USS L.MENDEL RIVERS, SSN-686 The Norwegian Sea, North of Andoya 15th of November, 1968. 1600 Hours. Having successfully eliminated two hostile submarines the USS L.MENDEL RIVERS is intercepted by a surface patrol group while heading south. Whats worse than being hunted by a destroyer and a frigate? Trying to kill them with weapons that they can outrun at flank speeds. I hope you enjoy! US Navy torpedoes where quite backward during 1968. The MK 16 was used by the US navy during WW2. Tells you how old they where by this point in history. The Germans had fast acoustic guided torpedoes during WW2 (G7es).
Love the 68 series, a real challenge. On your approach, you were detected as soon as the active value went 10 and above. Lucky they didnt react quickly.
When facing that Kotlin, you were so close that you would have guaranteed a hit by firing directly at the oncoming ship and activating immediately, the torpedo would have had time to surface, and would have driven itself right at the ship from your position, and the Kotlin wouldn't have time to dodge.
In silent Hunter I usually fire torpedoes within 1000 to 500 yards. 7 KY for an unguided torpedo is just way to far. The closer the target the easier it is to hit as there is less time for it to maneuver away.
Magz, sorry that I am using your Cold Waters vid for this, but desperate times calls for desperate measures. Please make some more DCS AV-8B vids!! (Especially some TGP usage, and if possible, some GBU employment) Pretty please!! Cheers
Thanks!! Looking forward to it. (I keep checking youtube every few minutes to see if you have uploaded a new one! Hehe) Thanks for the great vids, cheers
Magz, if you don't want us discussing here, just say the word, I will remove my comment :) Debated Nothing, as far as I could tell, its using the water when at full power, so it seems to be limited. Some others that have early early access, said if the water runs out whilst hovering, you loose power and fall like a rock :) So it short, it seems to be modeled correctly already. Magz should obviously be able to say better though. Cheers
Magz for the love of god, turn down the audio on the intro text crawl. The beeping is so loud and sharp through headphones that it actually makes my ears hurt.
The 3rd person camera isn't realistic. What i mean is that currently in a 3rd person camera view, both the target and the torpedo are exactly where they're visually represented, so one could fire a torpedo with no active guidance and guide it to the target within a 90-100% range of contact accuracy. In reality, even a 1% difference in calculating either the targets or torpedoes position would mean there could be a difference of tens of yards between them.
I never said it was realistic I said it was not a cheat. *Huge* difference, now to your points. *3rd person camera view, both the target and the torpedo are exactly where they're visually represented* - Correct, this is at 95%+ targeting solution *In reality, even a 1% difference in calculating either the targets or torpedoes position would mean there could be a difference of tens of yards between them.* - Also correct which is why at anything less than 95% targeting solution targets do not appear in the 3d view and will also jump around or be displayed in an incorrect position on the map. Also with anything less than 85% clarity torpedo that are not attached to a wire totally vanish from the map and the 3d view if they are outside of 1KY
Riga class frigate, crew complement: 175 Kotlin class destroyer, crew complement: 284 Assuming no survivors which is unlikely since the patrol was so close to Soviet controlled waters with nearby support ships, that's a maximum of 459 men lost.
Please, please, PLEASE stop with the stupid dot-matrix printer sound effect at the start when the green text is showing. It's loud, extremely annoying and cliche AF (in a bad way).

MagzTV Great Video as always Magz, with love from America to a awesome Aussie!
Imagne looking out the porthole of your rapidly-filling compartment at the sub that just sank you.
With guided torpedoes this slow, it's no wonder they wanted to take out a ship within a certain radius of the torpedo with a nuclear weapon.

I think you mean acoustic... not autistic LOL
I always forget about the ear-piercing sound of the green text at the beginning.

My cousin was the executive officer on the rivers wish I could post the picture I have of the boat "rivers delivers"
At 02:46 in this video: COOL VIEW! Never saw that before.

Compared to 1984, 1968 is incredibly frustrating to watch.
I like how 80% of the video is commentary over open ocean and I can't stop watching
Awesome video excellent job thank you for everything that you do ..
First camera would make this game so much more immersive, though
Good video again mate, going to fire up the '68 campaign myself i think after this :)

Been waiting for some naval action

Magz, the sounds settings for crew sounds are in the Audio menu under "Crew Voice".
That takes way more skill than I have
Yessssss
Thanks magz
The MK 16 was used by the US navy during WW2. Tells you how old they where by this point in history.
Like the Mk 8s used by the Conqueror to sink the General Belgrano. Designed in the late 20's.
Magz, why don't you launch the Mk.16s in a fan spread to increase the chance of hitting the target?
Junpei Uses up large amounts of ordinance with little chance of effect

more AV-8B will be up in the next few days don't worry.
Thanks!! Looking forward to it. (I keep checking youtube every few minutes to see if you have uploaded a new one! Hehe)
Thanks for the great vids, cheers
Is the water cooling time limited at the moment or is it possible to run forever?

Magz, could u please do a revisit on the VENOM or VAMPIRE. I have just got them and don't know how to play with them
Is it possible in Cold Waters to make the MK 37 torpedo switch from the 17 knot cruise speed up to 26 knots as in real life?
James Davey It may switch when it's activated, but I'm not sure on that.
yaaaassss cold waters

and there is over 4000 men dead in those waters ffs what ever happened to clean the world
