I do repaints. I used Gallery for the first time about a month ago refinishing cabinets. I loved it, the dry time and the hardness is also what stood out to me and the availability makes it way more convenient than other high end cabinet paints. I was worried about how well it hung and whether it would run on me, didn't have much of a problem with that once I got the hang of it. It also has a pretty low odor which is a plus when spraying in a home. I spray my doors laying down and use the red bondo glazing to fill in imperfections after primer. A couple things I found was that two coats often didn't hide the red bondo and I had to hit several of the doors with a third. Also, putting it on too thick causes it to crackle, it sands out and disappears with another coat though. I used an airless spray with a .310 FF tip, but may try a .308 next time. Overall I loved it and will likely be using it as my cabinet paint unless something better comes along.
I'd love to see you compare it to BM Command. AFAIK Gallery is like $143/gal list (plus the crosslinker if desired). That's a freaking lot for a 1k product. I guess people really like wb cleanup. I think Command is like $75-90/gal.
Yeah I've been a painter for 15 years...do about 7-10 cab jobs a years and usually only use emerald. I started a set of cabs on Monday and decided to use GS, noticed it was pretty thin. Too see you soup it up even more was pretty insane 😂 like woah.... then low and behold you had runs... Then your gun was spitting i think because you didnt clean it good enough last time idk.... As far as primer, i use pigmented shellac or If i were you. Maybe a sanding sealer.. That kilz primer is garbageee
I used the gallery series and had awesome results. I recently tried the emerald line bc it was recommended a bunch here on your tube and it wasn’t nearly as nice as gallery. Gallery dried faster which let me spray way more coats in a day. I could flip doors over and spray without any paint pulling off. Would never use emerald again.
Thank you for making this video! I've heard so little real world info and even less from SW about the Gallery Series. It sounds like for my DIY level of experience the gallery series may dry too quick and cause headaches for those with slow workflow like me. Obviously the opposite end of the spectrum from your production scenario.
Excellent video. Very informative and hands-on. Just wondering if you use a mask or respirator and would you recommend using one to new HVLP painters. Thanks
@@aaronjackson2780 I use Famowood Interior/Exterior Latex Natural Wood filler as it is very hard when it dries. Almost like Bondo. Its sold at Menards. I also use Bondo on high end projects. but you have to know what you are doing.
Just used anchors aweigh (navy blue) emerald urethane on an exterior door and boy am I disappointed! The good; it sprayed nice right out of can but ended up thinning less than 5% for a better spray, leveled out great. The bad after letting dry for two days it scratches really easy and is difficult to clean. I wanted to wipe some dirt off dead bolt where my finger nail ever so slightly ran across door leaving a scratch. There were some handprints on door after install so wanted to clean so saturated a paper towel with water and it left smug marks where i lightly wiped. My normal advance go to would never do this and what a disappointment!
@@LoganShelton-rh3lp 2 days should be more than enough for the paint to not leave a mark when a fingernail lightly runs across it (I cannot stress how lightly this fingernail touched the paint) nor leave a mark when lightly wiped with a water-soaked paper towel. If not, the paint can should have some form of note stating that you need to give it a week to cure before touching.
According to a spec sheet i got from SW V.O.C. (less exempt solvents) 178/litre, 1.48 lbs. per gallon. I was told it had more than double the VOC than the Emerald Urethane.
Because a lot of people have turbine units or compressors that cannot spray paint that is unthinned. Without the proper amount of PSI + Airflow at the gun, the thicker paints (800 CtS+) will spray some bolders, resulting in orange peel. Even the Fuji Q5 Platinum will need 10% for thinning at least. The Semi Pro-2 will require you to thin down to 100-150 CtS for EU, and that's like 40% since the EU starts at like 800 CtS. Without thinning, many smaller compressors or turbine units won't be able to atomize the thicker paints properly.
I have an hvlp I've used EU with a 2.5mm tip that I don't have to thin as much. Also have a 1.4 and 2.0mm I have not sprayed with. Do you think the 1.4mm would do good with the gallery?
Hello, have you sprayed the gallery with an airless system like a Graco Magnum X5 with a 310 LL FP? Or should we stick to our Fuji HVLP? We’re just having such orange peeling with our HVLP
It’s great with airless FFLP tips. Have used it with GX19 and Quickshot. Almost as good as Centurion finishes. It’s WAY smoother than Emerald Urethane. Every EU I’ve used has a gritty texture. Not the case with Gallery. 308 tip works nice.
turn pressure down to a point that you're getting tails again in the fflp tip. i've sprayed it in a few kitchens now, you can easily over pressurize it still and most people do use their airless the wrong way in the sense they turn the pressure all the way up and maybe sometimes back it down a little. you're supposed to turn it down until it has tails then ever so slightly more pressure and thats it. you fundamentally spray differently with this paint in an airless setup.

I have to agree with you in that I don't think I get the same coverage with the Gallery over the Emerald

you shouldn't thin those paints, you may not see it, but youre compromising its durability.

Always spray test your gun on paper or a piece of wood first and always use grain filler on raw wood then sand, then prime. wood filler is $8
What filler do you use? Looking for something better than I use now

How is the sheen comparable between the two? Is the satin sheen of EU close to the Gallery sheen 20?
Hi nice video!! What are these cabinets for? Kitchen?
Great video
How much does a gallon of gallery cost?
@SamWanamaker1 depends but in most cases over $100
Thanks!
What I really want to know is which one is more durable in the long term
They are both still in service and the bigger one has started to grow on me even though I STILL prefer the k4.
Thanks so mush for the video. Wondering if gallery series is thicker/more viscous than Emerald?
No it's thinner

Deep and ultra deep colors scratch easy. Also takes a week to start getting hard

Question: what do you think the Gallery series with for the HVLP? Water?
How is the VOC on the Gallery paint?
Thanks
John
About the same as Emerald. Hardly noticeable. It does smell distinctly different from emerald though.

water CAN be applied for spray applictions but isnt necessary
how come people add water to their paint they spray? I have yet to do it.

It's probably too small. I'm using a 1.8 now unthinned.
1.4 will work I use 1.4 #3 from Greco
Graco
Has anyone brush and rolled Gallery ?
There is a painter that did that very thing on TH-cam

It's like the hardener in 2k
I sent you the video
Sw bought the company that made what is now gallery. You can use these crosslinker
