This song has one of the most "beautiful" bass tones ever. So full and rounded and then when it syncs with the riff - just an amazing rich sound. Randy Bachman sure knew how to engineer a melodic yet thunderous riff

Check out "let it ride" "roll on down the highway" "taking care of business" Randy Bachmann the guitarist and main vocalist was in a band before this called The Guess Who. If you think that Randy Bachman is the second most successful songwriter in Canada and only mention Gordon Lightfoot as his superior - you need to change your meds!
Ever hear of Neill Young, Joni Mitchell, Robbie Robertson, Leonard Cohen, Alanis Morrisette, Bryan Adams, Paul Anka, Shania Twain - not to mention Drake?
Also, Randy was certainly NOT the main vocalist of BTO. Freddy Turner was the main vocalist of BTO.

Yes, Bachman's brother, who had a speech impediment, used to hang around the studio when they were recording, and they used to play this for him as a joke ... but he absolutely loved it. It was never meant to be played publicly, but then, running short for/on the album by 1 song, the producer (I believe) insisted that they do this song, and it became a major hit for them.

The sheriff who was at the door wouldn't let me in, but I looked over his shoulder and saw a Randy Bachman sitting at a table with the rest of the band and waved to him, as if he knew me and was waiting for me. You two are such a sweet couple. I love seeing you experience these songs for the first time like I did as a kid. Especially classic Canadian bands. I remember listening to BTO while eating breakfast before going to school. Later, as a teen, I saw them open for Van Halen. Thanks for bringing back the memories.

    Spin "Not Fragile"
The first music I ever bought was an 8track of BTO. Still riding a two speed gold sting ray Schwinn with a sissy bar and drag tire on the back rim. Holy crap I'm old.

This song started out as a joke on Randy Bachmans brother Gary, because he had a stutter. Their manager heard it and loved it. The rest is history. All around upbeat tune!

Around ‘93, I was driving and the DJ said how he stuttered because he got mad at his brother who stuttered and sang it that way. Then the DJ played it and I heard it all the stuttering parts and nearly crashed my damn car I was laughing so goddam hard.

Randy Bachman is very underrated guitarist and a class act. I believe he wrote this as a spoof for his brother who stuttered. When producers heard him playing it , they said you need to record this. He explained and recorded it. The producers were correct.

Saw these guys in the early 80's and MAN can they bring the thunder live. They sounded awesome while still rockin the house SO hard. Such an underrated group. I remember we all tried to sing the lyrics when it came on the radio just to try and get the stutter right. Randy Bachman is a rock God having been the songwriter and driving force behind The Guess Who AND BTO.
