    I change my cars like I change my undies, and I just bought a 2020 70tsi polo and I'm impressed at the handling and comfort of the drive. That 1.0 turbo engine goes way better than my glx turbo swift I had.

    First thing first the start stop system is not sluggish at all! The problem is in the DSG. I say that because I own Polo 1.0 TSI from 2019 with a manual and the start-stop system is excellent! Very responsive and reactis in a fraction of an second. Regarding the cupholders it is not true that they are not useful. Keep in mind this is an European car and as such we have smaller cups for beverages over here but still I use the cupholders on daily basis for coffe and even McDonald cups. They are not adaptive, the shape is awkward but they still do their job.

    • @CarSauce
      @CarSauce  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Fair enough! And yes, it is the DSG causing the problem with the auto start stop 😊. The cupholder were not useful for the small coffee cups I get, and the only thing I managed to get in there was a small bottle of water! Minor things though, loved the car overall though! And by the sounds of things, you love yours too 🏎️

    • @amiabull3915
      @amiabull3915 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agreed with both of Matt’s points, I can’t even fit a reusable water bottle in the cup holders and there’s no centre console in the 2018, plus I also find the stop/start very slow (but I hear you it’s the DSG though I don’t know what that is!).

    Thanks for the review! Does that mean the Golf (or maybe even Skoda) would have the same start/stop problem that you mentioned?

    • @CarSauce
      @CarSauce  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question, and one I'm not entirely sure because I haven't reviewed either of the latest ones! My guess is the Skoda Fabia might have a similar issue due to almost identical setups, though I haven't read or watched either vehicle have anything mentioned about that being an issue 😊

    @carsauce What do you think of the facelifted Polo? Life or Style? Better than the others in its class / at its price point? It's now coming out as more expensive than the T-Cross. Is it a superior car?

    IT's an octagon. The cup holder. It has 8 sides. Not 6. Also 2 seconds is at least 3x longer than you think. Anyways thanks for an enthusiastic review - I just bought a low mileage one secondhand and like it.

  • @Chundermuffin

    Thanks for the review! I just got myself a Comfortline a couple of weeks ago (less gear but same engine as the Style) after much umming and ahhing. I’m very surprised that you didn’t mention the paddle shifters on the wheels - another feature the Style gains over lower models - particularly as you love thr manual mode!

    • @CarSauce
      @CarSauce  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Congratulations! And my bad! Do you love your comfortline?! Thinking of buying myself a 70tsi 🙌

    • @Chundermuffin
      @Chundermuffin 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CarSauce I do love it! It's a DSG model with no add-ons, I'd love the manual with the Sight and Sound pack but my wife can't drive manual and I went with a demo that wasn't optioned. Based on how you spoke of the car in your review, I reckon that would be your ideal model. But given the price difference the 70TSI would probably still make you happy. One thing I haven't gotten used to yet is the speedo going up in intervals of 5 until 60km/h and then it goes up in 10s. Still throws me off. I have owned a manual Comfortline in the previous model as well, I can vouch for the Stop Start being less of a pain with the manual. Let us know what you end up getting!

    Hi Matt, I'm looking into the new Polo. I drive a '06 Mk5 Golf, and I'm used to it's 2.0L engine so when I test drove the Polo the turbo felt very different to how I was expecting - as I'd heard from lots of reviews that it drove like a Golf. The stop start doesn't bother me too much as I just lift my foot off the brake slightly so the engine re-engages before I want go (I do this in my brother's Tiguan). But the slow responsiveness was a surprise and as a cautious driver I'm not used to slamming my foot down to get the car to go. I will test drive the Polo again, but I was wondering if you think someone who is used to a responsive car will be happy with the laggy Polo once they're used to driving it? The Polo suits me perfectly - size and interior and everything else. Other reviews say it's fantastic to drive. So I'm a bit thrown by how it actually felt to drive. I'm not a car person.
    Also, do you have any thoughts on the 70TSI vs the 85TSI?

    • @CarSauce
      @CarSauce  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The slow response is unfortunately because it is tuned for economy! Did you drive the 70tsi or the 85tsi? The 85 tsi was really spritely when you put it in 'manual mode' and it up shifts on its own. It's something you'll get used too, took me less than a day 😊
      Goodluck on your purchase!

    • @PointSoldiers
      @PointSoldiers 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@CarSauce I drove the 70tsi, but I'll test drive the 85tsi this weekend. The 85tsi is right on the edge of my budget. I haven't learnt manual unfortunately, but I'll bring a passenger who can test it. Thanks for your help and the review video!

    • @CarSauce
      @CarSauce  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PointSoldiers thanks! The 85tsi is a huge upgrade! Also protip, the sport mode does nothing. Just warm the car up a bit, then put the cars transmission in manual mode and you'll have heaps of fun

    A Suzuki Baleno is well over 10 grand cheaper, has a far more reliable, smoother normally aspirated 4 cylinder engine, runs on 91 octane and is just as quick because it's a 1/4 ton lighter. Has VW fixed the issues with their DSG boxes? Is it still necessary to remove the carbon deposits from the intake valves after every couple of years? Do cam chains now last longer than 50,000 km? I've got a lot more questions but not enough time. AVOID that car!!!

    • @CarSauce
      @CarSauce  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fair enough, I understand your point! I have driven a few Suzuki's now and I can tell you the interior quality is just nowhere near as good. I haven't driven the Baleno, but I have driven the Vitara Turbo and the Suzuki Swift Sport and there are nasty plastics everywhere. The 7 Speed DSG is fantastic, except for the awful stop start system, and I prefer it vastly to the CVTs used in a lot of Suzuki's (not sure if Baleno has one though!) There are pros and cons to each for sure, but there is no doubt if you are reliability oriented go for a Japanese car. Though the 5 year warranty on the VW does give somewhat piece of mind 😊
      Thanks for the well thought out comment! I might request to drive the Baleno to check it out myself 😀
