  • NO, I DIDN'T GET A SHOT OF THE NEW CYBERTRUCK PROTOTYPE! They've got it inside the factory most likely for "clean" shots, so perhaps later this week, they'll do the "dirty" shots with lots of mud and Texas dirt; so there will be our chance to chase it down!
    Tons of solar will be going up at Giga Texas, it's just a question of how much; what percentage of the factory's electrical needs will be fulfilled by the sun? We will find out together! More deliveries today, with a lineup of trucks in the South, and lots of action all over the site, another great day at Giga Texas!
    Please enjoy the video and as always, I appreciate all comments, questions, statements, proclamations and otherwise below!

    Thanks Jeff. How much rain? Inches, points, or millimetres, I can handle any measure.
    1:01. North end. Battery diagonal corner. Tanker beside the pump array. Adding/removing water?
    1:09. North end Casting, road. Conduits. Placing some rough formwork to concrete the conduits in.
    Paint, right of screen. Very visible in this light, orange hose connection the final leg of the pumpline from the Evaporation Pond back into the building for treatment. From there, anyone’s guess.
    1:51. Easement. Recycling bins. Some Model Y BIWs in the bins. Undercoated. 10:25 also.
    2:17. South end Stamping. Wall panels placed. Temporary window coverings.
    2:16. Stamping Extension. Door openings. Inside seems dry, not much rain, or the roof drains have been connected.
    2:58. West side Main Entrance. 15 glazed units to be installed. 5 crates of 3 units each, so enough here. 2 apparently un-opened crates stored across the highway. Hmm.
    3:20. West side Battery, apron. Stack of pipes in with the additional pumps.
    North west pinch point. Looking more like a 4 lane road than yesterday. (* )
    3:57. North end. Conduits. From this point of view, it’s a weird alignment to be taking if the conduits were to be run out to parking area only. Pointing substation-ish direction.
    4:51. East pond outfall channel. Left of screen. Doh! Some deer! Some female deer! (Apologies to the Simpsons)
    6:58. Evaporation Pond. I wonder what the plan is once it’s emptied.
    11:13. Starlink site. 2 un-opened crates of glazing units here.
    12:02. South end, new hardstand/apron area. The line between dirt and gravel is the likely rough location for an east west drain to serve this massive paved area.
    12:45. GA roof. West facing PV array. Snippet from a link posted by Joe Tegtmeyer: Recent study reveals some interesting facts. The conventional understanding is that the solar panel facing south (in locations north of the equator) will receive the most sunlight. This is correct to a certain extent however recent studies have proven differently: According to a new study from Pecan Street Research Institute, West-facing rooftop solar panels produced 49 percent more electricity during peak demand compared to south-facing panels [1]. This research was conducted and data was collected from fifty homes in Austin, Texas, which had solar panels installed in different directions. Some homes had only south facing panels, some only west facing panels while some had both.

    That shot on the other side of the freeway at 11:31 looks like an expansion building, 1/3 of the size of the main factory. Maybe that's the factory that's going to help produce the Model A? If that's the case, it's going to take 1.5 yrs for the factory to be up and running per Troy Teslike's info, but could make sense, since the Model A will probably be first produced in Shanghai.

      From a comment a few weeks ago.
      Some searching found the ‘Tesla Impact Report 2020’. The report states 3200kW has been installed at Nevada, and the plan was for 24000kW over the whole of the existing building structure. Giga Nevada measures 178500sq.m (Giga Texas 392200sq.m). 24000 into 178500 = 7.43. 1.0kW per 7.43sq.m. Applying that to Giga Texas, 7.43 into 392200 = 52,786kW. A nominal 500w per panel, 104,000 panels! I did another calculation based on PV panel size only, and covering half the roof and came up with 76,000 or something.

    • @NinetooNine
      @NinetooNine 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DessieDoolan Half the roof is more reasonable I think. But thank you. So maybe in the area of 25 MW's. That's impressive.

    • @DessieDoolan
      @DessieDoolan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NinetooNine Here's the other calculation based on roof area and panel size alone:
      Roof area is 392,000 square metres. Joe has some information in his video about the panels showing there are 2 sizes, a 525-545w panel, and a 480-500w panel, physically size per panel is 2.57 square metres, and 2.34 square metres respectively. Cover half (allowing for roof mounted plant, ducts, vents, flues, and access to the panels) the roof with panels and there's space up there for 83,760 of the smaller panels. What each panel could generate per day is for someone else to work out (orientation unknown yet).

    So what's going on with the south end? some were saying parking lot, but the area they just starting grading is shaped like its going to be the footprint of a building extension. i know we saw documents suggesting that at one point.

    • @peterdog15
      @peterdog15  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Looks like an extension.

    • @DavidJohnson-tv2nn
      @DavidJohnson-tv2nn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No footings to support a building, no concrete pilings to support the footings, and the site plan shows the grade sloping to the south.

    • @AndyAndy-we9pe
      @AndyAndy-we9pe 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Musk said they could eventually extend the building by 500 feet, He never said they would or if they were going to when. No builder would ever lay the concrete flooring of a building before the foundations or support infrastructure was installed, like with the rest of the factory. There is no southern building planned and the clearing is for s large carpark to stage new cars for delivery. Watch a shanghai video to see how tesla do it.

    • @DessieDoolan
      @DessieDoolan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The drawing titled Overall Site Plan B that gets quoted (and misunderstood) only shows 'Extents of Impervious Cover'. This area south of the road was included to ensure that no matter what was built there, the design of the stormwater management system allowed for that amount of impervious cover also. Roof or parking area, same amount of run-off. The plans don't show a building.
      The General Grading Plan showed this area falling about 7’ between the road and the pond. Now the south half is being regraded with falls towards a likely east west central drain.
      Elon tweeted of a possible 500' building expansion, no time frame given.
      They have removed and stockpiled the gravel to either side. Laying down some more fill to raise this south side so that it drains to the centre. One stockpile of gravel left of screen at 1:57, other stockpile of gravel at 2:28 bottom left.

    • @hardernl8893
      @hardernl8893 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DessieDoolan Dessie, does the siteplan "Extents of Impervious Cover" also stipulate that it is diamond-shaped? Seems a bit odd, for a parking lot the primary consideration probably is traffic and best use of available space. A diamond shape has no added value I think, but perhaps it is an Elon-Special ?

    I'm confused - I just put Solar panels on my home roof and everything I read and see says that IF you can tilt the panels, tilt them to the south as most of the year the sun tracks to a greater or lesser degree towards the south. Especially in the winter! SO why are they sloping these panels to the west? Somebody call Elon :-).
