    Been trying these tips with my 5 week old. She’s been awake for 6.5 hours now and just keeps eating. I’ve done EVERYTHING from the 5 S’s, gripe water, bicycle legs, rocking, and the only way I can get her to sleep now is a baby wrap, going on a walk and wearing her until she wakes again and then feeding her. I’m SOOOO exhausted and frustrated! Then hubby comes home from work and lets her sleep on his chest. We can get her to sleep and THEN lay her in the bassinet, but she WILL. NOT. FALL. ASLEEP. ON. HER. OWN.

    • @HelpingBabiesSleep
      @HelpingBabiesSleep  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We wouldn't expect her to fall asleep on her own at this age. She'll still need help, but what I'm hearing is she only falls asleep when upright in a carrier or when on someone which can be signs of discomfort such as reflux or a food sensitivity or not enough milk transfer.

    • @MrsV18
      @MrsV18 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      she’s bottle fed milk that I pump. She does have reflux so I’ll try putting a towel under the head area of the mattress to elevate her slightly but safely. Today I made a really hard push on the bassinet training and she fought sleep all darn day, even when I dropped her off to my mom for a respite. I had to soothe and comfort her and hold her to get her to settle back down a few times but kept on trying rinse and repeat to let her down drowsy but awake until we achieved success. She’s finally asleep in her bassinet tonight after being laid down drowsy but awake. I had to take her off hubby’s chest just now after she fell asleep during a feed and burp and re-settle her before laying her down but we had a really good teaching moment where I showed him how to do it, feet, butt, back, head, etc, and how to “swaddle her like he hates her” to ensure her arms don’t wiggle free so she can’t startle/moro reflex herself awake prematurely. I’ll be doing this moving forward and am hopeful the improvement will continue.

    Any suggestions for a newborn (3.5 weeks) that seems to sleep fine in the bassinet at first but as the night progresses she refuses? I can usually get about 1.5-2 hours of sleep, but then she wakes up and won't sleep unless held. She does fine in it during the day as well. It just seems she hates it between midnight and 6 a.m.

    • @HelpingBabiesSleep
      @HelpingBabiesSleep  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Something is bugging her and you have to figure out what that is - usually overtired, gas, hunger, or the need to burp.

    I’m a new mom and I have a 6 week old at at a round 3 weeks old it was really difficult to get him to sleep in his bassinet or crib at 4 weeks old I found out about him having reflux which gave me really bad anxiety and I wanted him to be comfortable I started holding him more often and sometimes longer during naps before laying him down the last few days he has not allowed me to put him down at all with out screaming I need help I have also tried swaddling doesn’t really help 😓😓😓

    • @HelpingBabiesSleep

      This is very very common. You've done the right thing by helping make him more comfortable. You'll likely have to do some sleep teaching at 4 months where he can learn new sleep habits. We can help with that in Helping Babies Sleep School www.helpingbabiessleepschool.com

    I use floor bed. My 6 weeks old newborn has reflux and doesn’t like to put down. I feed him less volume but more often during day time so night time he can sleep up to 4hrs at time. After eating, I burp him and do some tummy time to help with gas and digestion. that will be the game plan until 3-4 month mark, when his stomach sphincter is more mature and hopefully less reflux problems. And yes, swaddling is non-discussable. I started to use pacifier now. any suggestions!?

    Do you have any more tips on swaddling? My little guy can’t stand his hands covered even with mits or the mits made into the sleeves. He is 4 weeks and we have had issues with reflux also. He will lay down for a few minutes and then he spits up

    • @HelpingBabiesSleep
      @HelpingBabiesSleep  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So sorry to hear you are struggling. Make sure you're feeding away from sleep as that will help how much he spits up. You don't want to fill his stomach and then lie him down. You also want to think about your milk supply and how fast it's coming for him. There are many different swaddles you could look at - Merlin suit has hands free but not sure on the sizing for him, love to dream, miracle blanket, are all good.

    • @MrsV18
      @MrsV18 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pool8partyusually it’s recommended to wait 15-20 minutes after feeding to lay them down so the stomach has time to empty while they are upright. Some babies need a bit longer.

    • @HelpingBabiesSleep
      @HelpingBabiesSleep  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      At 4 weeks we work on gentle newborn sleep shaping where you are setting baby up for success and helping fall asleep in the crib/bassinet. At 4 months we work on independent sleep where we set baby up for success with timing of sleep and feeds but offer less help to actually fall asleep. We teach you how in Helping Newborns Sleep Class!! The newborn class is a game changer and can help you minimize the impact of the 4 month sleep regression. It can be harder to change habits by this age but stil worth a try! Work on it in the mornings when sleep is the easiest. If all else fails you can work on sleep again more after 4 months when she has more hand control.

    Is ok to put a 1 month old newborn in a cot when drowsy to get them to sleep (I know this is the ideal down the line) or is it ok if they fall asleep on you then you put them in?

    • @HelpingBabiesSleep
      @HelpingBabiesSleep  ปีที่แล้ว

      In the Helping Babies Sleep Method the goal is to put them down calm but awake vs drowsy so they learn to associate sleep in the bassinet vs in arms. As they get older the transfer becomes harder and you get stuck. There's no right or wrong way to do this but if you want to be proactively working on avoiding common parenting pitfalls you work on falling asleep in the bassinet. You can get more details here: www.amzn.com/B08WQ2J8MZ

    • @HelpingBabiesSleep
      @HelpingBabiesSleep  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They key is trying to avoid the crying but not keeping her up too long and knowing that you need to make sleep happen. a baby up to 3 months needs to be back asleep within 1.5 hours of being awake. Start there.
