been fighting my '15 883xl super low for months now trying to get the baffles out. I got to the point of shopping for new exhaust until i saw this video. tried everything youtube had to offer. your solution finally made it work! I used a dremel with the black cutoff wheels. took a lot of wheels but finally got it done! finished about 9pm and can't wait to hear it fire up on my way to PT in the morning! can't tell you thanks enough!
+Patrick Syring Hi Patrick, thank for your kind words buddy, and good going getting them done, its a lot of work..but hey, a pair of free loud pipes for your Harley....that has to be worth it aye... hope they sound awesome... cheers, Del.
Thanks mate. Finished the exhaust mod. Sounds amazingly like V&H pipes. such a deep guttural sound. Took my time and found 4 baffles for 20 dollars. So spent 20$ (USA) on baffles & 4 hrs work. I lost roughly bout a mile per gallon, so less than 5 miles per tank. So worth the time effort and $$. 2 thumbs up, this guy right here !!
at last a sportster again and she sounds fantastic mate, it's great to see you working on the harleys, yer making my mornings again, best wishes, Alan.
+alan bailey Glad we brighten your day buddy, gotta few maintenance jobs coming up, waiting for some parts and like you say, it's great to have a Harley back in the stable !
I just finished the exhaust mod on my new 2016 Iron XL883N and it is beyond awesome in the sound with the new V & H baffles and the mid range power is incredible without any special tuning needed. I tried cutting the tips of the exhaust with a high power dremel but gave up because the metal is just too heavy to cut through. It would work but you will need a lot of cutting wheels but I used my grinder similar to the one you used and cut right through it like butter. Great instruction video and I really appreciate the pro mod which saved me tons of money.
Hey buddy, welcome to your horse power lol ! Doesn't it feel good to set it free?? When Harley sell that bike all the ponies are there, they are just chained up in the stable, all you've done is open the door! The reason it works without any other mods, is that the ECU on a modern Sportster is tuned to be the way you experience it now, then they just choke it up with 1/2ton of baffling to placate the tree huggers... so you can understand that it is simplicity itself to just unplug the bung and enjoy the power! Just a little warning though, power is addictive, and an 883 may impress you now, but it's comparative, swap two pistons and add a Pro-Tuner, and you will gain 30% more power than you currently have, mid-range grunt will seriously make you chuckle! And even beyond that, there are more and more mods you can do... one of the reasons H-D closed down Buell was because the power being achieved from those Sportster engines was embarrassing the regular Harleys and killing sales... your engine has so much potential, all you've done is un-lock 10% of it ! Happy riding, take care, Del
+Will Service Thanks Will...no major surgery, its too much fun to ride as it is.. most bobber/chopper/brat/cafe bikes are harder to ride than this, so the street tracker style gives me lots of scope....more tom come, hope this will inspire a few owners to do thier own.. thank for watching.. Del.
What a superb solution Del! How many of us have a set of perfectly good brand new stock pipes at home gathering dust (which we already paid for). I absolutely love this and the method. Brilliant!
+xFWWONGx Thanks mate, hope it can help a few people make use of those old pipes they have in the loft...they're pretty much worthless anyway. so why not..!!
Wow. Awesome modification. I am going to do this with my 2016. I would buy a separate set of mufflers but since they are black instead of chrome they don't seem to be readily available or cheap. I can still do this mod for around 100 bucks instead of buying the black V and H for almost 400. This seems to make so much more sense than the other videos where people just hollow out the muffler. New subscriber who is going to check out a bunch of your other videos. Thanks!!!
Really enjoyed this & love the tips you continue to hand down. Down to you I have had the confidence to do everything on my bike myself. Even 1 week away from my MOT I noticed a leak had developed on my front left fork seal. I re-watched your video on it & got the job done without any dramas. I doubt my bike would be on the road if it weren't for you.
+MacBegbie Ayup Mac, thanks buddy, that's really kind... and am so glad we've been such an inspiration... good luck with your MOT... let us know how it goes!
Wicked Skills!!!!!!!! I could never do this. So glad you both have another Harley in the garage! Del, you are the best!!!! Penny included, of course!!!!!!
+rockbay79 Hi Scott & Debby, good to hear from you both... we thought the Harley's return would interest you, there are no skills really involved in this, just cut the end of and bolt a baffle in to it... how hard can it be lol !
+Moonfleet41 The sign of a true professional, is one that can take a difficult task, and make it appear simple. You do this all the time! How hard can it be? I'm sure Jimi Hendrix said the same thing about playing the guitar! Just saying......
Excellent Vid for a custom exhaust with stock parts. Used a set of V&H tapered baffles with aftermarket packing(2packs) on a 2018 Sportster 48. Burned in the packing so the masking tape would melt before a long ride. Installed a set of DK Thunder Torque inserts. Sounds like a $500 exhaust! Thanks Delboy!
Thank you for sharing your experience sir, im glad the procedure worked for you, and yeah, how cool is it to have an exhaust that sounds perfect for cheap money..! Take care and enjoy your bike.. Del.
Absolutely the best Harley exhaust mod on here. Everything I've seen involves a hole saw and a poor result. Top stuff and it worked like a charm. PS I think Penny has a thing for loud exhausts!
Hi!! thanks a lot for these detailed instructions. My baffle removal is in progress, because made the cut at 3 inches and the baffle didn't came out in my harley fatbob 2017. The process is almost the same with this little difference, I will cut 1 inch more to complete the process. Thanks again and keep with make these useful videos!
Hi Brandon, its not kids falling off their skate boards or angry chavs road raging each other....but biker videos are a niche on TH-cam, so it'll always be less than the viral stuff..! Thanks for your kind words brother.. Del.
Although im reasonably adept with the spanners i would never have attempted this without seeing your vid Delboy so many thanks for the time you take , I did my 2014 883superlow yesterday and bloody hell what a noise ,totally transforms it , so glad i took your advice and ordered another set of factory silencers for £45 coz i may need them for m.o.t . I actually ordered wrong size of V&H baffles i got the 10 inch short ones but managed to Macgyver them in , only thing is when out on road at 60 noise is great but when you close off throttle there is a lot of popping and its really loud in town im guessing its coz the baffles are still a good 6inch short of the end of silencer and the sound is getting bounced around in there, Thinking of cutting a piece of the original baffle and welding it on to the V&H ones Macgyver style to make it longer also for anyone doing the same model there is no balance pipe gasket to worry about as its not on the silencer but is already in situ before the silencer . Again many thanks for the tutorial Del and keep up the entertaining videos which are a lot better than most of the crap on tv .
Fantastic video! Explains everything in a way that made it seem very easy to do at home. I have a 2021 Harley 883. I ordered some Vance and Hines big shot baffles for around 40 dollars a piece. They were a little short so I had a local exhaust shop make me a couple of extensions to get them to sit closer to the end where I could get the set screw in. Everything fit in nicely, no rattling around and most importantly, the bike sounds amazing!! Thank you for the inspiration!
D & P - little HOG sounds wonderful! Appreciate the tips from wrapping the washers in masking tape for stacking to loosening the bolts at the front of the exhaust system to prevent a possible snap - great bits of knowledge. Thanks for sharing! EW :)
Good way to avoid paying for a $600 set of pipes that sound exactly the same. I'll be doing this to my 2014 iron. Sounds so much better than punching them out , great job and love the new bike.
+Aaron Cauble Too right buddy, punching them out leaves half the cap material inside, that makes them run hot and causes popping on shut down, plus they are quite high pitched too and it's all about the deep tone !
nice to see a recycle mod and doesnt break the bank...great skill mate... just fixed sticky throttle on wee strom 10 years of crud on linkages threw in new plugs n air filter 10 years of crud again!! going on mega hours for a couple of months...but have eye on new zorst so should pan out...
This is going to be a big help with a project I'm working on. I'm going to shorten a Milwaukee 8 muffler to use on a homemade 2-1 exhaust on a early Softail.
Far out, Man! That was pretty neat! I did something similar on my 06 XL883. This was before they used the catalytic converter. But there was a solid metal baffle going across the main hole in the muffler to make all the exhaust gases go thru the fiberglass. My mechanic took a 1 3/4" [not sure about this exact size] hole saw which he welded onto a 3/8" shaft 18" long so it would reach the baffle. He'd chuck it up in his 3/8" hand drill and cut the baffle out! The stock mufflers would then have a nice throaty roar considerably louder then stock but wouldn't be obnoxious like straight pipes. Good Show!
Thank for sharing that Kerwin, i love to hear about other riders projects, it all works in different ways aye.. have a good weekend buddy, and ride safe.. Del.
Del and Penn its been quite a while but I wanted to say that as always your knowledge and experience make all of your videos educational and monstrously entertaining. I have been binge watching to catch up and am loving every minute. Great sound on that muffler and you sir are a mad genius when it comes to tips and tricks! Love the union jack pads and the farkles on the Bonneville. thank you for a great channel!
Just caught up on the last couple of videos, congratulations on the new bike. The bike already sounds a lot nicer, looking forward to seeing what you have planned for it.
+englishandproud11 Thanks mate...first video done, just needed to make it sound right while i decide what i want to make of it... thanks for watching.. Del.
just did this mod today on the wifes 1200 sportster low. thanks for the info man saved me quite a few bucks! also added a PC5 the bikes alive now!!!! see how happy she is when we go for a ride tomorrow
I know this is an old video but it saved me haha. Every video I've watched showed you cut it with a hole saw and bam it comes out. I just cut mine with a hole saw and it would not budge 😅 I couldn't figure it out till this video. Thanks!
Glad it helped you, the hole saw method doesn't remove them, it just wrecks them internally and screws up the gas flow without making them much louder!
PLEASE DON'T CUT ANY LARGER THAN INDICATED, saving the wadding is irrelevant, you can just replace it, if necessary, but the taper MUST reduce to the size indicated in this video to achieve some level of back pressure - if you cut any larger, by cutting further forward, you will start to cause problems.... glad it worked for you, enjoy the new voice! All the best, Del
Moonfleet41 I had no idea it would cause this type of issue. I edited my post to avoid confusion for others. Thank you very much for that information. Always nice to be informed. I am very excited to see how it sounds, although its going on a Yamaha XS650 so it may sound just a tad different. ha-ha
Clever, simply clever! That dimped area at the end is probably from welding the tapered pipe. Really some good advices for the process. I hope you don't mind me saying this, but I do like Pennys giggle! Tata!
And one more question. If the baffle wrap is going to get blown out anyway will that affect anything or just get louder? Does it necessarily need wrapped? Does it need to be wrapped again every so often?
Hey John, yeah watch out for the assassins buddy... they're out there waitin for yah.... and on top of that, i bet you spend 3 months of the year under snow too..?
Bloody genius....you're da man....love your videos, just refilled the brake fluid on my new XL1200C that I bought, 2011 but 4k km on it (in Spain now, born n bred in Brighton) so only needed fluid changes, used your video to do it, so thanks. Regarding this baffle removal, think I'll just by some slip ons, easier..for me...not good at DIY, I don't have the tools. But great tutorial. Good man. Keep up the good work.(PS your pipes do actually sound better than the slip ons I bought lol).
Thanks for your kind words, am glad you enjoyed the video, I was surprised how well these pipes sounded, nowt like achieving results for free! I bet it's warmer where you are than it is here right now, enjoy the sunshine.
hello del and penny, A real cool sound, and nice job for making it "look" so easy!! I you would buy a original exhaust, you've would paid a fortune! Great upgrade Tc. Dieter
After watchin this vid i did the same to mine even though i have short shots i reused baffels the bike runs better as they are linked, thankyou Del boy
I thought about doing this after seeing it on the Harley forums, but I was to cheap as impatient. Instead, I took an extension bar, put it in the exhaust end and hammered the baffle plug out. Then I took a 1/2" bit and drilled a hole through the intake end right through the catalytic converter. It sounds a lot better now, although I get a fair amount of decel popping. I like the popping, but I'm unsure if it's causing any damage or not to the engine.
+Smack Tapolis Hi buddy.....you wont be doing any real long term harm, but the 'popping' is unburned fuel vapour in the exhaust, being heated by the left over debris of the Cat, (that's what a cat does, the special metal its made from gets 3 times hotter than the regular steel of the rest of the exhaust, and that acts like an igniter to vapourise it silently)...if you take the whole thing out, then the pipe runs cooler, the left over vapour won't ignite, so it just passes out the back harmlessly......you can still do this here method to your pipes if you like..and the inserts will cost you about £20 tops....just google "Vance & Hines replacement baffle"...and then all you need is a drill and a saw or dremel...! get stuck in mate..
Great work, where are you from? i have a set of a exhaust (black) XL883N, can you accept to set like that? to sending to your garage and return? how is the cost.
Hi there, i love you videos and all your work! I have a question for you and tot you can help me out here. I'm planning to take my stock muffler and cut it short by 40%, shorter than the 1 u did in your video and then i will put a OEM baffle in without wrapping it with fibre glass. Reason is i like the overall design of the stock exhaust however i would like to cut it shorter for a better look and also more show of the rear tire. My question is do you recommend me doing it? my main concern is, will it damage my engine? Will the bigger diameter of the muffler affect anything? The OEM baffle that i got wont fit perfectly with the muffler after chopping, the baffle is about 47mm and i think the diameter gonna be around 52mm. Thank you in advance and appreciate if you can help. THANKS!
This is the baffle i got. www.aliexpress.com/item/4000029606983.html?algo_pvid=3c47bc72-7ef7-4a29-9f37-24f94ed7314e&algo_exp_id=3c47bc72-7ef7-4a29-9f37-24f94ed7314e-8
Yes this reconfirms everything that I've thought and read about. I just wanted to double check before I start cutting on my mufflers seeing how you're pretty keen at this sort. Definitely don't want to spend money ta fix something that ain't broke.
Exactly Kristian, its always good to check twice and cut once..lol The only vital part is cutting at the exact point up the taper to ensure the internals will pass through the hole...! Good luck with it mate..
I had baffle fall out of Screaming Eagle clip-on on my 03 FXDX. When I backtracked, straight tube end run over an crushed . So I cut crushed section off, was given free replacement sized pipe from muffler shop. Welded baffle, drilled hole in exhaust pipe just like you did here. Think I could use some V&H baffle like your pipe for my bologna cut clip one on 03' FXDX Super Glide Sport? Are you worried about the stamped saying "not for road use" (these accessory pipes added before I bought bike, asked but didn't get original pipes at sale)! Needed stainless washer outside bolt, so put half washer in vise just tapped an bent then bent other half to conform washer to round pipe. It came out so nice I want to do same to second good pipe before it's baffle falls out too! I've had talks with others about baffle failures an better security to having to fix like I did! Any law enforcement concerned about you cutting 2 3/4" off entire exhaust pipe, haha? Remember Harold passed Calif law that no one could alter exhaust. I've got my hand up, even though I made pipe much better, when I drilled the hole I altered exhaust pipe!! Work Safe, Your camera man is doing Great Job!
Sounds great and its amazing how just that little bit less taper makes them look so much more custom.I am interested in seeing what you do to the air intake , gotta get them horses out.
+Andrew Earl Always an immediate assumption mate, I'm not interested in any more power from the Harley... you trash the fuel economy and it hardly goes any quicker... I've got a fast bike so for all the money it would cost, it would be a waste of time... got a huge project coming up shortly which will take the place of all others for a few months, but I'll get to it in the end ...
Which Vance & Hines baffle did you use? 2.5", straight shot, or high performance? there seems to be several to choose from, don't know if they all have the same I.D.
+Barrett Peebles Just Google 'Vance & Hines Replacement Baffle' - they are the standard one they come with when you buy the pipes... if you get stuck, I'll measure it for you!
Hi Robert, im not sure of the internal anatomy of the Fatbob silencers... so i cant answer that.. it could well be the same, but who knows what differences Harley make between parts.... It works for the Sportster as you saw here.. sorry i cant be more help buddy.
hi, i'm also thinking about modifying oem exhaust, and this video gave a practical illustration of it. thanks! Did u think about welding a round cap at the end of the baffle? it would secure the inner stuff Also as i see there are huge variety of baffles on ebay, any recommendations? i have stock dyna exhaust system with catalytic converter
+Vladimir Chudinov Im not sure is any of the others work..but to get that exact V&H sound, you need just the baffle secured inside an open pipe... you can buy replacement V&H baffles on ebay very cheaply... lots of lisings to choose from.
Hi buddy, it's actually a lot quieter than even a Vance & Hines with full baffles in, it just sounds like a roartier version of a standard exhaust, which of course it would do, as the cat material acts as a decibel killer... thanks for watching !
Awesome , did this on my 48 2011. Sounds great, looks great but the fibreglass seems on its way out just after riding 10kms. Bit worried if its gona dispose off in the air. Its dangerous if inhaled.
If its blowing out fast then you probably didn't pack enough into the pipe.... it needs to be packed tight in order to stay put..! maybe try packing it back up again and maybe use thin wire between layers of wadding to compress it and pack more inside..!! Good luck with it. hope that helps..
I am a fan!! thank you for the tutorial. I have 2014 883 with stock exhaust. exactly what baffles did you use sir? what is the exact dimension of the baffle? will it fit 2014 883 iron? thanks again sir! I searched for 'Vance & Hines Replacement Baffle' but not sure which one to choose. Thanks
Hi there, as this is a custom modification, they will not fit perfectly, as you saw in the video, you have to 'create' a fitting spacer inside the pipe but they will work just fine once you strip the internal contents out of your exisiting baffles, and this is the baffles I used: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Python-Replacement-Baffle-for-Vance-Hines-Straightshots-Exhaust-/231451249907?hash=item35e391ccf3:g:kCIAAOSwzgRW1YKs Hope that helps!
Thank you sir! I just bought a pair! :) I took the baffles out last week. thanks for sharing the knowledge and replying to most of us on this thread. you are the real deal!! I just subscribed to your channel... have a great day sir. thanks again!! I will keep you and everyone posted. I will upload a before and after video.
Brilliant video del just ordered the baffles off ebay for £30 and going to try it on my 2014 883 superlow , One question though, doesn,t it need the cat in to pass an M.O.T
Hi there, good to hear from you, technically speaking, no it doesn't need a cat to pass MOT as there are no emissions tests for motorcycles so far, but it may be too loud for your tester's liking, so possibly, think about buying some second hand silencers from Ebay to cut up for this job and keep your factory ones so you can bolt them on for MOT?!
So I just finished this. I did it with Vance and Hines Quiet baffles for the short shot. I haven't driven it yet because I recently had surgery done on my arm....waiting for the surgeon to release me. But they sound goood.
+johnw73 Great news buddy, you'll love them on the road, personally I prefer the baffles out, but hey it's great to have the option - hope you enjoy it !
haha compared to every other youtube Johnny who ram jams a long drill bit through the baffle to turn it into swiss cheese, your video was like a fine surgeon doing it !! well done !
+TroubadourJuggernaut Yeah that's not a good way my friend, it leaves most of the cat convertor in place and that causes un-spent fuel vapour to pop and bang on shut down... which just sounds cheap! Thanks for your kind comments (haven't forgotten the Triumph carb tops lol!)
+Moonfleet41 Yeah, what I like most about it is it's done right, too. It's not some hack job just to make it sound better like drilling holes is or something. Retains the stock wrap and doesn't rattle or anything. Very cool.
+Paul Solerti Hi Paul, be careful using Autosol on chrome my friend, as long term, it will wear the chrome away because it's abrasive... it's great for cleaning of hard dirt and mild corrosion, but it does have a long term cost... the reason for WD40 is it releases the dirt and wipes it away smoothly and leaves a slight oily residue to protect the chrome from the elements ... if you want it to be shiney, then just buff over with a dry cloth afterwards !
Hi there I've got a sportster 2017 iron sportster with original mufflers i want to do the same modification like in the video but what size baffles must i order. Thanx. Heini
I'm wondering how well the fiberglass stays in? It looks as though it may blow out over time with only the one bolt with washer/spacers keeping it from coming out. I wish there was a way to seal it in.. Looks and Sounds Great!
Hi Bob, mine is all still in place, you could wire wrap it using MIG wire to keep it there... ir for what it costs, just buy some bona fide exhaust wadding and stitck it through the centre tube.... not had a problem with mine so far though..!!! thanks for wathcing buddy..
+campns1 Cheers buddy, got some long term plans for the inlet side... but a massive distracting project coming shortly... but will get to it eventually !
I've watched all of your videos you Iron 883 build. Any maintenance I do I look at your vids first. Now I have my own Iron 883. Nice sound to this exhaust. How are you going to the the cut edge to stop the rust? Also you did u use WD40 to wipe down the exhaust?
+Josh Watkins Hi Josh, Ive done this a few times, and the raw edge doesnt seem to rust, its such a thin edge, if it did, you just brush it round with some emery paper and it cleans it off.. I wipe down any hot parts with WD40 before they get hot, this takes the greasy hand prints off so they can burn on....
+Robert Robb Hi Robert....not so sure, i kinda like the old Racing Orange....its a long way down the list if i do it at all...got so muc other stuff in front of it..!
Thanks mate... if you can advise me on a new set of vance&hines short shot exhausts I'm fitting on my sportster 48 , can I wrap the baffle with packing to giv a better tone ?...I know v&h have a quiet baffle that comes with packing which is extra $100 ...the standard baffle comes with no packing . Thanks bro
A "better Tone" is purely subjective im sure you'll agree.... and it costs you nothing to give it a try aye... wrap them in some wadding and see if you like the sound... if not, run them empty.!
What was the measurement for the distance for the hole drilling for the baffle and what size screw? We are doing this too and this information would be super helpful
awesome transformation dude!!! Be safe be heard!!!!! There is very little that will beat a ghetto mod!! If it's cheap and it works then happy days!!!!! Gonna have to get me and Finn a loud thumping cruiser, that would be sweeet as!!!! Ace job as always! Hope the bump to the swede hasn't knocked too much sense into Penny lol speak soon bro
Yes mate thank you!!! Pretty much doubled with more dripping in every day!! Boosted views too. Got some plans in thr pipeline, some collaboration vids with another tuber amd maybe some visits to local establishments. Thanks for the support dude!!
hi guys I just have a 2016 I'm going to do this to do I need to put the fiberglass back around or will it work and just as good with out thank you awesome videos
Hey buddy, may I suggest looking online, maybe Ebay, for some cheap second hand older factory mufflers , even your dealer may have some you could buy for a song, they usually have dozens of pairs kicking about in their store room - my local dealer would even give a set away if they had marks on. That way, if you make a mistake and bugger them up, then you haven't trashed your factory pipes and left yourself stranded... am not sure if the '16 model pipes are the same cut dimensions on the tail pipe - mine was an '09 bike, so I can only guarantee those dimensions for a bike around that age - just a thought!
been fighting my '15 883xl super low for months now trying to get the baffles out. I got to the point of shopping for new exhaust until i saw this video. tried everything youtube had to offer. your solution finally made it work! 2 thumbs up, this guy right here !!
Nice work Kristian, im glad it worked for you... great sound aye. !
at last a sportster again and she sounds fantastic mate, it's great to see you working on the harleys, yer making my mornings again, best wishes, Alan.
+alan bailey Glad we brighten your day buddy, gotta few maintenance jobs coming up, waiting for some parts and like you say, it's great to have a Harley back in the stable !
Your video and advice is probably the best I’ve seen on TH-cam in a long time. Thanks for all the great tips.
Why not? Loud pipes save lives! Love there's a Harley back in the garage Del, looking forward to see what's in store for it!
Brilliant!
+Moonfleet41 squeeeeeeeal lol
Good DIY job to share out. I am very sure that you have set the inspiration for many people out there to follow your foot step! Well done buddy!
Awesome job buddy! Good to see a Harley back in the garage!
+Shanndoable Thanks matey, good to have one back..!
Del.
I love these easy practical mods. Nice one Del it sounds great.
+EastLondonKiwi Cheers mate, ain't hard is it??
Absolutely the best Harley exhaust mod on here. Everything I've seen involves a hole saw and a poor result. Top stuff and it worked like a charm.
PS I think Penny has a thing for loud exhausts!
+pgod1960 Ha ha, said that right Pete, she loves a bike to breath and make the right sound...lol Glad you enjoyed it sir... take care.. D&P..
Hi!! thanks a lot for these detailed instructions. My baffle removal is in progress, because made the cut at 3 inches and the baffle didn't came out in my harley fatbob 2017. The process is almost the same with this little difference, I will cut 1 inch more to complete the process. Thanks again and keep with make these useful videos!
Thank you for sharing your progress Jorge, good luck with it and i hope it comes out well for you... Have a good weekend.. Del.
How does this video only have 54k views? This is freaking awesome! Great job
Hi there did you do the modification on your original mufflers. Thanks Heini
@@HeiniRossouwyes. I started original stock mufflers similar to those in the video.
@@kalebgriffith7737the sound is louder?
D & P - little HOG sounds wonderful! Appreciate the tips from wrapping the washers in masking tape for stacking to loosening the bolts at the front of the exhaust system to prevent a possible snap - great bits of knowledge. Thanks for sharing! EW :)
+Ernst “Banditboy” Wondering Hi Ernst, just simple common sense things aye... thanks for watching... D&P.
G'day mate, glad to see it didn't take you long to start the mods. Nice job.
+Philip Humphreys You know how it is Philip, gotta get stuck in !
Sure thing buddy, the sound alone will enhance the riding experience... so releasing a few ponies as well just gets better!
Thanks Del, appreciate your advice, great to see a Harley back on your channel.
+Gordon Joyce Thanks buddy, much appreciated, so good to have a Harley again..
Excellent job, sounds great, I’ve heard so many exhaust that people have modified that sounds so cheap but your job sounds great, thanks for the video
I've actually used that pencil method before on tons of projects. Works great!
Penny's reaction says it all, sounds awesome mate. Nice one mate.
+JaffaSaffa Thanks Jaffa, every bike's gotta have a proper voice aye??
Which V&H baffle did you use for this great muffler mod? This is now on my to do soon list of projects. Thanks for the great video!
I just finished doing that to my bike. Had a bit of an issue placing the bolt hole but second pipe went better. It sounds incredible now!
Superb! - what a difference. Great tip on the exhaust studs too... :o)
Did this today and it worked perfectly. Thank you so much for providing this video! Keep it up!
I am very excited to see how it sounds, although its going on a Yamaha XS650 so it may sound just a tad different. ha-ha
Excellent video instruction for the do-it- yourself types.
Don't Throw Away Those OEM mufflers... Penny Pitstop does good work also.
Sounds great guys :) Looks better than short shots too IMHO... Maybe some heat wrap again. Rock on from down under!!!
What a lovely mod, and sounds so much better, great video
+stephen northam Cheers buddy, how's the Rat build coming on??
Just wiping the tear from my eye....what a sound this is what i need for my Harley some Vince and Hines Shortshots just love that sound
+Dean Child It is indeed a proper sexy noise...
Del this is excellent - going to give this a go this weekend... Cheers!
Good luck with is Andy, hope it goes well mate!
Clever, simply clever! That dimped area at the end is probably from welding the tapered pipe. Really some good advices for the process. I hope you don't mind me saying this, but I do like Pennys giggle! Tata!
+John Mård It's the result of working with the Monkey Boy, John... driven me to edge of madness lol ... thanks for your kind wishes, Penny !
Awesome sound, well done. Just a question, is that pipe VN part number 21899 ? So many different ones out there
I have no interest in this at all, yet still watched the whole vid. Such is the power of your hypnotic tones!! Nice one Del :)
+geodudeft Hypnotic tones?? You mean waffling nonsense, good to hear from you buddy... what you riding these days??!
Giant Defy 0 mainly!! lol I still have the trusty DRZ400SM which is great fun!! We have an Aroma cafe over here now btw!! Mocha's a plenty :)
Now that really sounds funky Del - Top work old chap !
In the US we just gut them and rehang them!!😁 I applaud your ingenuity! Cheers and happy riding from across the pond🍻
Thanks buddy, it's simple enough ain't it... thanks for watching the video!
And one more question. If the baffle wrap is going to get blown out anyway will that affect anything or just get louder? Does it necessarily need wrapped? Does it need to be wrapped again every so often?
Congrats on the new bike and well done ;-) I absolutely love it!
+Abouzar Kaboudian Thanks mate, it's a real privilege and we're still getting used to it !
I have the XL883L and this has been a major help, sick of guys in cars pulling into my lain on the road. Vancouver is not the best roads to drive on.
Hey John, yeah watch out for the assassins buddy... they're out there waitin for yah.... and on top of that, i bet you spend 3 months of the year under snow too..?
Thanks for the instruction. I have a 215 triumph America with stock peashooters. Can this method work as described on my bike?
Great video! But I was looking for the baffles that use Vance and Hines and you used, do you have the link of them?
Best regards from México.
Love running Vance and Hines, great pipes. Good job brother, sounds great.Ride Safe....
+hdfatboy329 Thanks buddy, proper sounds now aye...happy happy..!
hello del and penny,
A real cool sound, and nice job for making it "look" so easy!!
I you would buy a original exhaust, you've would paid a fortune!
Great upgrade
Tc.
Dieter
+leminako Thanks Dieter, yeah it's about £300 for a proper pair of slip ons and it's exactly the same sound !
NICE! First project for my '97 883 I think! Seriously, your videos are great, thank you!
Thanks Judson, glad we can help you.
After watchin this vid i did the same to mine even though i have short shots i reused baffels the bike runs better as they are linked, thankyou Del boy
Penny's reaction to the start-up - priceless :-)
+B0M0A0K yeah I know, silly moo lol !
Brilliant! Sounds amazing, fantastic video , thank you for sharing, really enjoyable!
Very good idea man!8 sounds like a true Harley to me.
Nice job. I’ve modified older mufflers before. Now I know the trick to cat removal!
+Moonfleet41 Thanks for the input Del, I certainly appreciate it.
Good job del ! have you tried the thin 1mm cutting discs they look a bit flimsy but cut superb.

Damn bro....I wanted to hear it goin' down the road!!! Nice job!!! :))
Looks nicerer, sounds nicerer. Beautifully done
Nice video! Was wondering if I do the same procedure for the baffles do I still need to measure 2 3/4in. for the cut if I have a 2015 Fat Bob? Thanks!
Hi Robert, im not sure of the internal anatomy of the Fatbob silencers... so i cant answer that.. it could well be the same, but who knows what differences Harley make between parts.... It works for the Sportster as you saw here.. sorry i cant be more help buddy.
ok thanks
Loving your work Del. Just ordered a pair of v&h baffles from the states to Oz, what could possibly go wrong lol.
Nice one mate, good luck, hope they arrive safe and sound... you're gonna love the noise they make!
Hello, awesome work.
is there a part number or any specific way to browse for same?
i have the Sportster and my mufflers look pretty much the same
Amazing bro🤤I'll do that on my black matt ones! You gave me the idea I needed 🥂
hi, i'm also thinking about modifying oem exhaust, and this video gave a practical illustration of it. thanks! Did u think about welding a round cap at the end of the baffle? it would secure the inner stuff
Also as i see there are huge variety of baffles on ebay, any recommendations? i have stock dyna exhaust system with catalytic converter
+Vladimir Chudinov Im not sure is any of the others work..but to get that exact V&H sound, you need just the baffle secured inside an open pipe... you can buy replacement V&H baffles on ebay very cheaply... lots of lisings to choose from.
The master strikes again! WOW. really impressed with that dell cheers
+UOO303T ..Thanks buddy, you're very kind.. sounds better aye..?
Great job! But if seems too loud is there a quieter baffle?
Thanks
Hi there, as this is a custom modification, they will not fit perfectly, as you saw in the video, you have to 'create' a fitting spacer inside the pipe but they will work just fine once you strip the internal contents out of your exisiting baffles, and this is the baffles I used: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Python-Replacement-Baffle-for-Vance-Hines-Straightshots-Exhaust-/231451249907?hash=item35e391ccf3:g:kCIAAOSwzgRW1YKs
Hope that helps!
+Moonfleet41 I put the short shot quiet baffles in my stock exhaust...I guess I didn't phrase that correctly.
haha compared to every other youtube Johnny who ram jams a long drill bit through the baffle to turn it into swiss cheese, your video was like a fine surgeon doing it !!
The only sound capable of giving me goosebumps other than lynyrd skynyrd's free bird solo :-)
+chris fletcher I agree mate !
Wow, what an awesome mod on the cheap! Very cool, thanks for that.
+MrSlowestD16 Glad you enjoyed buddy, nowt like saving a few beans aye??!
+Moonfleet41 Yeah, what I like most about it is it's done right, too. It's not some hack job just to make it sound better like drilling holes is or something. Retains the stock wrap and doesn't rattle or anything. Very cool.
Hi Del and Penny Great videos. Just quickly do you use WD40 to clean the chrome? I use Autosol. What is the reason for using WD40?
Hi Bob, mine is all still in place, you could wire wrap it using MIG wire to keep it there... ir for what it costs, just buy some bona fide exhaust wadding and stitck it through the centre tube.... not had a problem with mine so far though..!!! thanks for wathcing buddy..
sounds cool Del (Loud pipes saves lives )
Peter 1624 , loud pipes lose rights. Defensive driving saves lives!
where there's a will there's a way .Another great money saving vid.
sounds almost as good as my 04 Carbed sporty 883, time for you to but on the highflow air cleaner and properly get it tuned. Well done!!
Sounds bloody awesome Del. I should do the same to my little 1992 CBR250rr, can you imagine that exhaust screaming at 18,000 rpm? haha!
+Matt Bass Google "Delboy's Gargae cutting down a Yoshi can" and get stuck in mate !
great alternative to paying out for high priced slip ons.
hoping a change in the paint color coming soon?
+Robert Robb Hi Robert....not so sure, i kinda like the old Racing Orange....its a long way down the list if i do it at all...got so muc other stuff in front of it..!
+Johnny Knoxville Funny you should say that....!
Sounds great mate. Well done.
What was the measurement for the distance for the hole drilling for the baffle and what size screw? We are doing this too and this information would be super helpful
brilliant video as always... what so you do for a job? assuming some sort of.motor engineering?
awesome transformation dude!!! Be safe be heard!!!!!
There is very little that will beat a ghetto mod!! If it's cheap and it works then happy days!!!!!
Gonna have to get me and Finn a loud thumping cruiser, that would be sweeet as!!!!
Ace job as always! Hope the bump to the swede hasn't knocked too much sense into Penny lol
speak soon bro
+Turbotez ! Penny says 'cheeky b'stid!' ... I'm hoping it's knocked some sense in to her lol ... can't beat an ambush from a garage door ....!
Ha ha ha ha!!!!! I'll show it finn in the morning. Latest Finnlay's Garage is currently rendering...... Hopefully will be done in thr morning
+Turbotez ! Nice one mate, ill get the notification so ill have a watch...cant wait buddy, have you seen any more subs yet..?
That way, if you make a mistake and bugger them up, then you haven't trashed your factory pipes and left yourself stranded... am not sure if the '16 model pipes are the same cut dimensions on the tail pipe - mine was an '09 bike, so I can only guarantee those dimensions for a bike around that age - just a thought!
thanks Moonfleet41
your videos are awesome and helpfull
