I have watched nearly all of your Cold Waters posts. This one was as close to a perfect execution of the LA class sub as you could get. You used the thermal layers to mask torpedo attacks, used the speed of the LA class with thermal layers to run down the convoy and your Harpoons on the appropriate targets. I thought the first Harpoon on the Kashin might get shot down with SA fire but I guess you were too close for SA to react in time. Well Done!

you are the best cold waters player on youtube. picked up your channels stuff today and watched well over half of it. i thought it was funny that you fired that second missile at the alligator and you thought it missed and i gave it a ten second count down and was off by half a second. shame im too poor to afford this game, but i think it would be a waste of money at this point. oh well, glad i found your stuff.
I don't know what engine Cold Waters is made in, but I know that several engines will give you a set of default controls when you start a new project, which often include joystick controls. It's possible that Killerfish games just forgot to check those before release.
I'm so glad that we finally have another good submarine game, and not just old entries of the Silent Hunter series. I was sceptic about this game at first, but it feels very deep since you changed to elite difficulty.

Awesome engagement as usual! I find a few games with that bug as well. X-Com 2, for instance. have to completely unplug my joystick before it'll behave.....
I have been playing the Soviet campaign from the mod I grabbed, it's decent...but the US helos seem to be nuclear powered....I was on a map with no skimmers left, just one really persistent helo. 57 minutes of real time later (Most of it compressed in game) and the bloody thing finally gave up......

I believe it's a matter of basically duplicating the keyboard but moving the buttons so for instance your throttle could be whatever key switches tubes on a game that doesn't recognize it as a joystick and just as another input. I probably worded this terribly

I don't seem to have issues with that bug with the throttle and tubes. I just had issues with the Bergen Navy Seal deployment. But I just ignored it and took off to hunt shipping till window closed.

does anyone else use passive torpedoes in a circle pattern as kind-of traps?I do when I engage surface ships because they love to ping
Has anyone else noticed that the moon always appears in the north, when it should be to the south?
Given that the head guy is an Aussie, probably not too surprising, but still a bit of an anachronism.
When I visited Adelaide a couple of years ago, my sense of direction was all messed up until I realized that the shadows were pointing _south_ instead of north. :-)

Hey Mags! Instead of using harpoons, I'd recommend using TASM as they have a larger warhead. I've found no downsides to using the TASM exclusively, as I don't use ASM against ships with CIWS. Also, you should look into the VLS mod, having a vertical launch system for the missiles is really awesome!
I'm staying away from mods that add ability's to Submarines that they don't have IRL as this is effectively cheating.
The USS Boston is a first generation 688 class, It had no VLS.
That's fair for the USS Boston. You should definitely try the mod out in another campaign, though, as flight 2 LA Class subs had them from 1985, and they're a ton of fun.

Yes and yes. Nothing makes you feel guilty like accidentally torpedoing a humpback.
Yes they do appear, They generally generate sonar clutter and yes you can torp them. If you watch the end of my first Alfa video one of my torps that missed it's intended target may have acquired a whale.

I wish enemy would put up more fight. These ships where so blind that he just might as well dont bother to hide... Or it's only just the impression I am getting? Where even anti submarine warfare ships that helpless against their intended target ?
It's worth considering that I am pretty good at this game, I spotted the task force in advance and placed myself so that I would intercept it from the front while moving at only 5 knots making myself undetectable. I let the enemy sail towards me removing the need for me to power up the engines again allowing me total surprise in what would have been the most advanced attack submarine in the world in 1984 when this game is set.
Also I had a plan on how to take the fleet apart and used it. Cold waters can be quite hard, if you put yourself in a bad situation you can be in a lot of trouble. Had I for example gone into battle at 25 knows (full speed on world map) I would have had missile launched torpedoes raining down all over my location within the first two minutes of the battle.
Well...Here is my answer. :-) You make it look easy. :-)
If you can follow the torps to target could you do the same for the missiles? And on that note, have they modeled Point-defence systems such as the Kashtan? Would be interesting to follow the missile as it dodges gatling gun fire
boffinboy100 Kashtan CIWS came later. AK-630 is the CIWS the Soviets used in 1984.

Yes the ships have point defence systems, well some of them do. Missiles is a tough one, Basically you can follow them but only if you activate the event camera and that will only show you a full missile flight sometimes. As the missiles don't show up on the map sadly you can't just click on them to follow them like you do with torps.
Cold waters is like crack for me. Do you plan to play the 1960s campaign Magz?
As soon as the 1984 campaign is done I'll be starting the 1968 campaign :)

Like selecting active, then passive, then you can fire them. Sometimes it seems the fire control system is stuck.

I don't think we will get to use them but the soviets to attempt to deploy ballistic missile submarines from time to time, Those do carry nukes and are high value targets.
Both the Russians AND the Americans had them, The Russians had the T15, the T5 and the ASB-30 and the Americans had the Mark 45.
I would be Surprised if they didn't let you use them if for nothing more then a City Strike. It's wouldn't be an Alternate History World War III if they didn't -_-
Just because it is WW3 doesn't mean that everyone is going to go to nukes, Nukes have this bad side effect of wiping out cities, infrastructure and the civilians that inhabit them while rendering the areas struck uninhabitable. The whole purpose of going to war is to take territory, Nuking the places you want to conquer doesn't make a whole lot of sense does it? From the US side they are looking to defend and liberate NATO countries, Nuking those captured countries as a means to liberate them makes no sense either and nuking Soviet cities just increases the chance that the soviets will nuke NATO cities.
Despite the common belief it is highly unlikely that in the event of a break out of WW3 that anyone would throw a nuke as all sides are aware that as soon as one nation uses one, everyone gets nuked. That's the whole point of M.A.D, Everyone having nukes actually makes it too risky for anyone to use nukes.

It's not easy here, I have just spent quite a chunk of time learning the mechanics of this game inside and out.
Holy crap three transport full of troops, do you have an idea of just how many people you killed, man bang for your buck.
300ish troops, crews for the tanks and AFV's they would also be carrying plus crew. 400ish people per Alligator class. So 1200ish people in just the transports not counting the escorts and there crews.
YOUUUUUUU MONSTER, nah not really just Russians and in times of war hey.
