Wait was she named after the movie DEBS? A lesbian spy, named after a famously homoerotic movie about girl spies? Seems like something the show would do
I like Q-Force, but I wished they gave Buck an actual character development in the show because a 2 minute deposit of his past and tears doesn't really show how much he change from being a toxic coworker to a neutral friend, gave Stat a better backstory because I'm also curious about why she went to prison and maybe how she became a hacker, and let Twink open up about his trauma and maybe why doesn't like being called Baustien( I forgot how to spell the name and isn't that same name the boy in Neverending Story?)
According to a tumblr post by 1 of the show runners, Stat is canonically trans. Seeing as how interest in coding is a common joke among trans women, it makes sense in a funny way. That being said, if the show gets a 2nd season and her being trans turns out to be her “secret” it’ll be very disappointing
yup her va is a trans woman too! i was waiting for a trans character the whole show and only found out afterwards. there are also a couple nonbinary stereotypes they gave her character too so i kinda assumed she was trans regardless... just wouldve been nice to have some confirmation in the show :')
I’d like it better if, instead of it being her secret, she has some other secret and at some point it just goes- “*insert random line about being trans that fits with the scene*” one of them: “wow, thanks for sharing your secret with us, stat!” “yo what? that’s not a secret. it was just none of y’all business.”
It would be funny if it's something like "my biggest secret is... I have a fabric of pugs in my basement to pet them all day... [Shocked gasps]. Ah and I'm also trans >:) [fire flames and everybody clapped]"
Maybe she'll just mention it randomly without anything to do with the secret, maybe a reference to HRT like "i tried to go on HRT but i started developing these horrible ass rashes and i had to stop"(i think it would be nice to see representation of trans women who cant transition medically bc i guess it will make them feel less alone, correct me if im wrong) but the actual secret will be in a whole other episode that will maybe revolve around something greater or whatever.
I loved this show and I'm happy people are talking more about it. It honestly felt so refreshing to me as a closeted gay person in a homophobic country. Seeing the characters being so open and unapologetic about themselves really sparked some emotion in me. It was like I saw myself in the cast. Beeing surrounded by straight people most of my life, I felt so at home watching this show. I hope more people watch it so we can get a season 2
I thought it was a cool idea, but I wouldn’t say that’s “who they are”it’s more purposefully forced and I get that, in no way would anyone in real life actually act like that. But hey, great piece of satire and much better than I excepted, congrats too the animators
That's awesome that this show made you happy! I think that it is easy to forget, now that there are wider range of books and movies with more nuanced portrayals of LGBT characters available in places like the US*, how recently it was that ANY representation that wasn't 100% negative or traumatic felt like a breath of fresh air. * Not that it's where it needs to be yet, of course. But considering that its now possible to have EVERY book and movie/show I consume in a month be gay TOTALLY BY ACCIDENT...things have definitely come a long way. Which leads to having higher standards for representation.
I'd say Netflix's She-ra is the best example of a world/story where being LGBTQ+ is not only not a cause for discrimination, but is as natural and normal as being CIS or hetero. It's so nice to see characters be gay with out it dragging the story down because there's the whole dealing with a homophobic society.
"what if somebody sprains their pronoun" is probably the funniest joke in the show to me and i'm surprised you didn't comment on it. transphobes really only have two jokes and the way this one was delivered was truly the epitome of the "pronouns are weird" joke, i loved it
that was the joke that made me laugh out loud bc it absolutely nailed those sorts of ridiculous over-the-top transphobic "jokes" ppl make online in a satirical way
Honestly I hated the trailer but I always said to myself “when this comes out I’m just gonna watch it like the trailer doesn’t exist” and I did…. And I absolutely LOVED the show. I favorite part was when Mary had to seduce the guy from the mine, and when the guy asked to get married. All in all i definitely see what you mean when you say there’s too many jokes that don’t land, but I personally liked and laughed at them. Love your vids freddie!!!!
The Brokeback Mountain references... goddamn, they dedicated an entire episode to them. This show is full of great movie references: My Cousin Vinny, Princess Diaries, Brokeback Mountain, Eurovision, to name a few. My favorite was the ongoing one about the princess of "Genorvia"
Let's not forget how bad the advertising was for Bojack Horseman. I'm not saying Q-Force is anywhere near as good as Bojack, but both are good examples of marketing doing a show dirty.
I believe that Stat is trans because it's a huge stereotype for trans women to be into computers (mainly coding) and also her VA is trans so it would make a lot of sense considering this show does use a lot of real life stereotypes
I think she's les because her computer simulated lover was female where as if she was mtf then most likely her lover would have been male lol most likely
@@batgrrrlcock yeah. Sexuality and gender identity are two different things. My flatmate and friend is a trans woman who is attracted to other woman. She also works in IT XD
I think it was mentioned in an interview somewhere that Stat was inspired by the writer's friend who is a trans goth, so I have a feeling they'll reveal that she's trans at some point, but I don't understand why they would hype that up as some big secret given the atmosphere of the show.
I hope they have some other big secret for her? Bc why else would she be in Q-force as one of the LGBTQ members? (Unless she was wlw or ace-spec) honestly I just want a trans character who isn’t centered purely around their transness. Im tired of it :(
I kind of feel they'd do a... Someone gets shocked by this revelation Q force is confused because so what? To them, it's not important and stat is stat, whether or not they knew
@@276acc7 i mean i'm assuming you've watched q force and it isnt a spoiler but stat is interested in women? she has that ai gf and flirted with that evil blonde lady..
@@276acc7 Stat's attracted to women so she is queer and trans, plus it's never even mentioned in the show that she's trans, so her character isn't "centred purely around their transness". Also even if she was straight she's still LGBTQ+ so it would make sense for her to be part of the team
thank you for the note about lesbians not being portrayed as masculine!! i see so many people say the "all lesbian representation is butch! :(" line, and it's so frustrating because like, no, not exactly...
right!!! like point me in the direction of all this butch rep that ppl keep complaining is oversaturating lesbian media. i was so happy to see that this show had butch/butch wives!
All *explicitly derogatory representation is butch, and therefor the only REAL representation. If the gays aren't suffering, does it count? There, fixed it ❤ But, I mean if I were a lesbian, I'd pretend femme lesbians had no representation at all too given the nature of *why* it happens more predominantly in general media. That comes with some pretty heavy baggage, but femmes still out number the butch at the end of the day.
I love how they handled debs nudity in this show too. I genuinely can't remember the last time a person of her size being nude wasn't treated as a chance to make fun of their body.
Wait really? I think the closest thing for me would be archer with the character pam hoovey but even then she is a badass sexual deviant who can essentially get any guy/gal because of how confident she is.
@@thefakecat8340 i could never really get into archer too much becuase of a joke they made where a pr0stitue is killed or dies and archer is like " it's ok it's not like she was a person " or something so i missed a lot of pam stuff
@@JaneDoe-po4gu they sometimes acknowledge how dark their jokes can get but jot extensively. Still its not for everyone just like how q-force isnt for everyone like me
Fun fact: V’s hyper specific knowledge of 1964 Chevrolet's is actually a direct reference to the movie My Cousin Vinny! Its a hilarious court drama about a New York lawyer defending his cousin in a small town in like Alabama, I highly recommend :)
Lol when that seen played on the screen a little light lit up from the back of my head saying "hey wasn't that from a movie I've seen before" idk how in gods name I remembered that.
The closest I got to understanding the H note thing is that there is no H note in the musical alphabet, so you hit a note so high that you break the laws of physics. That's how I understood it anyway.
It could also be because B natural which was sometimes referred to as the H note in German music writing (B-flat became B) which is why Bach could play BACH on the piano.
The naked couple in Steve’s Airbnb are supposed to be Norwegian/Swedish i think? It’s kinda a stereotype that ppl from that region are cool w being naked around ppl & really like saunas & stuff, like the family from Frozen
I've been to both countries, and you legit see people sunbathing, doing chores, and bathing in the local lake in their underwear or even topless if it is warm outside. I wish the US was like that.
On the one hand, there aren't many shows with lesbians of color, especially studs. Even though my lesbian identity wasn't represented (no trans and non-binary lesbians) it was still nice to see some of the positive representation. On the other, no trans characters?! Like I'm not saying the bisexual getting murdered was good representation but why TF call it Q-force when it's mostly about white gay men? Like I'm sure there's gonna be some people claiming there's a ton of lesbian representation in media (the little rep we get is white lesbians and often under male-gaze. The L word is for white women) but there's not. However the fact that that's the only way the show really did anything in terms of representation is disappointing. They basically excluded the B and completely excluded the T. No one even says something like "f it I'm queer" so everyone is neatly organized under a labeled category so they should have just called it Gay Force
ONE HOUR JUST FOR A SEASON WITH A FEW EPISODES? Note, I did not watch the entire vid when writing this, I will watch this tomorrow. I- Actually kinda loved Q-Force, I stopped watching at episode 4 but Im planning to watch it again!
@Yukio Im just so surprised because I saw other commentary YTbers discussing shows that have so many seasons or so many episodes in one season and their vids are between 35-50 mins And this one is just whew
I don’t really care about watching the show and stuff like that but I’m just glad it looks nice. I swear all the Netflix adult animations (even the good ones) look atrocious. The style is interesting and semi-nice looking from what I’ve seen.
I've never been able to watch an hour long video of one topic all the way through before but the way you present things is awesome- Plus, I couldn't stop staring at your necklace, it was confusing me xoendosk
i honetly really loved this show. i binged it all in one day. it was fun and nice to see some LGBTQIA+ representation done in a funny, action packed, adult way. personally, i'm tired of all the coming out plots and unhappy endings so this was refreshing. sure it has some flaws but what show doesn't. def recommend!
okay so ace rep would be great but part of me would be kind of bothered by it, since "her most romantic relationship was with the robot" just doesnt sit right, considering how many ace people get called robots, or unfeeling, etc. idk, ace rep would be nice, but thats kind of a yikes on that note, kinda sad that sex scenes/nudity make me uncomfortable because i kinda wanna watch this now :/
Also ace but I disagree. If she were the robot I’d hate it but she’s not so I don’t think that trope applies. Feels like reaching IMO. I mean I get it. They do that all the time and it can be uncomfortable but i think it’d be pretty fun for the asexual to be involved with the robot. Like satire of that trope.
@@mardalfossen thats a good point, i hadnt really thought about that interpretation. i still dont particularly like the idea, but i understand your line of thinking for it
I agree. I was worried Stat’s secret would be her being ace. They kinda play her up as being a bit robotic which is so tiring considering how often us aces get the “robotic non-human” stereotype tied to us. I was ok with the nudity, but the sex scenes were a bit more graphic than I anticipated and were sudden.
@@flurryheart3739 not only that but like. They give each other looks right before it happens so you can just skip and or turn down the volume and look away
I thought it ironically lacked non-binary, trans, ace and BISEXUAL representation. Like i get that they cant fit everything into just one season and that they cant just add characters as a means to tic the checklist. I aint even BI but if they focussed on the stereotypes only (which i am not complaining about as they represented them thoroughly) they also should've included a person neither _just_ gay or _just_ lesbian. I dunno. It just stuck out after watching the whole series....
Ik its bad that they didnt mention this in the show itself, but according to someone who worked on the show, stat is actually a trans woman. But otherwise yeah, i do wish they had more rep outside of just gay and lesbian
And I've noticed it as a trend especially with American based live action queer content. They tout is as LGBTQ+ shows but mainly focus on gay, lesbian or occasionally trans characters and don't spotlight bisexual, pansexual, non binary asexual or aromantic characters. I'm glad there's a push for more content in the community but there's such a hyperfocus on only certain aspects of it compared to others. Like at least most bi rep can be found with cartoon characters like Korra, Luz, Marcelline and Princess Bubblegum but the only well known ace rep in visual media is Todd from Bojack Horseman considering Jughead's asexuality got erased.
Wow this comments section is making me feel OLD realizing that NO ONE recognized V’s answer to that trivia question as mechanic queen and legend Marissa Tomei’s defense statement in My Cousin Vinny!! Lovely video, as always!! 🏳️🌈💖💜💙
Oh my god! I just asked if I was crazy and posted a link to the scene haha. I'm right there with you! Here's the scene if anyone wants it: th-cam.com/video/3nGQLQF1b6I/w-d-xo.html
As a Bisexual I LOVED this show. I cried a bit once or twice just seeing characters casually being themselves and it didn't shove that they're gay in our face (aside from Twink but that's a different story). It's refreshing to see a lesbian with her wife and not be killed. I understand the hate but it's still a good watch for me
I really don't think it was that bad I kind of enjoyed it. I would have enjoyed it a lot more if not for the the cliches and stereotypes but I think it supposed to be satire. I think its supposed to satirise the stereotypes portrayed onto queer people. I honestly don't think it's so bad it brings shame to the queer community, I'd honestly watch another season.
I had a long conversation with my ex-girlfriend's mom one time for saying some stuff about not wanting to see gay men kiss or be intimate, even though her daughter isn't straight and she herself is a bi woman. I kinda called her out because I just couldn't believe what I was hearing come out of this woman's mouth. It is just maddening to hear people say things like that and think it is totally fine.
I'm halfway into watching Q-Force, and I honestly love it. Its a fun, parody of the spy genre with a gay twist. Its not a social commentary, its not meant to be some revolutionary liberation film series, its just a fun show. It does play on stereotypes, but big surprise, that's how comedy works, poke fun at what even the gay community laughs at itself about.
I definitely feel like this show will probably get better throughout the next seasons if they get one. This 1st season was probably just a layout?? Of what to expect from the show. Im sure they'll branch off and stuff in the future
I kinda guessed that they wouldnt be able to represent as much people and have a too deep story just for one season. I hope we get more represenation. Like maybe new members or smthmg that would be cool.
I only watched 3 episodes, but I think it’s pretty solid. It’s nothing amazing, but I kinda liked it. I’m still kinda iffy on Twink and I absolutely can’t stand Buck, but Mary, Stat, Deb, and even V are pretty good. I think Stat might be my favorite, mostly because emo-type characters are almost always some of my favorite characters.
It's honestly a very fair review. It was better than I expected. Not great, but not bad either. It can be a little generic, and I have some gripes with it. I'm hoping a second season can fix these problems.

Honestly, let's hope seeing this show was actually funny and gave plenty of work to a lot of people of the comunity stop everybody from hating without any knowledge on what they're hating on. It's like hating is the best thing we have to do nowadays...
I was so confused about how much ppl hated it! No one in their sane mind would do a stereotyped serie WITHOUT being sarcastic, the whole point is pushing the stereotype enough for anyone to (supposedly...) take it seriously but not that far to maybe identify with some extremes versions of the stereotype I honestly enjoyed it a lot
I watched q-force, and it was good. I liked it, but as you said, it would've been nice for all of the characters to have better development. Also, Desk's name is Louisa.
Im so glad we're all coming out as q force fans. There was like one or two corny things/ eps but I sincerely loved it. I can't wait for the next season.
Not going to lie, I came from a country thats still strongly anti LGBTQIA, I would say that the discussion of homophobia should still be present in queer media. Not required. Just that its free reign. Because we still have people like Chunley in more pro LGBTQIA countries like the USA in positions like his.
I agree. I’m from the southern USA and grew up in the foster care system. I experienced loads of homophobia/queer phobia and just general invalidation. The reality is that society is homophobic/queer phobic. Maybe one day it won’t be, but to depict a world in which it isn’t present or discussed in some form is an escapist fantasy, or at least an idealist’s privileged, bubble microcosm. Queer happiness 10000% exists, but we can’t pretend we aren’t still othered.
@@forrestwilson4394this 100%. I totally respect people who want queer media that's mostly squeaky clean of homophobia, we need an escape just like straight people. But also, it just doesn't sit right with me when they have 0 homophobic undertones in characters, no internalized homophobia, no fear, nothing. I want to feel seen, and seeing characters like me go through the same hard ships but still at the end of the day go "no, fuck what they say" is really empowering. But to each their own, I've heard both sides and I think they're very valid perspectives, but I agree that it shouldn't be shunned just as it shouldn't be forced.
Ok I’m just going to rant a bit I liked the show but one thing that really bothered me was: why would you call a show Q-force, like Queer force, a word that is supposed to represent all the LGBT+ community, and have the main characters be two straight people (V and buck) two gay men and two lesbian women? If the show was created with the intend of having more representation it really failed, the only bi character is immediately killed off, ace, aro, pan, non-binary, trans, omni, poly or whatever other sexualities weren’t represented in the show at all. I guess it just angers me, as a panromantic asexual person that even in a show made for representation they just pretend we don’t exist Edit: I think many people misinterpreted my comment, I’m not asking for a panromantic asexual character (even tho that would be nice) and I’m not asking for the show to represent all sexualities, I’m saying that if you are gonna market a show as super inclusive and representative, it should have more sexualities than just gay, lesbian and straight.
Hard agree. Demisexual biromantic here, as well as bigender, I didn’t even really get a grain of representation from a show claiming to be “inclusive” during marketing. Honestly I was afraid Stat’s big secret was gonna be her being asexual and tying into a robotic non-human stereotype.
You expected them to make how many characters then? It’s still representation. To be fair panromantic asexual is a new term so I wouldn’t have expected much of that anyways 💀
I also noticed that as a bi person. They just talk about gays and lesbians the whole time pretty much. There isn’t really representation for the other parts of the community. I’m glad you mentioned this.
My bf and I watched the episodes together and enjoyed every single one. Wish there was more bi representation cause I personally dealt with that but I loved the show. Plus I don’t act at all as feminine as the cast do which was hard for me to relate to one super hard.
Kind of off topic but usually to avoid writing stereotypes in characters, I flesh out the character's personalities before I decide their sexuality- idk if I'm doing this right
It makes sense. For me, when i write, i have a person fully fleshed out and a vague idea of the topic i'll focus on for a portion of the story, building things out from there. And sometimes their sexuality is actually important enough that it is part of the groundwork. Although even then it changes a bit as the characters become more real for me. For instance, i have a story where the main character (mc) is a demisexual, but before they had a chance to really understand themselves, they ended up in a bad (read abusive) relationship as the premise. The story itself is mc realizing that's not what relationships are meant to be like and in opening up to someone else, finds that they *can* feel attraction and love towards people. But, like, add magic and stuff because i write to escape reality. Then again, i admit that sometimes (more often than not) my writing is my trying to feel out my own sexuality, so [shrug].
@@catelynh1020 actually, same. I usually start writing from one topic or person. I kinda flesh things out from there, building on their backstory and personality, and sometimes their backstory explains why a character of mine thinks or acts the way they do. I'm writing a story where the MC is Aroace, just cause she ended up like that, and I thought it fit her. Also, in the story that she's in, love really isn't all that important, so I don't focus on it all that much. I also think that having a character in a story purely for representation just seems so fake, and I don't want to end up writing like that.
@@arandomavocado6021 oh, you are sooo right. Throwing something in merely for representation is what's going to make people upset. Sounds like you're doing alright with your stories. Keep it up. 👍

I actually thoroughly enjoyed the show. It felt like laughing with someone, and not at someone, yaknow? I do wish they fleshed the characters out a tad bit more but I understand that a second season is not guaranteed so they might have had to cram.

Yep... thought the exact thing.
Ok I’m just going to rant a bit
I liked the show but one thing that really bothered me was: why would you call a show Q-force, like Queer force, a word that is supposed to represent all the LGBT+ community, and have the main characters be two straight people (V and buck) two gay men and two lesbian women? If the show was created with the intend of having more representation it really failed, the only bi character is immediately killed off, ace, aro, pan, non-binary, trans, omni, poly or whatever other sexualities weren’t represented in the show at all. I guess it just angers me, as a panromantic asexual person that even in a show made for representation they just pretend we don’t exist
Edit: I think many people misinterpreted my comment, I’m not asking for a panromantic asexual character (even tho that would be nice) and I’m not asking for the show to represent all sexualities, I’m saying that if you are gonna market a show as super inclusive and representative, it should have more sexualities than just gay, lesbian and straight.
I agree but i think Stat might be trans. Not sure if ppl said that just bc her VA is trans
Yeah I felt the same way as a bi/pan trans person. Just really lacking in lgbtq rep
The eye shadow is stunning. 🤍
I couldn’t take the background seriously, when Mushu’s mustache is over his eyes xd
I also think that having a character in a story purely for representation just seems so fake, and I don't want to end up writing like that.

by the way, 17:47 when she answers the last question, my dad, who knows a lot about cars, overheard this part and can confirm that her answer is completely corrcet.
I LOVE THE MAKEUP SM
WHERE DID FREDERIC GET HIS TOP ITS SO CUTE
He has outfit links in the description. He does this in a lot of his video so if you see something you like in a video you can look at it :) I think some of the older videos might not have them though, but still worth looking just in case
@@notedfynn58 Thank you!!
@@trblology No problem! :)
I actually adore your look, the eyeshadow is gorgeous and that shirt is so cute! The earrings too- god you are killing it!
Hecc and then you add the necklace- stunning
Ironically partially watching this made me watched the show for myself before finishing the rest of the vid. I liked this show much more than i thought i would. Hilarious and dont mind if they make more like this. The trailer REALLY dont do it justice. A lot of Stat’s lines cracked my shit up! 😆
OMG I LOVED the show!!! like seriously I hope they make a season 2 because it totally has the potential to like be improved and stuff! For real it made me giggle so much and I totally saw all the troupes and the stereotypes so funny but so real the people that have problems with the stereotypes are usually the type the stereotype is making fun of, otherwise it wouldn't piss you off like duh! The plot was great because it was just like a real show, a huge arch with mini side storylines that all conclude at the end of the series and a huge reveal at the end with a big bad. UGH!! it was legits one of my faves and I rewatched it 3 times already.
When V knows the last trivia question, it’s a reference to the movie My Cousin Vinny.
I loved that bit
19:38 She’s using an M16 as a prosthetic leg. It’s probably a reference to Planet Terror.
"One hot and one... funny" *cuts to two almost identically drawn women, who both have perfect hourglass figures but one is literally just slightly wider and has a slightly lighter skin tone* ??
yeah that threw me off
think their similarity is purposeful to show u how fuckin dense people can be, idk
The effort u put into this...lets appreciate this love u Frederic ❤❤❤
"Debra Winger has been in enough movies"
Me, a millenials: *sleep*
"Jenna Marbles is overrated"
Me: *un-grayscaled*

Hello, this is my first time seeing this channel, I'm hypersensitive to a lot of frequencies and this make listening to voices hell, however, your voice is soothing, also your makeup is so good :b
The Chevy engine trivia is a reference to my cousin Vinny, where ms.vito is questioned about her expertise on cars.
I've been waiting for this for TOO long
