    Unfortunately for Zenith, I think the weird “10 second” chronograph hand will prevent these current chronos from ever reaching “classic” status. Cool when it came out but it’s not aging well

    • @dsher503
      @dsher503 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Fully agree. If the Chronomaster Sport had a regular 60 second tracker, I'd own one by now. Hopefully they change that at some point and I think they'd get a lot more people who don't want to wait for a Daytona.

    • @kenormsby6702
      @kenormsby6702 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is the one thing I love about them! A proper 1/10th of a second function. Regular chronos make no sense as a measurement device. The ZCS is a proper stopwatch, we live in a decimal world, not a weird 4hz.

    • @993mike
      @993mike 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      One issue the Zenith El Primero Sport watch has that isn't well publicized is a failing sub dial at the 6:00. I had mine for 3 weeks, and then all of a sudden that sub dial would just continuously run without the chrono function being activated, and it would just do it at random times for no reason. It could be stopped and reset, but within a day it would just start going again. I did some online research and found it was a documented problem with the watch. I sadly returned it within the 30-day window and instead bought a trusty Omega chronograph with zero issues.

    People on watch related forums have been saying the same thing about those two Tudors being a “future classic or become desirable” for years. I just can’t see it.

    • @lonewolfemcquade8133
      @lonewolfemcquade8133 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      First of all Tudor makes a shit load of Black bays. So I doubt they will ever be rare or sort after and the fact it has faux patina and faux rivets will not become desirable traits

    • @BrittPearceWatches
      @BrittPearceWatches  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      🤣 well! That’s the fun thing about it! It’s all speculation! Only time will tell! They used to give away Daytonas when customers bought other Rolexes. 😝 in the 90’s my husbands AD was begging to get rid of the Nautilus! Time is a funny old thing! But of course: those are huge huge exceptions and outliers.

    The Oyster Perpetual with funky colours are already selling at crazy prices on the second hand market. I think the Millgauss is the future Rolex classic. Weird in a non-Rolex way and discontinued since last year.

    • @dellwright1407
      @dellwright1407 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agreed... I think it's the Rolex outliers that are of more interest. Much of the rest of Rolex are a bit samey and also nowadays too bling & souless, at least for my tastes. OP colour dials are fun, classy yet understated... the Milgaus a nice watch too. 1970s Rolex Explorer is a not bling, it's unusual and wears well... subsequent iterations I think a bit of a disappointment. Ditto 1016 Explorer.

    Great video! Bulgari aluminum, like most of their designs, is ruined by their obsession with their own name. Do we have to write BULGARI not once but twice on the bezel? - this is like wearing a Gucci belt with a huge G for a buckle - brands and logos are not a substitute for design (looking at you Louis Vuitton). Sadly the design is great but ruined by a “look at me” motif.
    Love zenith - I own one pre-star logo. But again with the new ones, my problem lies in the logo - being from Texas- I can’t unsee the Dallas Cowboy star on the watch😅

    The Hermes 08 would be on my list too, and it's still under £5k for the entry model (and it's titanium, from a company that sells a £320 baseball cap). The style should carry it through even though a square watch at 42mm will be limited in appeal the way 35mm variants of classic lines still are as we leave the large-watch era. But its wearability is nothing compared to the P01! No matter how cool it is, it's essentially limited to the sort of person who wears a bund strap. But I still want one.

    Going to make a interesting comparison but I think two brands share the pain of value proposition/price more than anyone; Oris and Bell & Ross. Both brands have super unique brand ethos and design. The former is cherished by the watch community, the latter, I don't think does (despite their humble origins in partnership with a community love, Sinn). But both are priced far higher than most are willing to pay for the movement inside, whether it be truly in-house (like the Oris) or black box in-house (like the B&R)

    I have owned some of these references. There are some exquisite limited edition Pashas such as a platinum bezeled, steel dialed chronograph with the Frederic Piguet 1185 movement but take the cover off the minuscule crown and try to set the time or wind it without breaking a nail. The Ploprof is an august watch and surprisingly balanced on the wrist but one no longer wears it much after the honeymoon period. The cylindrical bezel locking mechanism is by design ridiculously difficult to operate. I have been thinking about rebuying the Ploprof but then I remember why I sold it. My favorite eccentric Omega is the Seamaster Bullhead Chronograph. It is much more wearable than the Ploprof and is both scarce and mine has a beautifully finished silver dial. I think that the aluminum and rubber Bulgaris are overall pretty cheesy when compared to a gold bezeled Bulgari Bulgari reference. Since scarcity and eccentricity is a common denominator of many of your selections, the Genta designed Octo Velocissimo chronograph(with an El Primero movement) in precious metal on a massively wide black rubber strap would be my choice as to something that will stand out as the decades pass. Finally, the Tudor P01 failed because it should have been introduced on a single pass military fabric strap like the FDX Pelagos references. The OEM strap with the two cumbersome end links used as the points of attachment to the watch head made the P01 appear much uglier than it really was.

  • @simonyu8838
    @simonyu8838 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    A hurdle Hermes has in watches is that they don't really make anything men into style and fashion want so they don't have a customer base they can siphon into men's watches the way brands like Gucci or Armani could. I do love their dial layouts though and they look great in person
    With the Cartier Pasha, a hurdle is that the crown is a real pain to operate. I love the look but I've passed on buying one because of that despite being a bit of a Cartier fanyboy

    I love the Zenith Chronograph, but the deal killer for me is the lack of a 12-hour timer register. I understand that you terrific video is about future collectibility, but I use every chronograph feature on my Speedmaster Professional.
    I also have a Bulova Lunar Pilot and love it. But it doesn't have a 12-hour timer, due to its 262 khz movement.

    I'm glad you mentioned Grand Seiko as their Spring Drive technology is something to behold on one's wrist. I own a limited edition (287/500) US model only SBGA493 "Katana", but I think any Spring Drive will potentially become a collectible. I was also glad to see Rolex did not bring out a new GMT Master II with the Coke bezel as that increases the chance that mine will be a collectible one day. The rule of thumb seems to be that the less popular a model is when current, the more collectible in the future, mainly because of its scarcity.

    I agree about the Tudor P01. But I think it may only be full-sets in pristine unworn condition which will be ultra-rare in 30+ years time - and thus most valuable to future collectors.
    In the case of Rolex, a lot of the references that are 'obvious classics' will possibly be somewhat devalued by the very fact that large numbers of them will have survived as unworn-condition full-sets. I think quite a lot of people are keeping these watches in bank vaults as quasi investments rather than wearing them. But if there are 100s or even 1000s of 'em floating around in future, then it could become like a kind of reverse self-fulfilling prophesy. A full-set unworn example of the green-black GMT-MasterII, for example, might not be anything like so rare as some folks imagine. But a Tudor P01...? Probably _almost nobody_ will have kept one of those as a safe-queen!

  • @ianforber

    Two distinct categories here. Limited editions that will be rare vintage watches in future. Olympic or Moonswatch are perfect examples. Second, main production watches that aren’t well liked are well known about. You’ve nailed the latter with Hermes. What about Mont Blanc too, eg the 1858 Geosphere models? I don’t like them which is almost a guarantee that they’ll be worth a fortune in future!

    Hi Britt, as an owner of the Rolex 226570 in Black, I hope you're right! It's a classic look and I think one of the last true sports / tooly type watches from Rolex. I know Polar commands higher resale, but when I tried them on the 42 mm in white is a bit loud, whereas the black lets this watch blend in to any look, dress or casual. It's not a watch you see everyday, and I like that 🙂

Chronosports, P01's etc. are starting to make their way to those sites, so I imagine there will be interest in the future in today's overlooked weirdos. I expect any number of limited GS's to be classics, like the US only 4 seasons, etc.

    The plastic on the aluminum is very bad if you look at the pictures of ones used for sale.
    Idk if they would last

    Classics do not have to be expensive. Tag Heuer is an inexpensive classic. The Seiko SKX 007 is a classic but will become even more so now that production has ended. They used to be around $200 and I often see them at $1,000. Their value will grow considerably with time.

    gonna have to disagree about the bvlgari aluminium britt! the awkward proportions and garish over branding is too much of a turn off for too many people (me included). I think the rest of the vid is pretty spot on though, especially the mint condition moonswatches!

    I would say that the 16570 polar dial is already a classic.

    Hi there.
    Britt, may I ask why do you think the explorer ii are not liked now, and why the black dial in stead of the white dial, will be the collectable?
    Thanks and keep up the good work.
    Peace

    The Tudor NF wears very large on the bracelet. Great looking watch, but it wears really bad on my 7 in wrist.
    I could see the cartier roadster being a sought after watch down the road. Pun intended
