    No offense to Jimmy Fallon, but Johnny was a master who could be hilarious but also sensitive and insightful without just raucously cackling at every mundane comment.

      That's why he was the king of late night. I can still watch these old clips and am still blown away by his talent. Remember all those shows that started springing up in the late 80s and early 90s, thinking that they were going to take him down. Do you think anybody will be watching clips of those 20 years from now?

      First, yes, you are correct. Second, in my opinion, that very point is exactly what allowed it to be so great.
      To this day, I believe most people never get the main theme...we're watching Stallone's story - not Rocky's! Great and timeless movie!!!

    Sly did live in Philly for a little while as a kid. He moved here and went to Lincoln. The band that plays in Rocky III when they dedicate the statue to him is the Lincoln School Band. He incorporates as much of his own life as he can into the Rocky films.

  • @matthewgallagher1761
    @matthewgallagher1761 3 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    Another typically great Carson interview - he was funny, but thoughtful; great with one-liners, but also extremely intelligent. He put guests at ease and put the spotlight on them - not himself. And Sly comes off relaxed and able to expand upon the role and everything else involved with the making of one of the great films of all-time.

    No one knew that Rocky was going to be a timeless classic that I saw as a kid leaving the theater throwing lefts and rights just to watch my own kids so the same thing is a testament on a well made movie and the effects it has on its viewers..

    • @rocky3993

      "No one knew that Rocky was going to be a timeless classic" - perhaps Stallone did. After writing the movie, he accepted hundreds of thousands less for the story in order to play the lead role. He had faith in himself as an actor, similar to the character Rocky.
