    My 2 month old has been this way since birth. Would not sleep in hospital bed only in my arms. Since I’m over 8 weeks into healing from C section I’m back moving around a bit more and my baby girl will not sit in her swing or bouncer even car seat. I’ve lost a few pounds some days I cannot eat. And I breastfeed. She still cluster feeds and she only wakes up twice a night with one day nap.

    My baby was in the NICU for 2 months. She created a habit from being held at night by the nurses to help her sleep. She's been home for 4 months now and we are on our first night of sleep training. She cried for 70 minutes on the attended method. Gave her a break and re started on the check in method. She's gone the full 70 minutes again crying. This might be the worst case scenario you've ever had. We don't know what to do.

    My baby is 2.5 months old she has severe reflux so much that she can't sleep if laid even on an inclined surface, she doesn't let me leave and wants to sleep only in my arms and if i don't, then she doesn't sleep at all through out the day, it gets really exhausting for both her and me, and im unable to any houses chores 😢 please tell if you have any solution, she is being treated with meds but no much difference

      Hi Dr. Aisha, I'm so sorry to hear that you're struggling so much. Babies with severe reflux love to be upright to minimize the reflux but they also love the warmth and heat of the parent to soothe them. There can be many different reasons for reflux such as birth trauma, latch, food sensitivities, allergies and more. I do have 1:1 private coaching for parents with babies who are suffering. www.helpingbabiessleep.com

      We have other videos about this age group and being held. The #1 pillar of the Helping Babies Sleep method is that sleep is a learned habit.... and so we work with many 6 month olds that will only sleep in arms - because that's what they associate with sleep and what they prefer! Doesn't mean you can't change it :) www.helpingbabiessleepschool.com

    Hiya! You mention shaping newborn sleep gently between 4 and 8 weeks - our little one is now 10 weeks, is it too late to do this, is a different strategy required ?

    • @HelpingBabiesSleep
      @HelpingBabiesSleep  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's never too late to work on sleep habits however by 10 weeks I find some babies to be less flexible and so the results may not be as easy to achieve. But you can always work on timing of feeding and sleeping.

    Update, night 1 of sleep training went horribly. Our baby cried from 730pm to midnight when we decided to try and sleep her on her stomach. Stomach sleeping helped but she was waking up every 15 minutes until 6am.
    I think you need to have a section in your book on when parents need to abort sleep training. My wife and I just thought we had to keep going or else those tears would've been in "vain". I think you should also talk about the sleep training failures in your book. I read the book and you made it seem like a baby never fails to fall asleep. I really doubt my 6 month old daughter, 4.5 adjusted, is the only baby ever to never fall asleep throughout the night. You give parents false hope that it's going to work no matter what.

    • @HelpingBabiesSleep
      @HelpingBabiesSleep  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm so sorry to hear that you are struggling so much. You have a child that was in the NICU for 2 months and held that entire time and is only now 4 months. It sounds like is also still an underlying issue, and she is likely premature - and is younger than 4 months adjusted age. I think you need to speak with your pediatrician about whether or not she is ready for sleep teaching and about potential reflux issues. Wishing you all the best, HBS Team.

  • @Elizabeth-yv6bn

    Sorry for the long post:
    My daughter is 10 weeks old, I am currently all alone and stuck overseas due to visa issues and my newborn wont sleep AT ALL unless she is being held, even when she isnt sleeping, she wants to be held, she is all happy and content, but as soon as I put her down its game over. I tried using a carrier or sling, even snug ones, but nope, not good enough for her. She wont even nap, she is deep asleep and within 20 seconds of being put down, she screams BLOODY MURDER. I took her to countless doctors and there is no issues or reflux or gas, even if they has gas, gas doesnt magically disappear when held. I am exhausted, I know its normal with a newborn, but first 8 weeks, I couldn't sleep for more then 10 minutes at a time and only when I bite the bullet and let her scream so I can have micro-naps. The only way I can have micro-naps (which isnt enough to survive for a human being) is to let her scream in another room... it got so bad that I started to have memory loss and lost 40 pounds from lack of sleep and eating.
    This isnt because her reflux gets bad or gets startled, but she does the same when she is perfectly awake and doesn't like it. I tried using a 'swing', those cribs that gentle move and nothing helps. When I lay down flat with her, she doesnt scream, if she had reflux, she would scream when we lay down together. I feel bad for doing it, but I gave up and put her down and let her scream herself to sleep. I tried to rock her, the first night she screamed for nearly 6 hours and eventually fell asleep. I was so exhausted I fell deep asleep with her screaming bloody murder.
    I have posted on forums and reddit and people were so hostile and said 'this is normal', it ISNT normal! Im not trying to be special. Every parent I speak to, especially family overseas, even attached ones sleep for atleast an hour in their crib or in bed, I never heard of any newborn doing this asleep or not sleep, its normal for parents to be sleep deprived but every parent I knew atleast got a few hours of sleep her and there, the first 8 weeks, MAXIMUM I slept was 12 minutes at a time. I feel so bitter and angry and I am starting to feel cold towards my own daughter. Whenever I need to change her diaper or put her down so I could eat, she goes bright red, shaking her head side to side, kicking and screaming like she is being tortured.. its ridiculous.

      Does she bottle feed or breast feed? If she’s bottle fed, it could be the formula that causes her to be so fussy and cry.

      @@Elizabeth-yv6bn Will she let you swaddle her? Try making the room dark or putting a light blanket over her eyes and hold her while in a swaddle. Don’t necessarily have to rock her but you just holding her. A pacifier that she likes can help as well. Some babies go thru different pacifiers til they find one they like/love. Maybe she’s uncomfortable and wants to feel like she’s inside the womb again, you know.

    Do you have any tips for preemies sleeping transitions when they come home from NICU?

    • @HelpingBabiesSleep
      @HelpingBabiesSleep  ปีที่แล้ว

      Inside our group coaching program we have had many premies. Your biggest challenge is feeding with smaller mouths and stomachs which means you might need more frequent feeds. The other theories and philosophies around sleep are the same. They will catch up to their chronological age later in life - some kids that's 4 months, and others that's 5 months.
