  • If you like collard greens you will love this recipe. These southern collard greens are simmered in rich and flavorful chicken broth with smoked turkey drumstick and smoked hickory bacon . They're perfect for Thanksgiving or any day of the week. The bacon and onions give them a wonderful flavor.
    Ingredients
    2 bundles collard greens
    1 turkey drumstick
    3 tablespoons unsalted butter
    4 strips of bacon
    1 tablespoon red hot sauce
    1 small onion diced
    1 pack my secret onion & soup mix,
    1 teaspoon garlic powder
    1 tsp onion powder
    1 tbsp. minced garlic
    1 tsp sugar
    1 teaspoon pepper flakes
    1 teaspoon salt
    1 tablespoon chicken bouillon
    1 teaspoon ground black pepper
    1/2 tablespoon better than bouillon
    9 cups chicken broth

    Honestly, I could eat collard greens 7 days a week. Everytime I prepare them I add or subtract something different. Delicious and healthy - nothing better. No side dishes needed. Thanks.

    The only thing I add is 1 tsp liquid smoke to the pot liquor. It just takes that flavor up a notch.

    Another must try!! I’m not big in greens and I’ve never cooked them before, but I wanted to try to make it today per new years tradition. I knew I had to come to Island vibes to see if there was a recipe. Let me tell you, this recipe made me like greens and I feel so proud of myself.

    I'm making these tonight for Thanksgiving tomorrow!! I have never had collard greens and I am so excited. Have the greens prepped and ready. Edit: I don't think my kitchen has ever smelled this good. I'll be back in about an hour for another edit, I already tried it barely cooked and the smokey flavor was already insane and so good

    I didn't like collards as a child but I'm now glad I gave them another chance cuz I'm lovin' them. Question: I have a pressure cooker and would like to get some use out of it. I'm kinda new to your channel but do you do cooks with a pressure cooker? I am a gadget gurl and would love to see some pressure cooker recipes. At any rate, the collards look lovely.     Collard green have a delicious flavor all on their own. All that is needed is to simmer them for at least 45 to 50 minutes in low fat or fat free Swanson chicken broth with a tablespoon or two of vegetable oil. Season with salt, black pepper and some red pepper flakes. This method is good for people who want tasty collard greens without any kind of meat.

      @d m the sugar cuts the tartness of the collards and smoothes out the flavor. Your greens will not taste sweet. You cannot taste the sugar.

    You had me up till you added the sugar. That's when I said it's all yours.
    Sugar does not go on any kind of greens nor does it go in cornbread and biscuits.
    Sugar is for cakes, candies and desserts.

      Sugar takes away from the bitterness of the collards. It doesn’t add any type of sweetness to the greens. 😊
