I’m glad that people are actually doing things that this pickup truck was built to do, like camping, off-roading and hill climbing. Nice to see a company taking a different approach to exhibiting their trucks.
This was a solid video. I would have like to have seen the battery range at different points of the video and how that was holding up on the trip. You guys started with 91% just would have liked seeing how many miles you guys went and how much battery was used.
@@jerrygaber6150 The range will be greatly affected by that kind of off road driving. I'm guessing 1/3 the usual range would be quite optimistic off-road but that's usually only a third of your driving on a typical trip. So you could probably do a 150 mile trip with 50 miles of off road. That's still pretty good and enough for most excursions.
The big thing about Rivian for repairs is that they have a several billion dollar deal with Amazon because rivian is producing electric vans for amazon so it would be easier to repair.
Nothing about repairing the Rivian truck would be much like repairing the Amazon delivery truck. And Amazon vans will get first dibs. So it remains to be seen hoe service will be. That being said EVs don't give problems like gas ICE vehicles. This video shows how durable they are. Repairs will be few and far between unless they have a design flaw and I suspect that isn't going to happen. They spent a lot of time building a totally new build from the ground up.. Rivian is a real truck and it will sell well.

Rivian was blowing smoke with the tank turn talk. Not a good thing but it's going to be all about getting production numbers that are more than a few thousand. And Rivian is under the need for supplying Amazon while doing it. Amazon will be demanding their trucks FIRST you can bet on that.

Another solid review. As a pickup truck fan, this is everything I could hope for and then some. The more i've watched these reviews, I believe this is ground breaking and like the first iphone in a blackberry world for both pickups and 4X4's. It won't all change overnight but this performance changes the game for good. Battery range and charging options will both improve, and the industry will hopefully never need gas nor diesel again.
Good exposé of it's capabilities. I know the price is competitive with higher end gas trucks but 67k is still a big chunk of change. The dollar is so devalued, I still remember 1990s under 20k F150s loaded.

Now I'm Thorn, cause I really was looking forward to the Ford F-150 Lightening. Now I don't know, this Rivian is just as Great. I just watched both you and Zack Videos back to back. I didn't even know you two were that Closed. Small World, D@mn you Two.
Both are sold out for a couple of years! They are only going to make something like 15,000 F-150's in 2022 and 30,00 in 23, 55,000 in 24. By 2025, the next generation of electric F-150 will come out of a plant in Tennessee, and probably something like 5,000 a week! There are two plants making the gas F-150, at 5,000 a week from each plant. There are 150,000+ reservations for the electric F-150, so it will take past 2025 to meet all that demand.
The only problem is it may have a high towing capacity but they payload capacity isn’t very high so I’m many cases you wouldn’t actually be able to tow something that heavy. But, this isn’t really a full size truck so probably not a concern for most people but it is something to consider when seeing the towing capacity
Fair comment but this truck is definitely for your middle class mom to take the kids to school and do the shopping in. Kind of like the iPhone of the automotive world.
I like the passthru tunnel, but I don't like the front trunk as much as the Lightning. I'd probably go with a Lightning over this, but that's partly cause I could in theory afford a Lightning.
Right? It's one genius feature imo for the lightning and one which I'd bet many contractors will like. Makes carrying stuff then unloading it super easy. Right at the average persons waist height to. Well average height men anyways. 😁 I really liked the lights and power outlets for the lightning frunk to. So much practicality there.
If price concerns you, you may want to wait till later in 2022. Rivian has mentioned about a smaller battery pack (105 kwh) and a dual-motor trim of the Rivian. Both these combined might fall into the price range category you're more comfortable with. I'm not trying to persuade you to Rivian and away from Ford exclusively, just pointing out that 2022 is going to have a LOT of announcements and/or releases of other options regarding new companies or new products from familiar companies.

Is there going to be some sort of software function that locks the tire rotations 1:1 to simulate a locker? Next thing, please for the love of god. hope those door latches can handle real snow and ice (new england). Every one i know with the tesla gets locked out in the winter here. Can't wait to use this thing in the woods for camping.
I spotted that slippage as well. I assumed the software would prevent this from happening. It was strange to them have to change to a different line to get through that. Pretty sure a rear locker on a normal drive train would have allowed crawling through that easily. I really don't understand why the motor at the wheel that had traction didn't do it's job as well as I expected. My other concern is the min 20" wheels - I feel like they are still too large for good offroad capability - not enough leeway for airing down as much as you'd like - maybe that contributed to the slippage in that shot?
@@adrianbjones big head scratch on the 20" rim size myself. guess i'll be popping tires too. Even my buddy with a 2021 Defender is down to an 18" rim. There's just no meat on the tires at 20". I'm a fan of 18", have never had a single issue on my wrangler rock crawling, deep snow, sand air-downs, deep mudding at that size.

But it still also looks like the torque vectoring needs improving. And it's also a shame about the complete lack of articulation - that also seems to be a real issue with this. @@adrianbjones the articulation (or lack there of) comes down to the air suspension. I've seen its issues on the Defender. You can raise it up to max ride height (good for ground clearance), but something happens where it gets extremely stiff, I think you run out of rebound and all the air pressure to keep it sky high prevents soft compression. hoping for some over the air updates for better torque vectoring. Overall, as an out of the box off-roader is still seems capable. But for the price point, a jeep wrangler or 4runner might put it to shame. I imagine 80% of the owners of this truck won't do more than go on sand beaches, a dirt road, or occasional snow drives.
I thought about this too, because there are 4 motors, it's not like you are losing power really if you spin the extra wheel but it certainly doesn't help. I'm also curious. I wonder if there are software improvements to be made or if they simply forgot to "lock"it
Tom over at inside evs showed his trip for on road driving very aggressively averaged right at 2.4miles per kwh. He said driving on flat surfaces at 75+returned near 3miles per kwh and when off road the truck got right around 2miles per kwh average in his testing. 👍🏻
@@Bushguyrocks they have portable batteries now you can carry with you like a gas can that can give you 10-25+miles of range in a pinch. Already using them for roadside assistance purposes. Since per aaa the number one roadside assistance roll out here in the U.S. is for a stranded motorist who ran out of gas. 😀 I don't expect evs to be to much different as we continue to climb the s curve adoption rate.
Not by over 20+year's right? 😁 The 1997 ev version of tjr s10 and 1998 Ford ev ranger called. Still though congrats to rj and his team. Any ev sold is one less ice being sold. And pickup trucks are actually driven the most miles in the U.S. annually. So something which gets the equivalent like this truck does. To over 70+mpg is making a difference imo.
I wouldn’t mind the range if the accessories suite came with an extra battery pack that fits in that side compartment just like the stove… all in all super excited about this truck. Hats off to the Rivian team. Just dripping Awesomeness!!!!
The plant for Rivian is about 35 miles from me. I know many people who have gone to work there. The rivian guy you posted a picture of is wearing a hat to the bicycle shop where I bought my mountain bike. So cool to see.

When I look for a vehicle I always calculate how many bodies i can stick in the trunk. That storage tunnel is an added bonus.

I wouldn’t mind the range if the accessories suite came with an extra battery pack that fits in that side compartment just like the stove… all in all super excited about this truck. Hats off to the Rivian team. Just dripping Awesomeness!!!!
The plant for Rivian is about 35 miles from me. I know many people who have gone to work there. The rivian guy you posted a picture of is wearing a hat to the bicycle shop where I bought my mountain bike. So cool to see.

With that passthrough to the hidden tunnel is an awesome place to keep a cooler for easy access for rear passengers to reach their beer.
This truck weighs so much blowing out sidewalks on tires off-road might be more of a problem? Very nice ride.
