Luke’s vulnerability and remorse is hypnotic here. For me, he describes his all consuming love and need for Laura, in a way that draws you into his broken heart. He is contrite. He was “as soon as he came to his senses,” as he puts it. Laura loves him too and we know it. His desperation for her drives his every move. I believe, if he is alive, he still dreams of his first and true love❤️❤️❤️
@@Prairiepagan316 it really does seem like an odd thing to talk to your sister about. He has such desperation for Laura. Apparently there are other episodes before the rape that we didn’t even see. People would’ve seen them when they were aired, but they’re not in any playlists. He took pictures of her while she was practicing cheerleading. He has those pictures on his desk and I always wonder where he got them from. So I think there’s more episodes that outline there deep love for each other, but Laura couldn’t see it yet.
Just to clarify, I was not married, I was in high school at the time, and I was about the same age as Laura. The boy involved was so sorry, just as Luke was. I can understand this complicated situation perfectly. It is not impossible for Luke to be completely forgiven.
Thanks Lorraine. I have always felt if the rape had been more realistic and graphic, as Luke has always said, perhaps the audience would not have been so forgiving. It is always frustrating to me to see so much dialogue and attention between Luke and Laura and Bobbie and Scotty, and yet 20 years later, it was treated as if it was never worked out between them. We, constant fans, know it was worked out and “it felt like forgiveness” to us too. The words “I forgive you” were spoken by Laura. “Forgive me, Laura,” spoken by Luke. That is why we love them both so much. They were able to forgive one another.
What a powerful and compelling scene! My heart breaks for Luke, he so regrets what happened. TG'S is amazing as he portrays Luke, this scene is one reason I forgave Luke. For those who think this is impossible - I was in a very similar situation with a male who was one of my best friends, and I forgave him, he remained a very good friend. As Luke says later, no one would understand it.
When Luke tells Bobbie his feelings about the rape, I almost felt sorry for him. He turned a rapist into a sympathetic character. That's some good acting by T.G.

For people who think Laura is whining child, that's the whole point. If she had started out as a strong independent woman, the storyline wouldn't have been half as compelling. Watching Laura grow up over the summer is one of the best parts of the story, IMO. Some of my favorite scenes are when she moves into her own apt & shows Luke she can survive w/o him. Also, those wedding dresses...UGH! LOL. And.....so close to the SAILBOAT SCENE!!!!!!!!
The intention by this point was to really soften up the idea of it being "rape".. and that she had to have feelings for him.. not that it was okay, and I don't think they ever made it "okay" (thank GOD)... but just that it was complicated, and that he could have been right mis-reading the situation , thinking she wanted him, especially in the horrid state of mind he was in.
That was one of the best performances of TG over all the years... having said that, I don't mean this in a mean way like some of the haters, but I think it's safe to say - If Laura is "crying, and dragging herself away" as he puts it, it probably doesn't make sense that the writers have him say "I don't know, I honestly don't know.." regarding if it was rape or not.

That was my intention... to share this amazing story telling and acting with those of you not around when it originally aired, and to remind those of us who were there why we Love Luke and Laura so much . Everyone associated with GH at the time was SO dedicated & talented, and this stuff DESERVES to be seen and appreciated by all generations. It was all so good, wasn't it? (I was still in elementary school back in the day. I appreciate it more as an adult.)
In all these years, including the times I've watched in this playlist, I never noticed (!!!!) until just now, that he is pausing over a certain clothing item in the closet that takes him back to the night - is it the same pair of pants he was wearing? At first, I was thinking, "Oh, this reminds me of when he was in the closet at F. Oaks later on... when he was onto something big if you know what I mean... and then I saw he was flashing back because of the clothing he held in his hand. interesting detail, they paid so much attention to every little detail:)
She retrieved the sweater day or so after the rape. She went to Luke for help with police how to give description of rapist to clear Roy. That's when tall blond was decided. He also reminded her she does always respond to him. He believed she responded to him Rise night. He was so tortured by hurting her.

If you watch all of this you will know that Luke just thinks she has this sense of purity, that he had never known in another person... a desire for goodness, even though she screws up like the rest of us. I really enjoyed watching Laura grow up once she and Luke got together. Scott wanted to keep her that immature needy little girl.... but Luke not so much. Great characters... love them both.
And now we have the full turn to questioning whether it was rape or not. This is how long it takes to get to this point and I think that's part of the purpose of the sailboat seduction because if Luke can show that Laura does want him and care about him then maybe it was just her own fear of her own feelings that set off the whole chain of events that night. It's always amazing to see how the GH writers managed to turn that boat around until Guza came along and sank it.

I have to be honest....this guy totally fascinates me as an actor. He plays scenes with an honesty that is very rare. Hasn't Tony written some of the storyline ideas for past GH episodes? I know everyone thinks the Sailboat Seduction scenes are the tops (and they are), but I have to admit, these scenes along the way are incredible
Yeah, no..I don't judge people in real life either. I believe that you could never,unless you walked a mile in their shoes, or more accurately spent a day with their brain.Unfortunately that is never an option.Perspective is a very interesting thing,everyone has one and nobody's is right or wrong.That is why I always thought this such incredible entertainment.They did such a great job of having us see everyone's point of view & everyone seemed to be doing the best with the hand they were dealt.

We all understand that Laura is scripted to be this type of person but that's just a fun of the soap opera world. we get to see people we love to hate and dislike and yet at the same time we can't live without them. Yes, he wrote Luke and Laura's return to Port Charles in 1993 and he wrote some of the 2001 endgame story... but the story was changed because of 9/11 (the PTB took out biotoxins and added frozen stavros). He works with a writing partner Irene S... for the life of me can't get the last name out of my head. My biggest hope is that TG and Ms. S have written whatever story is about to run for Lucas Lorenzo in 2009!!

Luke was great by all means but he never respected Laura's marriage to Scott causing so much tension between them. However Scott should have been less controlling especially after the rape. Pushing Laura to go to rape counciling was hard on her.
If Luke thinks screaming , "NO, Luke!" is responding, he's sicker than he thinks he is.I know by this time fans were clamoring for Luke/Laura, but trying to turn that rape into a seduction is grossly inaccurate.

I've watched the kissing part of the scene and the video is so dark that I can't really tell whether Laura responds or not. I always think it stinks the producers made this decision about LnL having Luke rape her. I don't believe his character would have done that. Men who do SA are emotionally/mentally stunted and many times have a narcissistic view of the world. Luke has a personality type that is completely opposite to this. Nevertheless, the s/l has him do it.🙃🙃

Jackie and Tony were an amazing team as brother and sister from wrong side of the tracks.
The dresses the ladies wore was the standard back in the 80s and most of the 90s. Much better clothes and style back then.

Luke was great by all means but he never respected Laura's marriage to Scott causing so much tension between them. However Scott should have been less controlling especially after the rape. Pushing Laura to go to rape counciling was hard on her.

GF in interviews has always said it made more sense that laura stopped saying no and gave into her feelings and couldn't deal with that but tptb never asked her opinion only TG was asked and again when the rape was revisited in the 90s GF was not asked her opinion. @tammyramey I agree that Luke raped Laura, there's no equivocating about that. I've watched the kissing part of the scene and the video is so dark that I can't really tell whether Laura responds or not. I always think it stinks the producers made this decision about LnL having Luke rape her. I don't believe his character would have done that. Men who do SA are emotionally/mentally stunted and many times have a narcissistic view of the world. Luke has a personality type that is completely opposite to this. Nevertheless, the s/l has him do it.🙃🙃
