So far I'm extremely happy with my DF64 Gen 2. I've own multiple Italian grinders in the past including my Mazzer Super Jolly that is now for sale. The dF64 Gen 2 (Vers 1) is my first single dose grinder and I simply love the concept. I have both the White (office) and Black (home) and they do a clean job with no static.

I have a Turin Lucca df64 gen1 v5 with stock burrs and I have no issues with static, so I don’t wet the beans. I do use the bellows for zero retention. I always weigh before and after grinding, and the weight is consistently the same, or the scale will search between a tenth less to the same weight in as out. I have only one mod on my grinder which is using an Opus Design angled base which increases the grinder angle an additional 8 degrees. One of the changes Lucca made is a different de-clumping flap. So I don’t think that an anti-static generator is the only way to get the same out as in. I like the simplicity of df64 grinders in general, and the original design is still the most basic having the least things to go wrong. Enjoy your videos, keep up the good stuff 👍

I get what you're saying about the tamping issue (ie whether it's needed or not) but I think the issue is more about being consistent. On your second shot, you changed the grind size but also didn't tamp. Therefore when the shot still ran too fast, it would be hard to know which variable caused it. One variable at a time seems to be the most sensible thing to do.

“DF64 Gen... Who knows?” lol That’s a good question though. Is it Gen 2 or Gen 1 V5? I put in a preorder for a Gen 2, with Coffee Addicts in Canada, with different burrs, if I remember correctly it’s DLC burrs. I think the plasma generator makes the biggest difference towards zero retention and not having to RDT. Next step is DF64 Gen 3 with Flux Capacitor! lol

Wow, I thought I had a hard time getting pucks out of my IMS taking 3 whacks. That puck didn't want to come out. I still like my basic Breville basket, because I am lazy, and it plops right out.

Anyone taken the motor out? Is there space for additional noise insulation around it?

I am new in the espresso/coffe worl, and this week I will receive this grinder...so to have a starting point, what number do you recommend me grind the coffe? I know that I will need to change it and make some proves, but it will be good to know a starting point. Maybe 15?

I'm still unsure and can't decide between the Df64P and Df64 Gen2. What do you say?

im in the same boat .. is the gen 2 worth the extra 60 bucks ?

Either will be fine as will a gen1. The basic grinder is the decision. It’s not much different than cars and car options. The price goes up while the return on investment drops. YMMV

@@Xrayg219the simple answer is no. If you are adverse to modifying your grinder it changes to yes, but a modified gen1 is capable of zero retention without RDT. And the $ of the mods? About $60. On another note I think I would avoid the variable speed version based on the feedback that it’s a requirement to start the grinder before adding beans at the slower speed settings. Why? Because the motor is losing torque exponentially as the speed decreases. I never turn my df64 on prior to adding beans because the motor has plenty of torque. I might if I was into light roast beans, but there is no reason with medium and dark roasts.

The DF64 seems hard to dial-in or maybe inconsistent. You’ve had it for a while now and it seems like it won’t produce consistently good shots.

Don't blame the coffee grinder, its not its fault. I watched the whole video, and it was mighty obvious to me, that Mr. Hoon was completely screwing everything up like an armature. Twice, he didn't grind fine enough for espresso. Obviously you got to grind finer for a light roast, any professional knows this! Also, he never uses the bellows on grinders that are provided to him. The reason he gives for not using bellow on grinders, is because he doesn't like the look of them, give me a break, they have a purpose, use them! Then he spills coffee beans everywhere, and freely admits that he loaded 16-grams in, instead of 18 grams. He turbo shots two times! Someone even asked him why he didn't use his flow control on the Bianca, and he gave a BS make 0-sense excuse. He should have freaking used it. Absolute moronic amateurism in the extreme.

I have a gen1 v5 and it takes me about 2 pulls playing with the grind setting to get 30 seconds to 2X dose wt to shot wt. Any df64 is capable of this. They are extremely simple to use, and they produce great expresso. I don’t use mine for any other style but I would be sure that any version of a df64 will produce perfect grind for any coffee style. I also don’t RDT and I have zero retention issues by simply using the bellows. No popcorn issues either. I think people get carried away with making problems when none exist. I’m sure the manufacturers are loving that too. But the talking heads are making mountains out of molehills as shills. It gets old 🙄
