Do I hate Rolex? I purchased a Sub and Explorer about ten years ago when you could walk into an AD and be treated like a real person instead of how you are treated nowadays so yes, I hate what the Rolex experience has become.
I hear so many people saying this but it must be down to the AD surely? I’ve bought Omega and Rolex from different ADs and been treated just as well by both. They’re within 100 yds of each other so maybe that helps level the playing field.
I’ve had mixed experiences with Rolex and Omega ADs. I had a Rolex AD send me regular texts to let me know that they hadn’t forgotten about me and an Omega AD that never contacted me after I expressed interest in a model they didn’t have in stock.

I tried to buy a Rolex Sub more than once. Felt like an interview only to be told that they had other models (less popular) I could buy and couldn’t be added to the imaginary waiting list. I now couldn’t be more happy. I have 4 seikos , a grand seiko, a Tudor, a Tag and a number of micro brands. That’s absolutely 100% true. The only list they have is their flipper mates and those customers that buy at least 1 watch a year. My uncle was a very special customer in a Rolex AD in Singapore, and the owner and my uncle are mates. And he told my uncle their dirty little secret. I thought in the past that that’s exclusive to only that store just to find out that this is normal within the company.

Eh, I sold all 3 of my Rolexes about 2 years ago. I got really tired of the ADs treating me like shit, not including they’re so commonly replicated it’s just weird.
The reason flippers get hold of stainless steel Rolex models is due to the fact that the decision on who can purchase a watch is unfathomably left down to AD employees who will always prioritise their flipper friends and get a cut of any profit.
In 1998 after lusting after a Rolex, specifically a Submariner, for years, I finally had the income that allowed me to get one without going without more important things. My wife is Japanese and my kids are mixed Caucasian/Japanese. Would you suggest a two tone gold and silver case/bracelet or a silver bracelet? And would the dial face influence your decision? Jeez even when the Japanese are the focus there's no love for the Citizen Chronomaster, consistently the most accurate movement in the world, perpetual calendar (unlike Grand Seiko) with Zaratsu polishing the equal of GS and the best solar solution on the planet, you could literally put one on your wrist, set it, never touch it again and when you die it would only be a few seconds off.
Got my old man a GS SBGE285 last month, and decided I want a Japanese watch for myself. Citizen watches were quite appealing, but I ended up getting a JDM Casio Oceanus instead. Casio Oceanus just seemed to really stand apart from GS and Citizen, had solar and plenty tech, and the Citizen branding for their higher end watches just didn’t appeal to me. They really dropped the ball with their marketing… Now I’m considering buying a Rolex Milgauss in the grey market, which brought me to this video. Man, the Rolex aftermarket is a mess!
Regarding hatred for Rolex: There is a Thai idiom to the effect of "You hate it, then you got it". Perhaps a creative way to tackle the infinite waitlist.
Not a fan of Bremont but the recent hate looks like a herd mentality pile on. As a submariner and GMT owner I agree Rolex are boring. But (near) perfection often is.
Yes its insane the impossibility to have a rolex from AD, i know somebody who buy what he want with rolexAD ,he buy an explorer blue full gold for 40000 and sell it 45000 and give 50% to the AD..so they dont need to sell to genuine customer, they dont care,50% on any watch they sell is a good salary...perhaps rolex have to bive a better participation on benefit to they employee for stoping this situation
Nothing against Rolex, but as a child of the 80s I remember them having a rather naff golf club type image that's kind of stuck. Srill taints it and don't see much appeal. The basic steel subs and OPs are classic designs though. All personal :)
I NEED SOME WATCH ENTHUSIASTS OPINIONS I’m leaning one way on the following purchase. But want to make sure I’m not making a mistake here.. would you rather purchase. 36mm Rolex Explorer 46mm IWC big pilot Or 36mm Rolex Explorer 41mm Tudor black bay gmt - Pepsi 40mm Grand Seiko heritage spring drive
I was in NYC last week and stopped in at Bremont to check out the new Terra watches….as a Brit who purchased one of the very first Bremont’s while living in the UK, I am very disappointed with the new direction the brand has taken. The Terra’s are meh and the brand seems to of lost its soul… don’t think I will buy another.
This is a subject very close to my heart, so thank you for addressing it. I work abroad and desperately want a GMT, Oystersteel with the black bezel would be perfect, a watch for life. Can I get one? No of course not.
I have 12 watches. I thought I will never buy a Rolex because of the brand image but few months ago I had an opportunity to buy a Submariner no date from a dealer and I bought it. I have to say it is a nice watch and keeps perfect time, less than a second per day. It is a perfect beater. But my Speedy sapphire sandwich is more comfortable, Glashutte Original better looking and my Grand Seikos better finished. I understand that people like Rolex but for many it is the only quality brand they know. Overhyped? I think so but to purchase one is not going to be the biggest mistake of your life.
Whats you favorite New Order LP? Also the Sub is the most iconic watch ever, the Ur watch, the template all other watches are measured by. I would reccomend a waterproof watch for delivery😂
I wish Rolex would make smaller Explorer II’s. The 42mm Explorer II is way too big and chunky. But, my biggest gripe with Rolex aside from the buying experience, is that I just can’t spend $6400++ for a fine Swiss watch with a plain solid caseback. If I’m paying so much I want to see the movement I’m buying and it better be decorated to some degree. This is an absolute deal breaker and I can’t believe so many people don’t care and give Rolex their money and never get to enjoy seeing inside. Weird.
Britt I like your channel, but the problem with climbing a ladder to get to the top of a fence is, if you are afraid of heights you’re stuck on the fence.
As a guy who just got into watches this year, I was sadly too late to purchase the only Rolex in the lineup that appeals to me- the Milguass Z Blue. Now, I am thinking about buying one in the grey market, but the mark ups are crazy high! To you Rolex veterans, do you recommend I should pull the trigger now? Or will prices relax with time? I hear that Rolex may return this model in a few years, but I am not sure if the Z Blue will return. Thoughts?
I would say either the Datejust or the Day-Date are the other most iconic. Yes the Moonwatch and the Daytona are iconic but not really as known outside the watch community. Everyone that doesn’t know watches sees a nice watch and immediately assume it’s a Rolex. Everytime. Especially if the design at all resembles one
As an omega fanboy I don’t think it’s fair to call the Seamaster the most iconic watch. Maybe in another 25 years if its popularity continues. An argument can be made for the Rolex Daytona
Best wishes, Watch Mama! The Cartier Tank is the most iconic watch of all time because the general public can name it without hesitation. Regarding Rolex, one should hate the person or the AD (or whatever colors one’s negative association with the Crown). They make solid movements, created an entire design language, and if you want something like those earlier models and don’t want to wait or pay more than retail, they offer Tudor. My Tudor MN-FXD could be my only watch.
Loving the Joy Division tee!! I recently bought a Citizen eco-drive chrono, and i have to say the finishing and quality are exceptional. Really opened a new door for me. However having recently lost my job, will need to find a new one and get saving 😢
Gray market "flippers" get all of the prime watches from ADs because they will buy 10 watches at a time and will also take the less desirable watches from the ADs inventory. Something that Joe Blow walking in off of the street cant do.
Hi Brittany. So glad you and the wee baby are all doing well. As a father and grandfather it brings everything into perspective and although I am a watch lover they mean absolutely nothing compared to family. Rolex or Timex at the end of the day it is totally irrelevant xx
Hey Britt, you should definitely look up Blok watches for when your kid gets old enough to wear a watch. swiss made, very handsome and rugged with really useful little timer bezel.
2.5 month wait from AD for Rolex 124270, got the call 2 days ago. Maybe the Tudor BB54 purchase made them call me.. I am not sure but definitely didn't ever expect a call honestly. Its possible I guess!
It was definitely the BB54 buy, let's not pretend it's a pure meritocracy, everyone knows that having money and giving it away to rolex/tudor makes you "jump up the waitlist".
I get the tag thing. I've got a collection that I'm very proud of and would make some very jealous (and make others think I'm a peasant). About 4 months ago, I got a Tag 2000 series from Watchfinder. They had a sale at the time and add a voucher. Got it really cheap and just thought I'd wear it for a bit to scratch a neo vintage quartz itch, and sell on, but... I haven't taken it off since. Makes me wonder while I spent all this money on 'fancy' watches when I'm so happy with this 😂
A whole generation doomed to repeat the boom and bust cycle having not learned from history. Thank God because the next time I will be ready to ride the wave all the way to the peak.
You have a lovely personality Britt, lucky baby! I own a 90s bond Seamaster with chunks missing out of it, it goes to watch doc tomorrow! I bought a hamilton khaki auto 38 as a spare which is way more comfortable and I don't like taking it off.
Was in London last week , check to buy a British watch …. Nothing , nada , sweet Fo…all Bremont only Harrods an Swisswatch had them , price was stupid and no choice ….
So did I, and I own a Rolex and a Grand Seiko. Back in the day, many watches had a rectangular dial (Bulova, Benrus, etc.) but Cartier seemed to be the one you saw on celebrities. I don't know if they were Tanks or not, but they were certainly popular.
Overhyping goes in cycles I feel! 1. Brand A is good, earnestly gains lots of fans with a few critics. 2. The reputation spreads, growing the fanbase larger and into the mainstream, but now the critics are more vocal and growing in numbers too. 3. A larger group of critics now call out Brand A for being overhyped, with a heavy focus on the flaws. "If the brand is so good, why does it have X flaw? If y'all buy this yall are sheep buying a product with faults" 4. An alternative brand, Brand B, seems to be good and is now the recommended more often to people. 5. Brand B gains more popularity, and the cycle repeats but now the roles are reversed between Brand A and Brand B. Seen this happen to both Rolex AND Grand Seiko, Mercedes F1 AND Red Bull F1, and even amongst car enthusiasts brands that legitimately do something incredible and grow by their own merits are deemed "overhyped" when they enter the mainstream, like Bugatti. Same with TV shows. How many times has your favorite show been considered overhyoped by someone? I think those fall in the same cycle too. We like the "underdogs" and the "little guys" that are good on their own merit, but once those little guys turn into the status quo, public opinion sways in the other direction
I like some Rolex models and want for example an explorer. Because taste differs luckily. I don't like the faff around the brand. The way the AD acts, the attention it gets from people who like to take other people their stuff... I can wear a number of brands of the same price or higher and be safe but get followed around for an OP.
The problem I have with Rolex is that the idea of paying $24k for a five year old watch that has a RRP today of $17k, but five years ago when that specific watch was new was $12k, so you're paying over double what that watch cost new, after someone else has had the best (first) five years wearing it. That doesn't give me the "winning at life" feeling that I would have thought comes with Rolex ownership. That makes me feel like a complete loser.
Well said about Rolex hype, they make robust watches and that's it. Fail to get Rolex watches at retail and fail to flex/flip them don't make Rolex a bad brand.
@mkii2363 Thanks mate, it wears at 35mm. I personally like smaller diameter wrist clocks. I work Ioften in cramped quarters, instrumentation and the like. The watch collects fewer dings if it’s not too big.
A Rolex Sub was my grail watch when I was younger. I purchased a 16610 in '94 and even then it was hard to get at retail. Two years a go I purchased a SeaQ Pano on a bracelet and realized I don't wear the Sub anymore and sold it. I think Rolex has gotten like Ferrari. They make great watches, but the experience is horrible now. The attitude, the wait lists are insane. When I bought the GO from my AD, it was great, not only did I get the watch at a discount, I was treated with respect.
I think you're overthinking the watch size v wrist size equation. I hear people saying '40mm is too big but 38mm is perfect' which is just bollox when you thick about it, as it's just an extra 1mm on each side.
Do I hate Rolex? I purchased a Sub and Explorer about ten years ago when you could walk into an AD and be treated like a real person instead of how you are treated nowadays so yes, I hate what the Rolex experience has become.

I totally agree, but the watch market is not based on accuracy or reliability. It’s jewelry, it’s a status symbol or a personal style choice.
citizen really needs a new marketing team...
@@cle_roknn3742 Most accurate movement in the world has some cache/status.
They really dropped the ball with their marketing…
Now I’m considering buying a Rolex Milgauss in the grey market, which brought me to this video. Man, the Rolex aftermarket is a mess!
I have a Chronomaster. Also have a Rolex, Cartier, Grand Seiko, Omega, Breitling and too many Seikos to count. The Chronomaster is an amazing watch.
People moaning about Seamaster iconic with James Bond
Meanwhile Seiko Arnie : am I a joke to you grandchildren?
also, is that Baby G short from Baby Gringa?
Regarding hatred for Rolex: There is a Thai idiom to the effect of "You hate it, then you got it". Perhaps a creative way to tackle the infinite waitlist.
That’s about £4K today money. Very interesting to see how they doubled their price
Not a fan of Bremont but the recent hate looks like a herd mentality pile on. As a submariner and GMT owner I agree Rolex are boring. But (near) perfection often is.
Nah, its trash and overpriced. Speed run to bankruptcy.
@@TheBrah808 Not with 1/4 of the Swiss market & 10 billion annually.
I NEED SOME WATCH ENTHUSIASTS OPINIONS
I’m leaning one way on the following purchase. But want to make sure I’m not making a mistake here.. would you rather purchase.
36mm Rolex Explorer
46mm IWC big pilot
Or
36mm Rolex Explorer
41mm Tudor black bay gmt - Pepsi
40mm Grand Seiko heritage spring drive
Hey I made the video! New watch collector, love your channel Brit, thanks for helping get all of us through the pandemic in style!
Any Chance you could review The Longines Master Collection 190th Anniversary, please thanks keep up the great work.
Bremont has turned into aliexpress!
Awesomeness incarnate Britt! Great to hear you are OK, good luck with the adventure to come.
for 5K - Tudor BB GMT or , CLUB SPORT NEOMATIK POLAR, Oris Acquis caliber 400... or a used Rolex ;)
Cheers !
Don’t recommend breitling to first timers. They are watches people get rid of immediately unless they love the brand. Loud rotors and gaudy
My Breitling Super ocean A17367 with the Calibre 17 has a dead silent rotor 🤔I mean do you dudes just make shit up
Whats you favorite New Order LP?
Weird.
Can’t stop getting recommended videos from this channel
Thoughts?
Buying a Rolex and being afraid of wearing it because you may get robbed, that's not a path to tread on.
I went by a Rolex boutique in Glasgow today. Not a single watch for sale, all exhibition only. The staff looked bored out of their heads.
Go on a Saturday when there are ppl picking there watches up,I got my dj on a Saturday the store was rammed
I got my Rootbeer from Watches of Switzerland Rolex in Glasgow. Great experience.
6:33 my vote is the date just. It’s got all the Rolex hallmarks on display and appears to be their bestseller
Congrats on the new bundle of joy. Is it for collecting watches?
So Happy for you !! Can’t wait !
What do you think of the Mont Blanc watches
@mkii2363You obviously know nothing Montblanc watches.
Wear a watch (one of many) on my left wrist and Apple Watch ultima on the right which in my opinion is a wearable computer.
I have a cool Bremont (old school) coming into my hands soon too 😈
During summer, i actually prefer my BB58 blue on an Erika's Original nato.
Thanks for the episode
Loving the Joy Division tee!!
I recently bought a Citizen eco-drive chrono, and i have to say the finishing and quality are exceptional. Really opened a new door for me. However having recently lost my job, will need to find a new one and get saving 😢
the Discord bings in the edit made me check my Discord for PMs twice.
Had the SeaQ and I think you are right. It was better than my 39 explorer and other 37 to 40's that I have owned. Great watch.
Great video soup to nuts, thanks. Last question was the best :) :) :)
@@tuna5618 its ok its a great daily haha love the bb54
basically yes, if tudor release a black bay 54 gmt 37mm like the originals there is no appeal to rolex anymore really outside of dress watches
Hell, I might be more into a Tudor Royal than a Datejust already!
I don't make much. My kid is 3 and I bought him his first watch: Timex Expedition Indiglo. His favorite color is green so he loves the Indiglo.
Yayyyy…my SeaQ decision is approooooveeeddd ….❤️❤️
I think Flik-Flak and Parchie for baby will be so cool…
I get the tag thing. I've got a collection that I'm very proud of and would make some very jealous (and make others think I'm a peasant). About 4 months ago, I got a Tag 2000 series from Watchfinder. They had a sale at the time and add a voucher. Got it really cheap and just thought I'd wear it for a bit to scratch a neo vintage quartz itch, and sell on, but... I haven't taken it off since. Makes me wonder while I spent all this money on 'fancy' watches when I'm so happy with this 😂
Fun video, thank you watch gringa
Your kid will be born into a post watch-bubble world. They’ll never understand what we had to go through. 😢
A whole generation doomed to repeat the boom and bust cycle having not learned from history. Thank God because the next time I will be ready to ride the wave all the way to the peak.
Another reviewer compared Bremont to Hamilton now, saying that they were the expensive Hamilton, couldn’t agree more…
I actually kinda like Hamilton...does that mean I could potentially warm up to Bremont? Hrmmm 🤔
@@ultramagnus7842don’t know, perhaps it means you should stick with Hamilton and save yourself some money…
You have a lovely personality Britt, lucky baby! I own a 90s bond Seamaster with chunks missing out of it, it goes to watch doc tomorrow! I bought a hamilton khaki auto 38 as a spare which is way more comfortable and I don't like taking it off.
Another great vid
Rolex……I’m bi-directional bezel curious.
Was in London last week , check to buy a British watch …. Nothing , nada , sweet Fo…all
Bremont only Harrods an Swisswatch had them , price was stupid and no choice ….
Another great one, Britt!
As soon as you read the Iconic Watch question, my first thought was Cartier Tank.
So did I, and I own a Rolex and a Grand Seiko. Back in the day, many watches had a rectangular dial (Bulova, Benrus, etc.) but Cartier seemed to be the one you saw on celebrities. I don't know if they were Tanks or not, but they were certainly popular.
Curiosity: what category do you post watch-themed videos in? Entertainment?
Overhyping goes in cycles I feel!
1. Brand A is good, earnestly gains lots of fans with a few critics.
2. The reputation spreads, growing the fanbase larger and into the mainstream, but now the critics are more vocal and growing in numbers too.
3. A larger group of critics now call out Brand A for being overhyped, with a heavy focus on the flaws. "If the brand is so good, why does it have X flaw? If y'all buy this yall are sheep buying a product with faults"
Congrats on the baby. :)
Fail to get Rolex watches at retail and fail to flex/flip them don't make Rolex a bad brand.
what color are they
Your Q and A's are great. More please.
What about the 4P watch are they up there with the Swiss/Japanese brands
I sold finally me orient bino and put the money towards a 36mm explorer.
@mkii2363 Thanks mate, it wears at 35mm. I personally like smaller diameter wrist clocks. I work Ioften in cramped quarters, instrumentation and the like. The watch collects fewer dings if it’s not too big.
Good one! More Q&A videos!
I agree, Rolex will go back to the 2018 days and in the next couple of years people will be able to walk into AD’s and Buy Rolex again
Let’s hope.
More Q&A!
hate smart watches. it tells me all i need to know about someone
More Q & ehs please!!!
Sneaky ad placement… and I called your most iconic watch choice!
I love Rolex designs. I have a 1655 & HULK, both 42mm Steinhart homage. Both ETA movements. ❤ I'm getting the EXPLORER next.😊
I think you're overthinking the watch size v wrist size equation. I hear people saying '40mm is too big but 38mm is perfect' which is just bollox when you thick about it, as it's just an extra 1mm on each side.
Well, it’s not, try a 38 and a 40 of a similar design on, and there’s a big difference 🤷🏻♂️
The difference between a 38mm face and a 40mm is roughly 10%.
Ask your boyfriend if he'd think you being 10% bigger was insignificant?
I prefer the look of your tank on its bracelet.
Hearing W@nker with a Canadian accent has made my day 😄
I have absolutely fallen in love with smaller watches. (Even 38s are starting to feel gauche and look clumsy to me these days...)
