I love these videos. As an American that has dreams of visiting Shropshire, these videos provide a wonderful firsthand look into such a fantastic area.
I went to Meole Brace primary school when I was I think 5 6 or 7 60 years ago,so long ago forget. I use to live in Cannonvale, a cul de sac. off Roman Road.Shropshire is a beautiful county
Hi Richard - this is what I love about putting up the videos - someone has always been there and knows a lot more about the place than me! Thanks for telling me! :)
I used to live in Meole Village. Next road along from where you finished the video. To clear it up. There's Meole Village and Meole Estate. It's all Meole Brace. I left Shrewsbury 16 years ago to join the Navy. I now live in Plymouth. It would be awesome if you did a few videos of Plymouth. So much history here you'd be filming for weeks! Anyway, great video. Nice to see my old haunts. Oh yeah, I too got quite smashed in that tree. I think most Meole youths have!
Hello Mr. Vobes, have you explored Castlefields? These would have been the fields surrounding the castle and then the canal which I know you have already covered. There is a fascinating church tucked away there too! It looms over the other buildings. :-) Hope you're well during this pandemic.
Reason I know is that I work nights at Sainsburys across the road..get a lift home 5 morning's but Sunday morning I get to walk home so go through old moele village.. Some lovely old houses.. never been to the church though
The common people say Shrewsbury and the better class say Shrowsbury as I was taught in the 60's.......LOL P.S.If you look at the old Saxon spelling, the correct modern pronunciation is in fact Shrowsbury and this is not a posh inflection.
@@zen-xb7xq okay let me settle this for the thousanth time... hahaha... the original spelling is shreufbury (c1568) - roughly translating to "bog fort"... and rather interestingly enough... pronounced an awful lot like "SHREWsbury".... it was changed several times, in the span between 1600s -> 1900s updating with the times, to ShrowesBvry, Shrowes Burye, (salop) and many more, finally landing on Shrewsbury - and thus the pronunciation actually fell back to how it was ORIGINALLY... back in the 1500s - it is now, officially, and will continue to be, SHREWSbury if you wish to pronounce it "as it was intended" - then "shreufbury" is the original, shrowsbury is quite literally... neither here nor there... and i do indeed judge those who use it :p all in good humor

I must explore of that area - haven't been to Shrewsbury for a while actually.
You certainly remember a lot of facts about the different locations you go to. Do you make notes and have a look at them before you go on your walks?
Oh I look them up and then try to remember them - I'm not very good at either!
Thats my old school... 😀
ah look my old primary school
typical arriva bus driver 😂

Thank you very much
This place was mentioned in Brother Cadfael wasn't it?
Cheers
Dave
cogidubnus1953 Yes I think you are right.
I went to that school
This isn't moele brace it's actual old moele village
The new stuff is moele brace...but the old stuff is the original village
Oh right - thanks very much for the correction.

Queen Edith was Harold ll sister. Poor Harold, the best king we never had. Harold was a true Englishman and the last of the Saxon kings.
I must mug up on my King and Queens.
Are....
Are?
I got fairly smashed in that big house
Did you indeed!
It’s Shrewsbury not shrowsbury
When you say 'It's' I assume you mean that is how you pronounce the town's name? :) Thanks for watching.
Richard Vobes it’s how everyone is Shrewsbury says Shrewsbury and that it how it is spelt.
