There were few -if any - male actors on daytime during this time who displayed such intense emotion as Luke. There was a lot of old 1950s stereotypical character acting going on. I think we have Tony and Gloria Monty to thank for this new kind of blatant male passion on display.
I think he does come across as a little boy, crying and having a temper tantrum for something he wants and can't have. He was quite a schemer back then, and was able to manipulate Laura to do and say what he wants. TG's a great actor, but he is cast to be a low-life, and he succeeds.
@CarolWorth Anti-hero's have the dark triad- narcissism, machiavellianism and psychopathy. Luke has none of these. He has the traits of an actual hero. He's just a loud one😉
I loved Ruby, she reminds of my dear aunt that passed away in the 80’s, we used to watch the show together, she loved l n l and watched GH everyday. She wouldn’t answer her phone between 3-4pm 😂😂

Laura was a child... of 17 or 18... she grew into an amazing woman. Yes Luke helped her go there... but she kept him alive basically...he always had the potential to spiral way out of control without her to ground him. They were a prefect ying/yang fit. They were a classic great team.

GH has always been the best soap ever. The cast back in late 70’s, 80’s 90’s were fantastic. Story lines galore. TG and GF just made it more exciting and wonderful to watch with their love affair on the screen. They were fantastic together, boy I miss those days. Their characters played off each other with ease, not a beat was missed. You can see the amazing connection they had together, it was just so easy, nothing forced.
I think they both acknowledge that they have mad chemistry in a professional way...TG recently said that Genie Francis was his "acting soul mate" Genie Francis won't really comment on it because she said that when she tries to describe it out loud it seems to diminish it (because they are friends and working partners..).... they are just both AMAZING actors.
Whoa, things are getting down to the wire for Luke. He realizes he's about to lose Laura, so he's willing to take a huge gamble. I'm on the edge of my seat, even though I know what happens!
Yeah they were a FANTASTIC sibling pairing. Tony Geary and Jackie Zeman were phenomenal together... I so miss them together! They had the sibling thing down. Who else could you talk to like that but your sister or brother.
It is so clear from these just how bad Luke wanted children, Laura's children. The rewrite they did of him later to say he didn't want to be married or have children was such garbage. Everyone who watched this real time knew that it was Luke, more than Laura, who was pushing for marriage and children. Also, he's convinced now that she loves him but either can't admit it or doesn't even realize it herself and he's not going to let her get away with it. Everyone else let Laura hide and lie but never Luke. He never accepted that from her.
3:02. That's all I need to say. I've been back and forth with my mom all day on the phone. She could not believe that I actually stayed up until 6 in the morning watching classic GH. Now all day she's been texting to see where I'm at in the web. :D I love this. It doesn't even matter when people hate on this couple, because they are seriously so passionate and, sure, a little troubled but it all works out because they're just irrevocably bonded!

@entertainme3000 I personally never really saw him as threatening.. just really intense, and passionate (not meaning that in a romantic way, but just intense with focus about a specific topic).His anger/intensity usually stems from concern more than it does any kind of ego and self involvment. I think that is what most people, who it doesn't bother, see back then. Laura grabs him a few times in a fit as well. They are both very intense, passionate,people and I think they understand each other.

I remember a scene where Luke was crying and saying he let Laura go because that's what the doctor told him. She was better off without Luke in her life. It was the time Laura was in the mental hospital.
Hope I don't get killed for this, but I've always thought the Laura character was such a child. The Luke character, however, was so much older and full of character and charisma, and obviously rocked her socks off with seduction, but....other that her beauty, she was kind of a ding a ling at times..... but I always say, no matter, we're hooked on this! She was a child..just 16-17 when Luke started putting the moves on her. I always thought Luke saw her as a prize, a beautiful trophy, just out of reach. He was infatuated with her beauty; he didn't seem to care about her personality or maturity. He was more than obsessed, he was possessed!
The thing that troubles me about Luke's thinking in this scene is when he says that Laura didn't leave Scottie because she "betrayed" him with Luke... I guess (?) this is where the rewrite is coming along, because he is not acknowledging the rape here, only that somehow they had a liason in his mind which almost resulted in a child, and that he thinks that Laura looks at it as a time when she was "unfaithful" to her husband. It seems delusional on Luke's part here, and is unsettling, like something a stalker might think. I hate putting this out there, because I don't mean it in a negative way, just observing it...

I have watched this countless times, and yet just come across a niggling detail in Luke's "plan" - so if he calls Scotty, and says Hey - Jennifer's car is being repaired so I need you to help go pick her up, (freeing Luke up to go get Laura from school) won't Scotty just say Why don't you go get Jennifer yourself? (Seeing as Luke is free to go get Laura, won't Scott think Luke is just as free to get Jennifer?) Won't it look weird for Luke to switch places with Scotty (Scott getting Jennifer and Luke getting Laura, instead of the other way around) maybe I missed something...
No.... you won't... it shall happen soon. We just have watched a few go arounds, so we know Luke is wearing this shirt during a particular scene... we know upon seeing it now, that we will get to that scene again... some of you will just get to that scene for the first time. I have watched this countless times, and yet just come across a niggling detail in Luke's "plan" - so if he calls Scotty, and says Hey - Jennifer's car is being repaired so I need you to help go pick her up, (freeing Luke up to go get Laura from school) won't Scotty just say Why don't you go get Jennifer yourself? (Seeing as Luke is free to go get Laura, won't Scott think Luke is just as free to get Jennifer?) Won't it look weird for Luke to switch places with Scotty (Scott getting Jennifer and Luke getting Laura, instead of the other way around) maybe I missed something...
