Imogen was added for a bit of drama, bc tv, and to be a friend to Nick that wasn't "one of the boys." Isaac was a replacement for a character who was apart of one of Alice's other books. @@inkubator320 I didn’t say it was a problem to represent it. I said I PERSONALLY appreciated that it wasn’t directly shown in THIS show, because I am tired and I wanted to relax watching a show and feel represented without having to deal with seeing transphobia directly.
I think it's important to show transphobia because it's a real issue we deal with, but we've seen that in pretty much every other case when a Trans person actually was in popular media, so this show was a nice change.
Also I don’t think sensitity is a bad thing, I think it's good to be sensetive to the world around you, it's brave to show that sensitity openly and usefull for other people to reflect on how they act and see the world as well, isn’t it important to hear different opinions from people with perspectives different from your own?
I'm glad that I am a sensitive person even if that means I get hurt easier, I can deal with feeling hurt, that doesn't mean I wouldn’t tell people when I'm hurting or they’ve hurt me and I don’t think that's an issue or something I should stop doing.

Bit of a spoiler (going off the webcomic), but I love how Tao is confirmed to also be in love with Elle without having him have a crisis about his sexuality. People and shows like to make a whole storyline where the straight character starts to question their identity because they're attracted to a trans person, but Heartstopper doesn't do that. Elle is unquestionably a girl and Tao is straight. There's no "but what if?" or "what does this mean?". He likes a girl. That's all.

THIS! The only scenario where someone should question their sexuality to think they could be gay is if they crush on someone transitioning to their same gender!
I lost all romantic interest in my friend when he told me he was a boy. It just goes to show, if you truly respect someone's identity, it only effects your sexuality if you still like them after transition. You can't very well be a lesbian if you like a man, just as you can't be gay and like a woman! If you do still like the person, you are either on the bi spectrum or transphobic! Self reflection is important, everyone.

I'm gonna be honest, the heartstopper comic was a lifesaver for me. I found it at a time where I was still having a really hard time with accepting myself and when my family was having a hard time doing the same. In a way, it gave me hope. The show was amazing to me, but I could be biased. I really enjoyed the casting and style of the show, and the fact that it was faithful to the comic so much that I could literally quote some lines as they were said on screen was pretty cool, at least to me. I think, at the very least, heartstopper is good because it's a show where there isn't unnecessary suffering or dark themes. Of course those kinds of shows can be good, but eventually, it is nice to see a show with realistic expectations and good portrayal without so much death and angst.

What I love about this show, and you said this, is that it’s just so normal. It feels like a normal high school romance. It feels like normal people living normal lives. And that’s makes it’s special is cause it’s normalizing just normal lgbtq teens doing their thing and this makes being a part of the lgbtq community a normal thing and not some big, rebellious, out there act. I’m gay but I don’t want it to be like this big defining trait about me. It’s part of me and I won’t deny it but I have no desire to make my whole personality revolve around it. I just wanna do me. So many other shows I think over-do being lgbtq and make those characters so shallow and boring and this show does not do that. Especially with Elle. I, nor any of my friends who have watched the show, didn’t catch on that she was trans until way later in the season and I love that. By that point, everyone loves Elle cause she’s amazing and you’re like “oh she’s also trans, ok cool.” And that’s it. She’s just doing her thing, living her life, and acting as if it’s just a normal thing that doesn’t define her and that’s because that’s exactly what it is. The show just normalizes it all and I so appreciate that.

The main reason for people hating cis actors playing trans roles is it perpetuates the idea that transness is "dressing up" or "playing pretend". Especially when it's a trans femme character. If a cis man is playing a trans woman people will see that character is actually a man dressing up. When the cis male actor goes up and accepts the award for their trans role you see them as a man. Also when it's a cis actor they have to 'Play up' the transness.

Heartstopper killed me with its utter cuteness, wholesomeness and actual communication! 😍 there is no "i'm bottling all my emotions up, lashing out to everyone who loves me and most definititely can help me and wallow in self pity". Which is so refreshing!
Omg i totally cracked up when you put on the beanie😂 totally tao! Also i love your earrings, they're super cute!

I heard about this show on TikTok, and I'm simply a person who dislikes things when they're hyped up. Ever since I was a child I just automatically disliked things that were popular. So I tried to stay away from heartstopper and told myself maybe I'll watch it after the hype is over. Then, a few days later, my mom and I had watched a movie (I think it was Legally Blonde actually) and heartstopper got recommended at the end and my mom was like "come on, we can watch the first episode and turn it off if you don't like it". So I was like "okay, if you insist", and we started watching the show. I really was skeptic as frick, I didn't *want* to like this show, if it was problematic I would've immediately turned it off, and if the romance got on my nerves I would've also turned it off immediately.
But look at me an episode later, I was 100% invested along with my mom, and now after watching the first season till the end it's one of my favorite shows. It's a little fast paced for me personally but other than that, they handled everything so perfectly. Like damn. I cannot say how much I love this show. I've also started reading the webtoon, in which I think the social anx¡ety Charlie has is portrayed a little better, but the show and the webtoon are both amazing in their own way, the decisions they made in the show that changed from the webtoon were very understandable, and as someone who has been reading webtoon for years it was really cool to see a webtoon become something so famous and well made. I didn't think big companies were capable of making shows without promoting sex¡sm or just being problematic.
I'm really thankful this show exists and it will hold a place in my heart forever. (Even if the next seasons suck, which I really hope they don't)
Oh, also a thing that suprised me in a good way was that the girl who had a crush on Nick didn't end up being an antagonist! I thought that would happen and was so annoyed cause I hate that cliche, but then it didn't! And yeah, I was just really relieved.

I was so happy when I found heartstopper in the public library (the show is based on the graphic novel, I mean obv) but they only had the 1st and 2nd :( that was my introduction to heartstopper and now they have a show! It’s so nice seeing gay people represented as normal and not sexualized like most media. It’s just a sweet romance story

Nick questioning his sexuality was very relatable to me. I’m bi too and I remember questioning it alone at my parents house in the basement. It’s overwhelming and I felt worried about what it means to me and how those I care would take it. And I felt guilty due to religion and didn’t know how to accept it. I’m happy to now say I’m out without guilt or worry

heartstopper is an adaption of a webcomic/graphic novel by alice oseman (who co-directed and wrote the screen-play) that i'd definitely recommend, it's free to read on tapas. also would recommend their other books too, especially radio silence for sure

As someone who came out as gay in middle school as gay, got bullied and got into a spiral of intense grooming it is so refreshing to see such a positive representation of queer life. But it made me cry every episode because I has made me realize how fucked up my childhood actually was

i’ve watched this show 12 times and counting. i love that it’s based off of a webtoon and i love that it’s so similar to the webtoon. it’s so refreshing to see actual representation that doesn’t give me the ick with how sexualized the “highschoolers” are. it’s also great that the people who play the highschoolers in this show are actually young and fresh out of school, or still in school. it is so well done and i’m so excited to get new seasons!

As someone who is coming to terms with being bisexual, nicks whole story was just super relatable to me? I found myself empathizing a lot with him idk ig it just made me feel really good that there was that representation of the process of coming out and coming to terms with sexuality :)

ok now that i’ve watched the whole video, prepare yourself for this comment that has no right being this long:
    - all the actors who portray the main characters are teenagers, or were at the time of filming. joe locke (charlie) and nick nelson (kit connor) are 18 rn, taking their a levels at the moment. the youngest actor was the guy who played harry, cormac hyde-corrin, who was 16 at the time of filming
    - all the characters in the show are 14-16, so i’m very glad they didn’t show them having sex!
    - highly recommend the graphic novels, available for free on tumblr and tapas! alice oseman is currently on a mental health break from uploading pages bc they’ve actually been working nonstop since they were 17 (alice’s pronouns are she/they btw)
    - the characters nick and charlie actually originated from alice’s first novel (published when she was 19) called “solitaire,” which focuses on charlie’s older sister, tori (the one who pops up in the show with her glass of lemonade. absolute icon, i love her). heartstopper takes place a year before solitaire
    - alice oseman wrote the scripts for all 8 episodes, and was heavily involved in pretty much every aspect of making the show. she was on set every day during filming, and that’s why this show is such a faithful adaptation
    - you’re right that a lot of queer people were behind the making of the show! alice identifies as aromantic asexual (they wrote an incredible book called “loveless” featuring a protagonist coming to terms with her aroace identity), and lots of the cast and crew are also part of the lgbtq+ community. not all of them have said specifically what their sexuality is, and kit connor (nick) has stated that he feels uncomfortable when people speculate about it, so let’s not do that (fun fact: kit also portrayed young elton john in rocketman)
    - there is a thing called the osemanverse, which basically includes all of alice’s books! all of her novels connect in some way or another, so there are always easter eggs. the most closely related books are solitaire and radio silence, with solitaire characters actually making cameos in radio silence
    - as i’m sure you can imagine, sebastian croft, who plays ben hope, is absolutely nothing like his character. he seems like literally the sweetest guy in the world
    - kizzy edgell, who plays darcy, goes by they/them pronouns!
and that’s all for now lol. the osemanverse has overtaken my life, and i’m so glad it’s reached a wider audience!

I've never realted to a coming out story more than Nick's.. honestly I still cry when I think back to the time that I though I was broken and how many gay tests I took that told me I was 50/50. The writers really did something with Nick
