I found out a way to uninstall the campaign. Without deleting the whole game. Load the game, while on main screen where u can choose between campaign, multiplayer, warzone, special ops...go over to campaign. Click the square button and click on whichever thing u want to uninstall. That way your not deleting the whole game. Helped me free up space for this new 1.24 version update season 5

Think of the flash drive as a PS2 memory card. When your PS4 dies all your 100+ hour game data is saved on your flash drive. USB port 3.0 is the model port for the PS4. 3.0 = faster downloads 2.0 = slower downloads

This method is only for app data. For some reason (probably file size) PlayStation doesn't allow for apps to be installed on temporary storage devices.
You're right if you want to clear up larger amounts of space you are going to want to move entire applications. I used a thumbdrive for this tutorial because at the time i didn't have an external hard drive. This tutorial is meant for clearing up smaller amounts of space.
