  • @AdmSkyWalker
    @AdmSkyWalker 5 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    I don't think the amount of power in the battery pack is the problem. When I started my research for my first Tesla I had a apartment garage that had no power save for the light bulb. The only way to charge while in the garage would be to plug into the bulb socket using a plug adapter. Problem is, those adapters are only 2 prongs because light sockets do not have a grounding connection. While researching the mobile charger manual, I discovered that the charger will always give a red light if it does not detect a ground connection. That means if you are plugged into a three prong and the ground connection does connect to anything, it will always be red.
    Yes, the battery pack has the ground prong but it does not have an actual ground wire. The only way a battery pack like that could work would be if it allowed for a grounding wire to be connected to the pack and you connect said grounding wire to a grounding pole. A ground pole is basically a metal rod that is staked in the ground. Large generators come with copper rods to act as the grounding rod. A metal fence post might work as a grounding rod depending on how deep it goes.

    some possible solutions that others have mentioned in the comments:::
    1. battery sharing between two electric vehicles
    2. gas generator which could power an electric vehicle,
    3. small emergency/secondary battery with range of about 10-15miles, (like old motorcycle use to have a secondary tank/reserve for a few miles.)
    4. ultra capacitor 'battery'
    5. solar panels on the roof/hood/trunk.. (I am sure charge from panels that day could have gotten him 0.4 miles to the charge station.)

      Richard Roberson : car sharing companies use it for example. here are a couple of car sharing companies, which use also electric cars, you have an app, search for cars in your area, rent one, go where you wanna go and then just park it and leave it. you pay by km driven or by time. you get free minutes/km for filling up gas or pluging in charge stations. sometimes these cars run out of battery and then the charging bike is ordered...

    Even if it did work, it would have taken an hour or more to bring in 4 miles of range from that thing. I wonder if a mobile super charger truck would work? Just something like a tow truck with several batteries on the back and fast charging ports. Just drive up, plug in the car for 10 mins or so, and then have enough range to get to the charging location.

    The Tesla UMC requires a ground connection. The Anker PowerHouse doesn't have a ground pin at all. It's just a plastic hole. That causes the charging error.
    Also, try using a gas powered portable generator. Those don't have a connection to ground, but because they have a proper ground pin, you can use a generator with a neutral bridged to ground, or use an adapter for charging Teslas with generators.

      Most likely the current. It only delivers a little over 1 amp of current. That's very little amps. Some gaming laptops need more power than that. Hardly enough for an EV.

  • @ementormike
    @ementormike 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Two possible solutions: 1) get a gas generator and have filled with gas and put in frunk...generator provides steady watts/amps and should work to charge battery in car. 2) Get a solar generator; like a Inergy Kodiak and that unit is small and has a 90 amp lithium ion battery inside and just plug in to your house, along with your car; before you leave...will easily fit in frunk and is just 20lbs and should extend your range so you can get to the next charging station, if your car runs out. This presumes that you are not a great distance away and you ran out of power just a few miles away and that you were not totally irresponsible and ignored the cars warnings and routing info.; that says(based on your route and the remaining range in the battery), which is the next supercharger, to go to.

    If you look at the Package (also shown in this video) you can see that it can deliver up to 1.09 Amps at 110V AC
    So if the tesla pulls 10 Amps at 110V AC the batterypack just shuts off.
    Aditionally when such a batterypack is loaded with it's maximum load, half of the power gets lost through the internel resistance of the battery. So if you somehow manage to charge the Tesla at just 1 Amp you could aditionally cut the batteries capacity in half to figure out, how much the tesla will get.
    If you really want a solution I would recomment a traditional petrol powered generator.
    This thing can deliver enough energy and you would also solve the problem of always needing to make sure that the battery is fully charged in case of an emergancy. You just need to get gas at the nearest gas station.

    How about buying a 2000W inverter, and keeping that in the car. In the event you need just one mile or so, you can hook the inverter to the 12V lead-acid battery, and charge the big lithium battery at 12A and 120V for about 10 minutes. That will give you about one mile of range.
