I love that you demonstrated these techniques on a flower, an actual object. Not just a square or sphere... I am a bloody beginner and seeing these differences is HUGELY helpful 🙏👍

For some reason I can't grasp it enough to apply it unless it's demonstrated with an actual object.

This is a great tutorial … I’m a month in on my water colour journey and this is the best illustration of the different techniques by far … I’ve been searching for my next practise piece and this is it! Thank you so much! 👏👏👏

This may seem silly, but as someone who hasn’t tried to paint with watercolors since I was 14 in art class in school, this was magical. Such a perfect way to easily showcase simple techniques with such lovely results. I bought my first watercolor set in 31 years after watching this. Thank you for encouraging my inner child to play.

THIS!!!! WHY DID NOBODY EXPLAIN ME ANY OF THIS BEFORE??? This is exactly the reason why i think watercoloring is one of the hardest mediums for art 😭

    a. Love being so involved with the process you forget what you were saying.
    b. Love the laughter.
    c. Love including the mistake of the first dragging and moving on to DRAGGIN 2.0
    d. Love that I literally kept going ooooooh the whole way through DRAGGIN 2.0
    e. *most importantly* LOVE how you show each technique with the same subject
20/10 for grace, humility, and knowledge

I like that you did the same flower for each example so we can really compare the style of each technique. My favorite is the glazing because it reminds me of stained glass and is the technique that made me fall in love with watercolor in the first place.

I’ve been working with watercolor for a few years now, but this demonstration has been the most helpful, truly. Somehow, seeing the same flower done differently really helped to clarify how the various methods could be used to one’s advantage. Thank you for sharing your knowledge…and humor. 😉

He’s so relaxing to listen to I could watch this man while trying to sleep.
Also the fact that he made a mistake with the dragging technique and kept it in the video, showing that there is no such thing as perfection, and that you can always start again.

Great video, I tried watching other watercolor channels and they just kept preaching about letting the intrinsic beauty take over and that you can't control water color. Obviously it's a hard medium but there are techniques like what you showed that have really helped me understand how to take my painting to the next level. Thanks so much!

This is exactly what I’ve been looking for! I really appreciate this kind of tutorial, which shows the underlying logic of how to understand what’s possible with watercolour. Plus, it’s *practical.* I know exactly what’s being done and why it is or isn’t working. No hand-waving away details we beginners need to know. Thank you!

Thank you so much for making this video, I have wanted to practice watercolors so long and all my paints have failed. I blamed myself for many years (I know there are books about it but I find it hard to understand trough just reading text), so it turns out I've not understood the importance of hot & cold pressed papers and importance of different brushes, yet the amount of water needed to reach the wanted result!

edit: 7:22 sorry/not sorry but lmao, your reaction. it’s like you dropped a baby. i would be remiss if i didn’t admit i’ve had many “dropped a baby” reactions over simple mistakes when painting 🤣
i love this so much!! i paint botanicals, and as luck would have it, a sh*t ton of poppies. as a self taught artist, i’ve been doing all these things but never thought of most of them as discrete techniques. this is extremely helpful
