    I just purchased the 55" none glass top variant of the Tresanti standing desk from Costco on an impulse buy as I wanted a standing desk and it has a good rating and was on sale. I am dealing with the issues everyone else is describing such as the placement of the height controls and the placement of the changing pad which neither are ideal but the issue that is causing major concern is the thickness of the desk itself. Previously I was using a folding table while researching different desks and had begun to mount things on the sides of my desk such as my monitor, speakers, and boom arm. Because of how thick the desk is, I can't use any of the mounts because the C-clamp won't fit over the lip of the very thick desk. I wasn't thinking about this and will probably require that I return the desk for something thinner.

    • @romyromes
      @romyromes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment James. I totally agree with you. Honestly, for most people, the desk is a great deal. But if you want to mount things with c-clamps it’s a bit limiting.

      I had this same desk and had a lot of the same concerns. I disliked where the controls were located. I’d regularly bump them while gaming. It was very frustrating to have the desk move unexpectedly while gaming. It was also extremely heavy to move. I’m 5’3” and the desk just didn’t go low enough for me. I ended up selling it. It’s a nice desk, but just didn’t work long term for me.

  • @m3rdpwr
    @m3rdpwr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This is the position I am in. I am also short at 5 ft 8. I have been looking at the uplift desk. However to get it to go lower than the usual desks, you need to go with the commercial frame. So I was looking at the C commercial frame, and the crossbar is annoying in that you can't really slide a short file cabinet underneath without it sticking out. That is extremely annoying. I asked uplift why they did this, the employee said their manager doesn't use the crossbar on theirs. I asked if that was a supportive configuration. He came back and said we always recommend you use the crossbar. So I said to him why would you even recommend me not using it if you recommend it. It's very frustrating because I want a desk without the crossbar that can go as low as 24in with the top on

    Great points, I had the Tresanti standing desk as well. The all-black version with a rounded front. They put a wireless charging pad in front of the controls at the top like yours. Lost a lot of space. Went with a MotionWise manager desk, from Costco. Decent price, great sized desk. Felt like buying from Costco was the best spot.

    I don't think most ppl think about the detail. I was looking for z stand up desk and they talk zbout the inches, but the person modeling the desk, you never know how tall they are. And even when your in the store trying a desk/chair out, it being comfortable for 2 mins is different for something being comfortable for 8+ hours of use

    God, fantastic video man, really great. Very good points. I've been thinking about the same things you addressed as I look into getting my first standing desk here, but it's great to have someone with some experience confirm what I could only guess at. I can only add that having a desk with a crossbar right now myself, I can confirm that it's a non-issue if it's positioned in the frame in a thoughtful manner - a nice addition at 1.5 feet above the ground and mounted towards the back of the desk - but having enough clearance is key. Thanks for making this video for everyone.

    • @romyromes

    There are charts out there that offer guidance on the maximum height your desk top should be based on your height. However, I've seen quite a bit of variation in the these numbers (e.g., some will say that a 29" desk height is only appropriate if you are 6'5 and other charts that say that 29" will work for anyone that is 6" tall. Obviously the height of your chair will come into play but the variation in these charts is significant. Also I should note that some of the standing desk companies publish these charts and so the numbers may not be trustworthy as some of these vendors produce standing desk that go much lower than what most other manufacturers standing desk go and so there is an incentive for these manufacturers to skew the data in such a way that their desk meet these numbers.
    So I would suggest you find an "un-bias" organization for these charts.

  • @BewareTheLilyOfTheValley

    Hm, sure you gave the right measurement of the desk? You keep saying it's about 29 inches for the length, but your tape measure showed 47 inches, lol. I currently have a cheapo desk from Walmart that is 36 inches long and I know for sure that your desk is way longer 😅.
    But you raised some good points here and have me rethinking the order I just put in for a Fezibo desk (ordered from their website). I got their S2 frame, which holds about 170 lbs, but the height starts at about 27 inches and I too am 5'7. Their S4 frame actually goes down to 23 inches, though. I don't have money for an Uplift desk, but I think I can squeeze the extra $130 to change to the S4, just to be on the safe side. I'm eventually going to get a new chair as well, as my current one that proclaimed to be for "big and tall" people, is not, lol. The base of the arm rests have edges that dig into my thighs and it has zero lumbar support. You lied to me, Serta! 😂
    Let me go ahead and cancel that desk order now and place the new one...
    Edit: And now thanks to you, I've gone ahead and upgraded the frame. It seems the frame doesn't add more stabilizing features at the higher price point, though, which is a bummer. Also, the frame can ONLY go down to 23 inches with their S4 version. If you want anti-collision, I'd have to go with S3, but then the frame won't go low enough. But, the height was more important for me than the collision feature, so I'm still happy I changed the order. And I was able to reuse the discount code from the first order, giving me a $16 discount, lol.

    I have the similar desk. Mine is curvy desktop. That is another thing to consider. The depth of the desk will become like 21-22” at the center of curve and there won’t be any support for my hands while typing. Regarding the footrest What i did is, I pulled desk a bit forward and place a a feet level Ikea step and resting my leg on it 😅. Also where did you get the 3 storage drawers table? I don’t have anything next to my table and it is very small and crowded desk. If someone getting ing this desk, they mist have to keep some storage shelves next to it. Hey! I never personally had problems but I can't guarantee *you* won't. The right thing to do would be to add some kind of wood/non-glass layer ontop of the glass to protect it from shattering. Lowest point was too high for me as well, I'm also 5'7" but I suppose it depends more on torso height, as I have longs legs but short torso. I was having upper back problems because shoulders were hunched. Unfortunately I didn't have an adjustable chair because I tried to save money by getting a simpler chair... which is a fine chair, comfortable and my feet touch the ground.
    Eventually the desk broke after a year, kept throwing errors and will only go up. I tried all the online suggestions to fix, customer service number was dead, and Costco won't take it back.

    I am short
    Nothing is built for me other than a children's desk
    Not only that! But, chairs also aren't buil for someone of my height. I am 5ft flat ...although last time they told me I was 5ft1😭😭
    I have disks pressing on nerves in my lower back and so I realized I can't use a computer chair, they aren't worth it for me no matter ergonomic they be because they aren't for short people. And so, to ikea I went , I basically got a foldable tall chair that had a child sized seat and decent back ....rest thing. Best thing I've bought since I usually only half sat on things all my life to be able to reach the floor. I bought this desk out of severe pain and desperation to quickly finish my school work and it does the job for me. The stabilizer thing works great for me since it works as a foot rest for the height of my chair

      Potentially. My 27 inch Cinema Display is heavier than most 34 inch monitors. That said, you’ll be looking at a rather wide monitor on this desk, so not only will it look huge, but you might not have enough seat-to-monitor depth to feel comfortable. This is all theory tho…

      A clamp might shatter the glass? The steel frame is strong enough to drill a bolt on instead of a clamp? If you do, might slide 6 or 10 playing cards between the glass and frame. You can cut the cards to make it look nice.

    It's funny, I never watched this video before this but earlier in the year there was craze for standing desks. I told them not to buy it because it's pretty much a gimmick. There are uses for the standing desk but very few for the general home office work. You burn a negligible amount of calories when standing, and if you needed to stop sitting, a brisk walk is much better than just standing. You should be taking brisk breaks away from the computer anyways, and standing is not a replacement for this. I've asked over 5 people about how they feel about their standing desk and how much they use it, every single one of them don't use it at all.

    Man another TH-cam or that just can’t get to the point as to drag everything out and waste time I wish they would be more considerate of other people time and getting to the point you don’t need to drag on a 30 minute story when you can do the segment in 10 minutes just get to the point no one cares about anything else I just see it time and time again I don’t understand

    Such a great video. Keep up doing reviews as some of us need some in-depth info before buying some stuff. Great job. ❤️❤️
