 down the country road... good times.

Also doesn’t have very affordable mods to upgrade it just to have the same amount of torque
If we're talking speed, then no, this won't embarrass my f80 m3 lol. 600 whp from e85 and tune, and it's 500 pounds lighter. I drove this generation of RS5 few years ago. I was not impressed at all. Part of the reasons was it was at high elevation (at Denver). But also it just felt too heavy. The lack of torque exaggerated the heaviness. E90 M3 could get away from similar engine because M3 is about 500 lbs lighter. I always think those RS5 should come with forced inductions.
I've always loved these cars purely for the sounds it makes followed by the joy audi v8s bring me. Love the dual clutch cars as well as the manuals. Beautiful machines I will have one in the garage at some point 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
RS6 compared to lets say an F80 M3.. RS6 has better interior, sound and straight line acceleration.. M3 destroys it in handling. Don't even compare it to a G80 M3 cause it will destroy it in every aspect except sound.

Just money. I couldn't afford any more losses on it and had to cut it unfortunately. Lost faith in it and expected further issues going forward so I want a good one that I can work on in future. Best car ever made in my opinion.
@@jamrs5201 yeah I get the point, these cars are no joke when it comes for maintenance unfortunately..
@wolf403 like I said I was thousands into repairs before I knew where I was and had no faith in the gear box, that was another 5k or more just waiting to go wrong. One day hopefully i can revisit this. Have you got one?
@@jamrs5201 i feel u bro! Yes, I’ve got an RS5 b8. Needed a rebuild of the whole engine unfortunately. Set me back a load of money. But was expected with a high km car. Last owner already did the gearbox. I am in a hate love relationship with the rs5. I also don’t like to say goodbye now that I spend so much on it. I will never get it back in this state if I let it go. Then I might have to do it all over again. It’s a gamble. Murphy’s law, what could possibly go wrong after this 😅
Weren’t the R8’s NA V8’s as well? Aside from the V10 of course.
Yeah , 'same' 4.2L V8
@@SapphireSweedBoth are 4.2 V8’s but the R8 is from the last generation V8 RS4. The RS5 V8 is newer generation based off of the V10.
@@dogger37JC ahhh. I didn’t know that. Pretty cool. Would be sweet to own one, that’s for sure.
Yup! We talked about the R8 in the video. Both the V8 R8 and RS5 were built until 2015, however the RS5 had the more powerful and updated version of the 4.2L V8. It was the latest and greatest of that engine.
@RoadsUntraveled where do you get... last gen rs4 v8... info from??
The BNS motor in the RS4-B7(wet sump last Audi manual) is in the 1st gen R8(dry sump gated 6spd) after that went to the v10 engine... so no 2015 BNS v8 R8
Audi RS4-B8(so wasn't last gen right?) & the 8T RS5 have the same CFSA engine in them correct(450hp) so engine wasn't specially made for RS5... & was fitted to the RS4-B8 first correct??
Gorgeous car! Definitely would like to see a dyno video to see what is putting down.
When you press the break and turn on car does it take a few seconds to start like it's trying to get all cylinders fired up? Like 3 secs
What's that digital gauge in the vent?
Most likely a P3 gauge
Beautiful car 👍👍Bet his boss regrets letting that one go. 😂
Please correct me, but it looks more like a turbo than a super charger.. cant see the belts driving the small "turbo/super charger, and never seen a super charger at the bottom either...
I have a 2015 Audi rs5. How do you launch control
Does anyone know what paddles are on that steering wheel?
Looks like a stock wheel with custom paddle shifters, which would be a welcome upgrade since the stock paddles are plastic and kinda mushy feeling.
Any help appreciated!
Magnetic shifters
Congrats!! My plan was to go Stage 3 like this, alas, it was baby time.
What are those paddle shifters? Those seem nice and tactile!
Check out Canadian Auto Performance. I literally just bought those carbon fibre shifts two weeks ago and the build quality and feel are absolutely phenomenal. However, they certainly are not cheap.
The RS5 is definitely on my list of "cool cars to get" if I ever win the lotto. This one is super clean and looks like it runs like a top. Beautiful ride for sure.
the crackles are cringeworthy. hoping it holds up for the owner. sounds like the clutches are slipping.
sez the honda drivere
Agreed the clutches were slipping. You can hear it.
i lovi didt know the a5 came with a retractable wing.that is super cool.was it taken off a a7?
it looks perfect at every angle
How much did it cost to do all that?
How’d he get CarPlay on that MMI system?
I want to know the paddle shift information. where can I but it ?
I still have no clue why they put four doors on the newer S5s.
Was that James?!?!?!.......i thought this was Donut Media..😮😊
Beautiful, I got a 2014. What wheels specs? Spacers? God so good looking!
is this a sign? I was just looking at these RS5s to move into out of my C6 Vette. If anyone can reply, did the owner ever go over reliability since the install? I didn't catch it in the video and would be the main concern coming from a LS engine.
Its 100% less reliable and more expensive to modify
You're looking at a very high change in maintenance costs even when stock. 2015 has less transmission issues
If you want both power and reliability get yourself a S8, S7, or RS7. The 4.0 twin turbo V8 will do mid-10-second quarters with a custom tune and a few added goodies. You can beat a Z06 while getting a message.
That man has my dream car. What is the paint on it? It's an amazing shade of purple!
Must be the rare Amethyst Metallic
I was gonna get one of these when I bought my e92 m3. Just didn't feel great at all. High revving. Cool sounding. But dull. And didn't feel sporty handling wise at all.
Boosted might be cool tho. And it looks sick in black.
I was going to buy an E92 M3 and ended up buying an RS5. They’re both great cars and amazing engines. For me I’m much happier not seeing another RS5 on a regular basis like I do M3’s. I can go months in LA without seeing an RS5 but I see E92 M3’s almost daily.
@@dogger37JC I'm in Massachusetts, a giant pothole surrounded by dunkin donuts and drug addicts. So you seldom see cool cars in the wild. (Unfortunately). California is different, g8x, gt3rs, f8x m, e9x m, lambo is normal traffic out there lol.
@@starfox_wr-45e93 i liked the rs5 for a cruiser/gt car. If I could afford those new rs6 wagons I'd get one a guy who owns a business in the office I work in has one, the abt version. Super sick
I love this car! Definitely had this poster on the wall!
what rear deck spoiler is that?
I have a 09 Audi A4 2.0t and its built to 650hp and i switched the transmission to a ZF8...wow what a difference it hauls ass
I keep going back to the beginning. Damn it sounds good as hell.
Can these be had manual?
Awesome car. Goals, for sure.
I have a b9 rs5 and an s3 8v.5 but i always think that i should’ve gotten this instead of the s3. Would’ve been the perfect pair of cars
i'll always stand by the statement that audi has one of the best sounding v8s
Not sure about Embarrass 😂 the equivalent M3 V8 is a beast of a car, and then if you supercharged it, they are nasty AF!! The tail happy easily controlled M3 is a lot of fun to drive and on the freeway both cars are going to dominate in their own way. Off the line? Give me the RS5 all day long!!
Those v8 m3s where stupid unreliable and have gotten much worse as they’ve aged, believe me I love the e series stuff from BMW but they’re temperamental man.
A self-grenading engine with shitty rod bearings, and now (newly discovered and emerging issue) main bearings is pretty embarrassing
BMW has made mechanics and bearing companies lots of money fixing their f#ck ups 😂
No problem with my v8 lads. But I do the maintenance and let it warm up before hammering it.
One of the most reliable V8 engines. The legendary 4.2!
I have a 2013 RS5 and a 2013 Audi S8. Both are built, fun and fast. The RS5 is fast but doesn't come close to the insane power of the S8.
Wicked ride, definitely embarrass an M3 or ten..
Should note in "these" days the 335i reigned supreme over M3 when it comes to performance, especially with aftermarket modifications😉
Miss racing my buddy's B7 S4 with a MP90 down the country road... good times.
This car is literally my ultimate dream car. Down to the specs and everything.
I love my B8.5 S5 I have the 3.0L I’d like to do this to a V8 and an add a supercharger! Around 10k for the supercharger, my biggest gripe with the 4.2L is that it’s slow as dog shit tbh stock super heavy to but what an amazing engine. Also doesn’t have very affordable mods to upgrade it just to have the same amount of torque
If we're talking speed, then no, this won't embarrass my f80 m3 lol. 600 whp from e85 and tune, and it's 500 pounds lighter. Plus, I didn't have to drop my entire engine out to get to that power😂 However, this thing will definitely embarrass it in the sound department. Just can't beat the sound of that v8
Stock v8 can go to 1000hp easy ;) in europe are 1300hp v8 s5's stock engine
@@SilvaDSD Keyword: “this supercharged rs5” This one is around 700 whp they said it in the video. Not some other maxed out rs5. If we wanna go that route, there are also 1000+hp f80s too so no need to get your fan girl panties in a bunch 👍
@@cokemachine62590thank god you said it
Why do you keep calling it NA though? It's clearly not anymore.
Because it is an NA platform… ??
i miss mine, nothing like the v8.
The best generation RS5!
I have owned one for a year now, I love it
Awesome video!!!
I will never get the mindset of "I have had a tiny child....I now must buy an SUV to transport their enormous bulk"
That exhaust makes me miss my ISF
that's a turbo charger not a supercharger? i love this car 😍
Removal of rear seats, half or full roll cage, some rear soundproofing...
Always liked the s4 with the same motor with a six speed I might add
back when audis looked boss
how much does this build cost
Siiick...the BBS CH look solid, should sell those Avante Garde wheels though....don't look good at all.
They are very nice cars.. I can't wait to turn my GT up.. I'm going to save for a Whipple and do it right.. But anyway those awd systems with DCT's are what really make the difference.. Yeah they make great power but the DCT's are like cheat codes these days.. Anyway save the manuals.. I am older so growing up as young kid's we had to have manuals if we wanted to be fast.. The auto's of the time were just so terrible we had to row our own gears..
MIGHT, lol. I dont have an M3 so no embarrassing here. I have a GT stang. Stick of course, 2019. Enough mods to be cool. Im not driving it for records but for my enjoyment!
very tastefully modded car - absolute dream
The rose gold wheels are 🔥
I drove this generation of RS5 few years ago.
It's certainly not a nimble car, and the weight is tough to escape. But for a GT coupe it does the job quite nicely, given the circumstances.
I like corners more than straights, so for me bmw always wins.
i always liked audis, but now that im gonna buy one i love em and im more into the car culture. who wouldve guessed.
0-60? QM?
why does bro drive with his head pulled back on the seat like the car was doing full throttles all the time lol
These are going to be highly sought after in a few years 😅
I've always loved these cars purely for the sounds it makes followed by the joy audi v8s bring me. Love the dual clutch cars as well as the manuals. Beautiful machines I will have one in the garage at some point 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
One of the best engines ever made
To borrow, not to own. So many drop engine repairs. Absolutely gorgeous car though. Wish I could put a b58 in my old one
RS6 compared to lets say an F80 M3.. RS6 has better interior, sound and straight line acceleration.. M3 destroys it in handling. Don't even compare it to a G80 M3 cause it will destroy it in every aspect except sound.
Makes me miss my old 2016 tuned s5 with a stick. Car was so much fun. Should have never stopped making the stick. Test drove the auto and it was boring.
I remember Matt Farrah calling these the darth vader cars and he wasn’t wrong tbh
What year is that car
13
Sounds so good 😊
