    I learned a tip about drawing out your flowers or objects before painting. Instead of using pencil and having it show or dealing with erasing, you could use a watercolor pencil very lightly that will blend with your painting when wet. 🙃

      Oh, I was going to ask about using a pencil. When the artist described erasing the pencil marks, does she mean after the paint has dried?
      I just rec'd a set of watercolor markers & watercolor pad as a gift and this is my first tutorial into how to use this medium. It's beautiful. Thank you for you advice and thank you TanyaLeintz for this engaging and informative tutorial. You're very talented.🌺🎨🌻💧🌸🖼🖌

      @@isabellind1292 yes, they mean after the paint has dried. But if you paint over your pencil , it won’t erase nicely. If you have watercolor pencils, use those instead. Then you won’t have to erase at all. It will blend in with your watercolor. I hope this helps. 😊

    What I find frustrating about these pens is that they don't really blend as well as regular watercolours - they sink into the paper where you apply them with sharp outlines and they don't really move on top of it. I'm trying to find an advantage they have over watercolours - but I can't see any? I have a different brand though - but they all seem very similar.

    • @TanyaLeintz
      @TanyaLeintz  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi, you are definitely correct. When you apply the marker directly to the paper, it does usually leave a dark line. If you can use that line to your advantage in your painting, like adding some details. Then it works great. You can also rub some marker off onto your palette and then dip your wet brush into that. It does take some time to find your groove with them. If you like them, keep trying new techniques. Happy Painting

    So happy to find this tutorial!!! Thank you! I have this set and I have found ice blue is a wonderful color for glass, as in replicating a glass vase. Artesia also sells four packs of one color if you go through specific colors a lot. I bought the 96 set and I absolutely love mine.
    Fyi.... If you take the paint marker back over a wet surface the paint marker actually absorbs the water and the color leaves the brush nib.
    Then you have to wait for the color to return. You can blend colors but it's very difficult to add color to a surface that is too wet.

For instance, I'm attempting my third painting now of a pumpkin sitting out in a field, in front of mountains, with a stone walkway in front of it and hay under the pumpkin. So, I'm using 4 watercolor pencil colors in the pumpkin, 3 on the hay, 3 in the sky, etc. How do you hide the pencil sketch in the final piece? I have the Staedler 18 set, the colors are awesome, but it behaves exactly as you demonstrated here 2:20. I am coming from watercolor pencils, a pencil mark dissolves brutally easy, this brush paint dissolves very hard you spend half of your life to spread out some faint layer of pigment from them. I have the impression that these are designed to be used as is and use watercolor as an edge smoother nothing more.

    If you want to blend watercolor brush pens, you need to apply the water on the paper first, then the ink. Putting the ink on dry paper won't give you those nice watercolor blends.

    Brand matters. I used canson graduate paper and chromatek 55 ct watercolor pens and they require very little water and no pressure to blend out. it is easy to lose definition and blend everything into 1 solid color. I did the dark centers of the petals and then drew a petal shape with the water brush next to the centers (no touching) and then gently let the pigment flow into the water. I can guide it a little, but if I do too much, it all blends into one color. I can't add details and rewet the paper (i.e. the red purple addition to the purple flower) without ruining the details I already had. Whatever colors I put down have to be right the first time. It's very hard to cover up mistakes because the pigment is strong and stains the paper quickly.

    There is so much depth in those petals. So you don't have to dip the colored pens in water? The paint is right in the tip of the marker? I thought we'd have to dip the tip into water to activate the color. So pretty

    • @TanyaLeintz
