I’ve driven lots of quick hatchbacks in the last 30 years. I now own a mk 8 ST having already owned more powerful alternatives. However, no car has come close to the Fiesta for the combination of useable power and incredible handling . It will be remembered as one of the greatest hot hatches ever made !
Haha, "One of the greatest hot hatchbacks of all time" - utter rubbish! It's not even a hot hatch, barely even warm. It's not in the top 10 of hatchbacks now, let alone all time! Sounds like you need to get out and drive some proper cars Chirpy

I bought a Polo because I want a nice comfy daily driver to commute to work in that transformers into something much more exciting when you push a button. That’s really what the GTi has always been about. The Fiesta is no doubt more fun but it would do my head in commuting and that’s what I do in my car most. Polo is the best all rounder, Fiesta better hot hatch.

Similar here. I have a 2017 Polo GTi with the manual shifter. Comfortable around town and crusing on the highway with plenty of oomph when overtaking.

Having had a polo gti and now currently own a mk8 fiesta st there is just no comparison at all, I've had the pleasure of driving most hot hatches on the market and the little fiesta is the best of the lot.

Hi. As someone who’s never driven a hot hatch, I’m thinking of getting one. I’ve sat in a mk7 fiesta st which had a bumpy ride and I’ve heard its the same for the Mk8. But how does the gti compare with st in terms of a smooth ride? Or are they both similar in that respect?

@@Dxn_AQW in a sporty hot hatch you can't really expect smooth rides, but in terms of comfort polo gti is probably more sensible, but in terms of fun and enjoyment the fiesta st blows the polo out of the water.

Don't have a Fiesta ST, never driven a Fiesta St, but damn, I really love it.
The ST is for the driving enthusiast, the GTi is just a fast fashion statement.
Nothing against the GTi but let me put it this way...
100% of ST owners will be able to tell you anything out their car and they’ll have a huge smile on their face about it.
About 50% of GTi owners will be able to do the same and the rest won’t even know or care about the majority of its specs because they bought it just to look cool.
Ford got it right, manual or nothing. You don’t dilute a honest little hot hatch with an auto.

Well, I am quite happy with my 280 hp, 430 nm Polo GTI and have not encountered a smiling Fiesta ST driver after a drag race, or any race for that matter, so not sure what you're on about :)

I recon Fiesta is the winner. If you go for a hot hatch you want handling before comfort. Everything about the Fiesta is designed around being a hot hatch.

Have the GTI and driven the Fiesta. And the Fiesta is clearly the more track focused out the box in its stock form. But wanted an intelligent car with self parking function and adaptive cruise, for when the GF uses it😏.
Tracked it at the Nürbergring last summer and wasn't disappointed (8 years karting experience). Set a time close to the Tesla Model 3 in traffic so can't complain. Mods: after market springs 20mm lower and JB4 tuning box.
What's with all the hate on the DSG and Paddel shift? So from that logic the Ferrari 458 I drove is also boring and not a driver's car 🤔
Bought the Polo due to greater after market potential. If you don't plan to mod your car get the Fiesta you'll get most giggles for your money... If you plan on modding and adding wavetrak diff and KW Clubsport suspension, stiffer rear sway bar, IS20 hybrid (+400hp/525Nm) Milltek valved Exhaust....... The Polo is a different beast...

you can drive 6,5 sec with it but you have to use flat shift ;O)

Yes I would say the fiesta St is the winner out of the two the mount of performance u can get out of these engine is madness and the way it drives and handle is much better then the mk7 st
If only the st was available in south Africa I would got for it as my first performance car but only the polo gti is available saw I am going for that car
Choosing to compare the steel roof Fiesta with a Sunroof Polo is giving the Fiesta a free 60kg weight advantage straight off the bat. To make it a bit more even you need to strap down 3 bags of cement onto the roof of the Fiesta! Or maybe just get a Polo without the weight disadvantage.
When will these motor journalists understand? Most hot hatch buyers want a comfortable hatch with some on demand power to have some fun. Hardcore driving enthusiasts will probably go with something else anyway. I got the Polo GTI with full options because I want a practical small car that provides me with some good acceleration. I will never go with a manual because it’s just not comfortable in traffic jams and city driving. You can manually shift with the paddles anyway for some more engagement. Got them extra large click on paddles to make it easier during steering. Perfect.

Where the swift sport turbo comparisons? They're cheaper than both these cars and go just as well

Shamous they should have made this video swift sport vs fiesta st. The polo just isn't a hot hatch in my book, just a hatch with a big engine
The swift has about 60% of the power of both these cars. That's why it's not being compared
Didn't mention both of them have fake sounds where the engine sound is amplified. I guess that's what we get these days as long as nobody complains and journalists wilfully ignore it.
It all depends if you don't mind pumping a clutch for 3 hours on the M25, buy the Focus ST. If you want a wolf in sheep's clothing buy the Polo GTi+.

I love my gti 6c ,lighter then the new polo and it's manual and I think it looks more sporty as a three door
I'd take the Polo but drop all the options packs. Miss out on Led lights but keep the tartan seats. Save $10K

@@1989rs500 German cars aren't reliable. They're "well made" and by that, they use good quality materials and the drive is lovely. They don't fare well when it comes to reliability though. BMW, VW, Merc, as a group, for their price tag they are very behind in terms of reliability.

Dont think the GT can compare to these two cars, especially the ST in sportiness.
Fiesta hands down is the better car I've owned a mk7.5 st and a mk8 and both been great fun reliable and make you smile....polo is a big heavy lump with a big lump of an engine which they have been using for years about time they made there engines smaller...and the interior is shades apart from the fiesta st

He had, at least here in Germany/Europe. I own one, it is way more fun to drive. The DSG in the Polo GTI is rubbish..
I also drove the ST before ordering the GTI. And yes, the ST is a little bit more fun to drive. But for daily use? Defineteley the GTI. Although i have to say, with the stick, the Polo is pretty much fun aswell, specially where i live, near the Alpes. Both cars are made for little, curvy mountain roads. Just great great fun to throw them around the corners..

I owned my ST since 2018 and love it. Now installed stage 1 from Dreamscince and ifs even more quicker :)

Both are good cars but my concerns are a 1.5 200bhp 3 pot engine long term reliability after fords Eco-boost 1.0 3 pot problems. not sure a 3 pot engine is the future with that in mine if I had to pick I would go Polo Gti

My main criteria are comfort, dependability/reliability and service convenience/costs coupled with reasonable performance. Neither of these cars meet all the criteria. DSG low-speed issues are also a turn-off. Shame, as in many ways VW products have much to commend them.

The auto transmission in a hot hatch should be a crime.
That sticking out screen on the Ford is butt ugly. Infotainment screens should always be built into the dash. Always. It’s also a trap for dust and grime behind it that no one will ever clean.
If ever there was a comparison that warranted an Englishman with far too much gel in his silver hair, this is it.

Après +20 000kms maintenant,les crissements de tôle en terminaison de freinage sont toujours làl .Mais ceci n'est pas sans conséquence pour Ford,car à cause de ces ATE Continental,autour de moi,plus personne ne veut prendre une Ford neuve.Qui voudrait avoir,à vie,une voiture qui fait un tel bruit.
What kind of weirdo would buy a hot hatch without a manual gearbox? It isn't even a proper hot hatch without a manual. If you want a great auto car for Australia buy a secondhand Ford Falcon or V8 Commodore. Hot hatches are about wringing the performance out of a small engine in a nimble lightweight car with a manual 'box.

A hot hatch with an automatic is pointless, if that’s what you want then you’re not buying it for the enjoyment of driving which is the whole point of a hot hatch.
I see the GTi as a fashion statement and the ST is for the enthusiast.

The Polo is a typical overpriced Vw generic soapbox. It's a good car, but the only excitement it will get you is when the you take out the wallet. The Fiesta on the other hand is a real driver's car. Not there for the show, but for the fun.

Too expensive for a Fiesta. Ford should just offer the same variants as the UK being ST1, ST2 and ST3. You order it, you pay the price you want for the features you want, you get the csr you want at the same time as the rest of the world. Waiting over 2 years, telling the customer you get the features we pick and pay top price. The Mk7 was best and cheapest in class. The bang for buck small hatch. Now it's just an expensive Fiesta. They outpriced themselves here and made us wait, missing the hype train.
What a terrible review. Conclusion: There are two cars here for you to pick from and, from our extensive testing, there still are two cars here to pick from. Where are the races, the times, the laps? Nothing objective, just subjective nonsense.
