@@stevenroberts2490it was clark who decided that the kids races were to blame for our failing rates rather than the teaching staff of people who had no kids so dont really understand them or are people who have never been blamed for anything as a kid so then never blamed themselves and the newly empowered govt leaders. As soon as people started taking kids from parents into schools and not earning the right to peoples kids this is where it all started. You can never just blindly trust a school or govt to just know what theyre doing because theyre all just people and you dont know how they got there. Trust and respect always needs to be earned especially with children so theyve just been targetting poorer and hard working colonial families who were the last true british teachers after bad cultures and ideas took over england when winston churchill forced through schooling and took away peoples kids this has been a slippery slope and a created generational trauma for everyone here and the only people who want to blame skin colour or race are those who were actually affected by anything because if they were theyd had more insights than skin colour. People should never have their kids managed by anyone else at any point and if people want to help they should do it with their own time and own money not a generalised answer from a govt that doesnt ask anyone. This exact same event has happened every single war and during thr spanish flu while everyone was apparently gassing peoplw in anither country nzers were being told to spray ammonia in their faces which is bad for peoples lungs. The most oppresaed people in recent history are those from colonial families and they are being oppressed by the same families that chased them away to start with

It's so good to have him, Winston, back, Mahuta was a disaster as this country's Foreign Minister, even her own people thoughts he was useless when they tossed her out in the 2023 Election. We should have been working hard to get a trade deal with India, but she very pro China in her political outlook, that's how I saw it! As for Helen Clark, love her, but, what use is the UN anyway, tell me something very successful they have managed to pull of, nothing. We need to start insisting that before we sign up to any UN agreements that those same agreements are debated not just by the Government of the Day, but by the people, via an election, or binding referendum. It seems to me that China pretty much owns a large number of smaller Countries that have a UN vote. I do not, and have not seen the UN as an independent organisation for a very, very long time. When's the last time they stopped a genocide or a war, never!

    • @elizabethbradley4301

I think you'll find it american expansion and not chinese. The chinese have only done so well as nzers and immigrants, govt leaders handing our homes over and maori with reparations living in NZ who are rich have driven our house prices up so far that it has become cheaper to buy overseas which removes a lot of our productivity which makes the country more and more dependent on china. A lot of these people should have used their money to create businesses and not buy our houses en masse. I have not had a single renatl that was owned by a nzer and the ones that were certainly didnt need them and were taking advantahe of "market price" even when their homes were worth 190,000 at some point and not 1 million. The govt has also been helping with this by buying homes at the same rate as the immigrant pricing when realistically govts should be looking in areas wuth cheaper homes or waiting for a price drop so that other nzers can buy them. Our country is being taken the p1ss out of due to spoilt kids and parents continually thinking its normal to use a "govt" which is other peoples money and efforts and none of their own to pay for their kids education when they already have money to do it themselves. People en masse using homes as an investment and putting their kids into debt has been stupid and universitt was not suppose to be such a large institution full of govt paid pointless rubbish

What is an "independent foreign policy" ? I suggest it is a policy NZ develops itself on its relations with other States without being influenced by those States. It does not mean that our policy/stance on critical international issues eg wars in Ukraine,Gaza, defence in the S Pacific, cannot be the same as or in conjunction with other key States. NZ has to be realistic. It is not and cannot afford to be "An island entire of itself " in the sea of international relations.

In reference to Clark's 'Independent Foreign Policy', was nothing more than a distraction, a quip that was echoed by lazy journalists and academics who were full of their own self importance as the guardians of bourgeois liberalism that gave nothing more than an opportunity to publish or perish their pearls of wisdom.
'Benign' is yet another buzz word of the era that continues to popped out in passing to exemplify the need of inactivity (No doubt created by an advertising consultant.....You know who you are) of the time for the public consumption to do nothing and influenced by another phrase of the time 'End of World History' (Fukuyama, 1992).
In Clark's era, what happened in 2000 was a rapid increase in bureaucracy, especially in defence at the cost of frontline staff. The precursor to: 'More hui, less do'ee'. I reference: 2006 'Timing is Everything' by Dr Peter Greener.
Yes, I acknowledge there were a number defence of procurements. Procurements that looked good on paper, but ultimately didn't work by a generation that didn't know how to use it in the first place.
Thus, it gave birth to the military leadership careerist (senior officer and warrant officer), who doesn't rock the boat in order to get another short term, well paid, cushy job and kick the 'can' down the road for someone else to pick up because military leaders standing in front of water pipes for social media doesn't meet career / legacy KPI's like a carving in front of a headquarters.
Since becoming a Dominion in 1935, NZ has always had an independent foreign policy and pursued its national interest and stood for an international rules based system. It's the very reason why NZers are good world citizens.

We are in a dynamic geopolitical environment. It is no longer East versus West and vice versa. We need both the US and China. Those countries which are able to balance their relationship strategically with the two great powers without becoming vassal states, will be very successful in this new global order.
