Tough to believe this RS5 in stock form made just as much power as the 2024 RS5... I'd much rather listen to and look at this one, but maybe that's just me.
The 2024 does make 130 more torque, though. Which is slightly under-reported by Audi for the B9 generation. But no doubt the NA V8 sounded a lot better.
B9's sound so whimpy. B8 still looks and sounds gorgeous! The greatest generation of cars died with the B8/E92 and W203's...
Also consider that the chassis used to be about one size smaller 20yrs ago for their lineup. The C5 RS6 had 450hp with the 4.2L twin turbo in a car that is the size of the new S4 today. IMO it's in the top 3 for the Audi engines.
@@SteremyJeele but just slighty, is the new rs5 competition plus the one with a very under-reported power, those are making 430 to the wheels
@@carlover9548 Yep, the comps are much faster than reported. Both HP and TQ are under reported. But all EA839-based Audis have about 30-40 more torque than advertised.
This generation RS5 will go on to be timeless and consistently desirable. Such a tame but all business look with the girth to back it up.
The E92 M3 as well since they’re the last of the NA V8’s most likely from both companies. RS5 being more rare than the M3 helps a lot too.
Would bet they end up being really expensive to maintain as parts shit out though. Like those V10 M5s.
@@FirstFamilyCharger Unfortunately, you're probably right. Special cars, even if not at first seen as such, end up being a labor of love for those with pockets fat enough to keep them mechanically sound.
@@FirstFamilyCharger The factory wave brake rotors on the RS5 are expensive. Fortunately there are more aftermarket alternatives now that cost less. Also doing the timing chains requires the engine to be removed. Carbon cleaning from direct injection.
its called b8.5
Am i the only one or this is the best rs5 gen ever made?
gou are the only one 😂
@@b58foreverhe's not. Not everyone needs 1000000 hp
Nope, this is it. Unlikely to be topped.
ditched by 2022 BMW i bought new for this. BMW was quicker, this is far more special
@@10essee10titans for sure
I sold my rs5, bought an A90 supra, to a 650whp 335i, to an OG m2, to an e46 m3 now. m3 is by far the most fun, but the rs5 is the only car I can't stop thinking about. Nothing sounds like this.
Interesting. Do you think you’d feel the same if you sold your E46?
@@SuchFinessse bmws are garbage, I promise.
try a w204 c63 next, You won't regret it
I can’t wait to see the longevity and reliability of this engine and transmission, now that it’s supercharged! I was following the JHM Supercharger thread when I had my B8.5 RS5. Now I’m considering getting another one as a daily.
Agreed
That's the true test of a good performance car. If it can last a full driving season or two without much more than basic maintenance, it's a win in my books.
@@RoadsUntraveledI’ve cleared 25k miles on my boosted 4.2l; standard service intervals… same blower.
engine - you're probably good. this thing is a fucking tank. transmission - possibly a weak spot. may need to be replaced, esp since it's going on 13 years old
The only generation of rs4/5 that you might consider buying over the m3 or c63
The new generation of rs6 over the new c63, e63, m3, m4 and m5. The m2 is gorgerous though
@@TheCHRISintheMIXdepends what you like I’d like to thrash the car about so the rs6 with that audisteer is useless. M3 wagon faster then all of them anyway
@@travisfs7526 Tell me you haven't driven a new audi, without telling me... Typical tiktok mechanic lol. Audisteer hasn't been a thing since 2018.
Also, the bmw is pretty much exacly as fast as the rs6, but it looks horrible
This audi 4.2 and the Maserati 2003-2012 Quattroporte 4.2 & 4.7 are my top three best sounding v8 engines to me personally.
Gotta throw in the v8 ftype. God I miss that car. Sold it for my 15 rs5 but I still think about it lol
@@kanob6440 i haven’t heard that na jaguar 5.0, only heard the supercharged version in a xj if i remember currently, its definitely a good sound v8 for sure
@@Aurora_v_cali the F-type has a different tone. I have a couple of Clips on my page. Not the most high def but it's something LOL
This generation rs5 has been a dream for me. the audi 5's are just so damn timeless with that body. I could wake up in 2045 and these will still look amazing.
Beautiful car 👍👍Bet his boss regrets letting that one go. 😂
That JHM kit is tough!
Embarrass a potent M3? We don’t think so bro. 😂
One of the best looking coupes produced in recent times, a timeless shape. RS5 is an absolute beauty out of the box, supercharged is just mental.
Sick RS5- Love our b9 S5 Cab.
*B5 S4- V6 2.7T biturbo : not a 4 cylinder- sorry to correct you. I had 2 of them and loved them!
he also called this car naturally aspirated and the info about the last naturally aspirated v8 was incorrect also
The S4 I drove recently was a 4 cylinder :) It's a swap! I've never driven a stock 2.7L.
Congrats!! My plan was to go Stage 3 like this, alas, it was baby time.
What are those paddle shifters? Those seem nice and tactile!
best car channel hands down
I love this car! Definitely had this poster on the wall!
I've always loved these cars purely for the sounds it makes followed by the joy audi v8s bring me. Love the dual clutch cars as well as the manuals. Beautiful machines I will have one in the garage at some point 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Awesome video!!!
I bought a B8 S5 for a daily, now I want the B8.5 RS5. Or maybe just an RS7 engine for my S5 haha
I keep going back to the beginning. Damn it sounds good as hell.
Gorgeous car! Definitely would like to see a dyno video to see what is putting down.
A car review with forward facing camera footage? Thank you! Nice to see how the car eats up the road.
The RS5 is definitely on my list of "cool cars to get" if I ever win the lotto. This one is super clean and looks like it runs like a top. Beautiful ride for sure.
Not a bad bit of kit! Lovin the traction.. ours has none LOL
when deciding between the rs5 or just the s5, i ended up going s5 since i already had another v8 car, and tuned it up to about 440-460hp. love the thing, but every now and again i see rs5 videos and get the urge to trade up, just love the sound of these and the e92 m3
The one hard thing with the s5 is the sound. I was in the exact same boat and I have a DP E40 s5 as my daily and a V8 mustang with a tremec as my weekend car. The s5 is a LOT easier to make power and didn't make sense to go rs5. The blower whine is awesome but the exhaust is horrible. Kinda want to find a rs5 now tho to change it up 😂
Love that body style RS5.
It's the best 8.5 gen 2013-2015 in north America. Unsure about the years across the pond, I know they had a longer run over there.
This car is literally my ultimate dream car. Down to the specs and everything.
Awesome car. Goals, for sure.
Do you want to test my S5 after this RS5 SC V8 ? but, my is not N/A !
i miss mine, nothing like the v8.
Dream car for me but I think I would rather have the manual. I have an S4 now but plan to get this generation RS5 within the next few years.
I owned one for a brief period of time and really didn't appreciate it at the time. Would like to have another one some day .
Someone absolutely butchered a ceramic coating job on that thing. High spots everywhere
very tastefully modded car - absolute dream
Hell yeh! This is exactly what its all about! That looks fun 😁
I get paddle shifting on circuit. But from a dig. Isn’t it pointless? Wouldn’t just letting the car shift itself avoid bouncing off the rev limiter? That bothers me. 😩
That man has my dream car. What is the paint on it? It's an amazing shade of purple!
I still preferred my B6 S4 with the 6 speed manual I much rather roll my gears and use my left leg too. I have long tube headers, Fast Intention cat back and hopefully soon Supercharger.
Was that James?!?!?!.......i thought this was Donut Media..😮😊
Siiick...the BBS CH look solid, should sell those Avante Garde wheels though....don't look good at all.
Definitely my favorite gen of RS5, and the best V8 Audi ever made. It's still a bit too nose-heavy (as are all Audi's, except the R8), but not NEARLY as understeer-y as all the recent RS Audi's. I walked away from a "Final Edition" TT-RS, almost entirely because of the terrible handling (and also because those newer 5cyl engines completely cut you off at like 6800rpm... lame). I really wish Audi had mounted the V8 in these RS5's a bit further back, it was still just way too far forward and it only got worse as they moved into the turbo era. BMW always manages to keep the M cars more front-mid engine, even with the S65 engine in the E92. I've got a '20 M2 CS, and even with the inline-6 longblock and twin turbos, that engine is still pushed so far towards the firewall that it sits behind the front wheels.
These things didn't handle nearly as well as the E9x M3's, but they were faster off the line for sure. They really were the final era of high-revving german V8's.
The AWD in these RS5's was also way more of a proper AWD system than the goofy Quattro systems in the latest RS3's and stuff, which may as well just be FWD (the rears really only kick in on launches and if it feels a traction loss, but tuning those Haldex systems to be more rear-biased was a nightmare, they just weren't built for it and always break if you try to do even a full-time 40/60 front/rear split).
I honestly kind of wish that Audi had done a RWD-only version of these RS5's, but then they stuck that excellent V8 in the R8 and all was basically forgiven. I still think the 1st gen V8 R8 *might* be more fun than the V10 and V10+. That V8 gets slept on, but it's such a damn good engine (and I generally don't even like V8's, I'm more of an inline-6 and Porsche flat-6 guy, but the E9x M3 and this gen of Audi RS cars will always have a place in my heart for being high-revving N/A beasts that were the last of their kind).
I just wanna know how much it weighs… as an S5 owner, it was already close to 200lbs heavier bone stock. I understand the RS5 for this gen is more like a muscle car S5 variant with all the optional extras, but if the added weight from the supercharger makes it too much more nose heavy, I’d probably stick to NA FBO only. Something I’ll consider when I inevitably pick one up in the coming years.
Very clean build, though, the CH-R’s are the trademark aftermarket wheel for this platform
Makes me miss my old 2016 tuned s5 with a stick. Car was so much fun. Should have never stopped making the stick. Test drove the auto and it was boring.
Sweet ride
...
No, you shouldn't have to shift. For launch control, you have to turn off traction control, put it in sport, make sure it's in automatic, not manual, (you cant launch in manual), hold the brake, press the gas until the rpms level out, then release the brake.
Launched.
The beast, what a beauty! :D
is this a sign? I was just looking at these RS5s to move into out of my C6 Vette. If anyone can reply, did the owner ever go over reliability since the install? I didn't catch it in the video and would be the main concern coming from a LS engine.
Its 100% less reliable and more expensive to modify
What's that digital gauge in the vent?
Would be a good compliment to my SC M3
I was gonna get one of these when I bought my e92 m3. Just didn't feel great at all. High revving. Cool sounding. But dull. And didn't feel sporty handling wise at all.
Boosted might be cool tho. And it looks sick in black.
Your M3 + a RS6 would make for a great two car garage imo as far as cars from this era and the two brands go.
I feel like you made the right decision too (but I've driven neither).
E92's sound just a little crisper with the DCT. Still looking for a good conditioned/unmolested E90 to add to my stable. Unfortunately it's getting harder and harder.
I was going to buy an E92 M3 and ended up buying an RS5. They’re both great cars and amazing engines. For me I’m much happier not seeing another RS5 on a regular basis like I do M3’s. I can go months in LA without seeing an RS5 but I see E92 M3’s almost daily.
@@dogger37JC I'm in Massachusetts, a giant pothole surrounded by dunkin donuts and drug addicts. So you seldom see cool cars in the wild. (Unfortunately). California is different, g8x, gt3rs, f8x m, e9x m, lambo is normal traffic out there lol.
@@starfox_wr-45e93 i liked the rs5 for a cruiser/gt car. If I could afford those new rs6 wagons I'd get one a guy who owns a business in the office I work in has one, the abt version. Super sick
why does bro drive with his head pulled back on the seat like the car was doing full throttles all the time lol
Supercharged V8 love it!!!!
Time to get a driver upgrade. Dude is complaining about having to shift lol.
The best generation RS5!
One of the best engines ever made
To borrow, not to own. So many drop engine repairs. Absolutely gorgeous car though. Wish I could put a b58 in my old one
MIGHT, lol. I dont have an M3 so no embarrassing here. I have a GT stang. Stick of course, 2019. Enough mods to be cool. Im not driving it for records but for my enjoyment!
I remember Matt Farrah calling these the darth vader cars and he wasn’t wrong tbh
B5 S4... Biturbo V6 unless I'm mistaken
Nice!!!
now lemme supercharge my M3 and see you try
Sold my RS5 I was getting 7MPG and I can't stop regretting that decision haha
You can test drive one of my rs5, got stage 3 and shoot flames 🔥 (much louder)
Sad that they dont handle 😢
Weight is the achilles heel no doubt... but it's night and day over Audis I've driven from 10 years previous.
the crackles are cringeworthy. hoping it holds up for the owner. sounds like the clutches are slipping.

Bro this sounds like an LS if it were DOHC. There’s no comparison between this and S65 with a carbon airbox.
Bad ass
Still naturally aspirated sound better.
I still have no clue why they put four doors on the newer S5s.
As soon as he said where the supercharger is located he lost me. Cars damn near perfect though. Makes me want to sale my b9 and get one.
Weren’t the R8’s NA V8’s as well? Aside from the V10 of course.
Yeah , 'same' 4.2L V8
@@jefflandquistBoth are 4.2 V8’s but the R8 is from the last generation V8 RS4. The RS5 V8 is newer generation based off of the V10.
@@dogger37JC ahhh. I didn’t know that. Pretty cool. Would be sweet to own one, that’s for sure.
Yup! We talked about the R8 in the video. Both the V8 R8 and RS5 were built until 2015, however the RS5 had the more powerful and updated version of the 4.2L V8. It was the latest and greatest of that engine.
Makes me want to hit the throttle!
Which m3 ?
Lol.. Even with all the mods I would doubt it takes an M3 G80 or the M4 G8x
RS5 is a whole class above the M3, you mean the M5... oh wait.
yup thats it. selling my 2014 A5.
We all know what is going to happen on the first corner !
B5s4 =2.7tt v6 👍
Edit-i retracr my statement after watching the other video 😂
Not sure about Embarrass 😂 the equivalent M3 V8 is a beast of a car, and then if you supercharged it, they are nasty AF!! The tail happy easily controlled M3 is a lot of fun to drive and on the freeway both cars are going to dominate in their own way. Off the line? Give me the RS5 all day long!!
Those v8 m3s where stupid unreliable and have gotten much worse as they’ve aged, believe me I love the e series stuff from BMW but they’re temperamental man.
@mogulme6190 I've had a fair sure of E90's and E92's (335is, few LCI 335's, etc etc). Once you've done the rod bearings and throttle actuators they're actually pretty reliable even when driven the way they were designed for. I've an F90 m5c now and in today's age BMW makes pretty reliable and stout cars.
A self-grenading engine with shitty rod bearings, and now (newly discovered and emerging issue) main bearings is pretty embarrassing
BMW has made mechanics and bearing companies lots of money fixing their f#ck ups 😂
No problem with my v8 lads. But I do the maintenance and let it warm up before hammering it.
I like corners more than straights, so for me bmw always wins.
What year is that car
13
B5 s4 with a what 4cyl it’s a v6 twin turbo bruv
Lmao 🤣 then let me go get the m5 and gap it
If you want NA buy and keep NA. These motors and Trans are very expensive, Drive it as built.
wish german cars didnt have such ridiculous maint costs otherwise id totally pick up an older S5 and tune it
drining a M3 is embarrassment by itself
I'll stick with the M3 simply because of the 6 speed.
And so might a civic type r 😅
It can try
Probably not but his big brother M5 will
If we're talking speed, then no, this won't embarrass my f80 m3 lol. 600 whp from e85 and tune, and it's 500 pounds lighter. Plus, I didn't have to drop my entire engine out to get to that power😂 However, this thing will definitely embarrass it in the sound department. Just can't beat the sound of that v8
Stock v8 can go to 1000hp easy ;) in europe are 1300hp v8 s5's stock engine
@@SilvaDSD Keyword: “this supercharged rs5” This one is around 700 whp they said it in the video. Not some other maxed out rs5. If we wanna go that route, there are also 1000+hp f80s too so no need to get your fan girl panties in a bunch 👍
@@cokemachine62590thank god you said it
“Might”
;)
Now put it on the Nordschleife.
Dont love the JDM Supercharger. The hoses being rubber and seems cheap build IMO and not really seeing you address the issues you will run into around the Transmission, yes the motor will support the added intake but the trans expecially launched will fail. Keep it stock and see the value go up. adding all this makes no sense.
G80 M3 already running low 8s 1/4 mile, something this specific audi dreams of nightly 😂
fix that rear badge yikes
Wasn't that V8 bad enough already? Now it's a 2000miles time bomb
Nope, it’s only bad when you buy a neglected unknown service clapped car. Now you look stupid talking out your ass without knowing what you’re talking about lol.
RS6 compared to lets say an F80 M3.. RS6 has better interior, sound and straight line acceleration.. M3 destroys it in handling. Don't even compare it to a G80 M3 cause it will destroy it in every aspect except sound.
I don’t know what the skinny white kid was talking about. This car was supercharged, so it’s no an NA V8, and they had the R8’s out for years with a V8 for years after they stopped stuffing the V8 in the S5.
Skinny white kid here 👋 Both the V8 R8 and RS5 were built until the same year (2015), however this generation RS5 had the more powerful and updated version of the 4.2L V8.
S5 got rid of the V8 before the RS5 did :D
No. It won't.
