I presume the original idea of government funding media was to make it independent of influence from the likes of big farma etc. If the government pays them they become independent, they aren't influenced by anybodys money. I’ve stopped listening to NZ mainstream media for at least six months now after they are continuing to disenfranchise the truth on so many areas!!!!!!!

Is anyone still a paid subscriber to The Herald? I paid my annual fee for years, but canceled out a couple years back when I could no longer stomach the garbage they were spewing up. And to think I also religiously watched the TV news at 6pm each evening (would never miss it) but now I turn TV off immediately The Chase has finished at 6 - TV news is also now garbage

Don’t you think that we need to have an enquiry? I hate that idea an impartial enquiry into the New Zealand New media in this country, and that there needs to be some way of forcing them to bring balance into news items, and that the penalties for clearly bringing unbalanced and often untruthful or half truths to a news. Item needs to be addressed and possibly the board of television New Zealand needs to be replaced.
