I remember the 1st time i saw them they had just released their 1st album. It was crazy 3 guitarist plus a bass player, also the deepest bass drops ive ever heard. I was hooked immediately.
Fun fact, when they came up to Alaska in 2010 they played about 4-5 songs till they broke the entire stage on a breakdown. That was it! Didn't see them again till a couple months ago in Sacramento.
These guys are the hometown heroes where I live in the Knoxville area, and I remember finding them in 2012 after I found Suicide Silence and from then on I was obsessed with with Chapel and anything they did. Then, finding out they were from the area I grew up just blew my mind, and ended up supporting everything they did! I have seen like 6 or 7 times now, and one of my best friends was at target in Knoxville seen Phil and he played some of Our Endless War early for him because he had time to kill! I genuinely don’t give a single fuck what anyone says about these guys they are legends, and make me damn proud to be where I’m from!!
This Is Exile will always be the best deathcore album ever to me. Perfect balance of technicality, groove, caveman riffs and epic atmosphere. The Cleansing is really close but nothing matches the epic feel this is exile to me.
The cleansing was recorded for free in a friend's garage so yah by default the sound quality by itself would be better and SS didn't have a producer to help them with it they pretty much had him JUST record it.
@@justinbowen1183 the production of the Cleansing, to me, is the best in all of Deathcore. You can hear that it was recorded live, all musicians in the room. it has an intensity that most Deathcore, especially nowadays, simply lacks imho
@@terriblecertainity I myself also prefer to live record but not all projects work out with it. I feel that if you primarily want people to come see you oige that you should record it live in 1 take as is but that's just me. Sitting there in a studio and getting it to sound as good as it can I feel in a way kind of lies to people about your sound quality because your primary emphasis is your live shows so record it all live exactly how it would sound at your show. My old band we took a pretty decent pocket recorder and stacked up a bunch of milk crates and just played everything with it at eye level because that's how the audience is going to hear it. We played each song live but we recorded them 1 at a time
@@justinbowen1183 agree on that! I have no issue with recording seperately, double tracking etc. I do that myself. But there comes a point where you punch in too much, edit too much, and all humanity ( and to me) and emotional impact is lost. Distant's productions are my prime example of this. I doesn't even sound like humans anymore. Everything is on grit , you don't even get the slightest hints of fret noise or other imperfections. Which bores me.
I'm sure someone has mentioned it already but Brandon Cagle is their sound guy for most if not all their shows. He's still a pivotal member of the band
I’ve been having a rough time lately, and I stumbled across these videos today. Really helped lift my spirits! Thank you. All the love from here in Nebraska.
That’s the best thing you could ever tell me .. I’m so glad I could make you feel a little better !! Feel free to join our discord and hang out with us too🤘🏻🔥
I started listening to them as a joke. A friend showed them to me because he misheard lyrics. A couple of lines into the song "The Darkest Day of Man" he says "with the time and preparation" and it sounds like "with the Dr Pepper retard". You can't unhear it hahahaha. That was in 2010 and I've been listening ever since.
I have always loved Whitechapel, they're definitely a nostalgic band to me now. Memories of hanging out with my goofy friends as a teenager and driving around listening to Whitechapel together flood my mind when I hear them. I actually ran into Phil on Diablo 3 in 2019, he invited my friends and I to a party in game and added us to his discord server, then proceeded to carry us through GR 110s for about 4 hours and it was one of the coolest things that has ever happened to me. Who wouldn't be stoked to game with their favorite vocalist? 🤘
I saw them a few weeks ago in Paris with Thy Art, Fit For An Autopsy and Spite. They ended the show with "This Is Exile". It was brutal, but I wanted to hear more "old school" songs on stage !
17:01 from an elder deathcore head lol. I loved/hated seeing Whitechapel or suicidesilence play with Canibal corpse or Aborted and any Death Metal bands. I absolutely loved them separately but the fans of each are drastically different. WC would take the stage and the younger ones like me would want to hardcore dance. and the Old ass gatekeepers that were there to see Aborted or Cannibal would start fights or throw people outta the pit. Even make fun blockades so you couldn’t have fun. You can totally see it in the 2008 live sections of your videos. Look at all the dudes dead still, arms crossed looking absolutely miserable. It was so frustrating until WC started headlining or Summer Slaughter tour would come through.
White chapel is definitely a top favorite. Looking forward towards your next video man! I’m sure you’ve heard of the band “Animosity” hope to see a MySpace era video on them soon🤘
I have the chance to catch Whitechapel from their debut Australian tour back in 2009, Phil is definitely a really chilled dude to chat with after the show
Whitechapel are the goats hearing Vicer Exciser when I was 13 changed my whole concept of reality lol. Months later my friend would get his massive gauge ripped out of his ear at there Orlando Fl show lolol I miss these days
Phil is such a fucking good vocalist, it's crazy. Whitechapel overall brings the perfect balance of deathmetal and hardcore. As a die hard DF fan and how great they are at blending brutal deathmetal and hardcore, whitechapel reminds me of that but for deathcore.
Love your videos man! Really good job covering every band from this era. Only piece of advice I’d say for future videos is less of the word “amazing”. Kind of a dumb critique 😂 but it’s just something I feel like would help your videos.
In 2019 I went to go see them. Had just signed divorce papers so was in a shit place mentally. They put on a hell of a show tho, for that time at least I got to forget about what was going in life. And I got hit insanely hard in the pit 😂 somehow I was hit on my right side and my left shoe went FLYING. People helped me up and helped me find my shoe thankfully. But my knee was super fucked up when I got home that night. Overall 10/10 great band great time. Highly recommend them live lol
Brandon cagle is their front of house engineer. Has been their main guy for many years and always makes them sound insane live. Still a very big part of Whitechapel.
🤘🏻 Bro I'm from Knoxville Tennessee I'm 48 and Iv have seen a lot of death metal here but Whitechapel back in the day was brutal especially the hometown shows keep up the awesome content 🤘🏻🖤
3 guitarists, not including the vocalist who also plays guitar. Pushing one another to create the best riffs. What they created: Chug-chug-chuggity-chug-chug
Phil bozeman is so damn great, he has multiple generations of people doing low gutterals. The beginning to the somatic defilement is the birth place to deathcore vocalists doing low gutterals. Such a great album. Let's be honest, we all tried to do the beginning gutteral to the somatic defilement LOL. This is exile is amazing too. The iconic "This world is ours" line still gives me goosebumps to this day. People in the deathcore community should be giving this man props for popularizing and shaping deathcore today vocal wise.
great video, I think u just missed talking about the collaborations in a new era of corruption, because they are just absolutely great and some have interesting backgrounds
Fuck yea loved the early whitechapel and still fuck with em but seriously bro we need that The acacia strain video im from western mass and u have no idea how nutty early t.a.s. shows were fucking brutal saw them so.many fucking times they were legends around Springfield mass
I discovered whitechapel from the mitch lucker memorial show. I also discovered danny worsnap which lead me to Asking Alexandria as eell as Austin carell from of mice and men
I really appreciate your content. It takes me back. I think you'll blow up in this niche along with your peers ala cozy representative & the punk rock mba. Keep it up and I will keep tuning in! I hope to see one on early parkway drive !
I saw them at warped tour, I don’t think any other band that day had the same crowd or performance. They absolutely killed it! Also valley and kin aren’t deathcore per se but as far as metal albums those might be some of the greatest music to have come out imo.
To me its huge how almost all there first songs are the same as on the somatic defilment. Dudes had the sound down immediately just needed an album. No producer helping to write. They had it down at the battle of the bands, no 2 shitty eps before being good just hard out the gate
I listen to black metal in my younger years still do today but white chapel opened me wide open for deathcore with that fairy fay song also about to download discord!
I remember seeing Whitechapel right before they blew up at soundwave festival Brisbane 2010 with Trivium and a day to remember. Absolute powerhouse show! Knew that they were headed for a bright future.
I remember seeing them open up for the devil wears Prada in toledo ohio no one knew who they were and ever since then they have been mu all time favorite band 🤘🤘
I love that this channel is exactly the kind of content I've been wanting to watch, now if you start doing things on death metal bands and related genres too that would be nuts.
Whitechapel is the band that got me into deathcore, I remember the somatic defilement album release being so fucking hype
For me, it’s whitechapel alongside despised icon and thy art is murder
Same, no one else had ever interested me that much until Whitechapel.
The somatic defilement is still an absolute banger, still in my top 10 albums to go back to.
100% 🤘🏻🔥💜
same here, i also got A New Era of Corruption in my top 10.
I remember the 1st time i saw them they had just released their 1st album. It was crazy 3 guitarist plus a bass player, also the deepest bass drops ive ever heard. I was hooked immediately.
Definitely part 2, please 🙏

So glad you took the time to honor my favorite deathcore band. Phil and the boys are absolute legends. Great video man
Fun fact, when they came up to Alaska in 2010 they played about 4-5 songs till they broke the entire stage on a breakdown. That was it! Didn't see them again till a couple months ago in Sacramento.
They were at the hard rock hotel near marysville last month with in flames and meshuggah
Phil's performance at the Mitch Memorial show punches me in the guts every time 🤯
Ear to ear had me hooked the first time heard it on their MySpace page. Loved them for a long time.
PhillyBo has ALWAYS been on some next level shit. Definitely one of the deathcore goats 🐐 thanks for this video brother!!🤘🏻

your super likeable man! A true fan of anything Core. Are you from Quebec?
I remember getting a virus on my pc while trying to download somatic defilement off of limewire lol
Full disclosure, my band Tyrant Kingdom is like 70 percent inspired by whitechapel.

I was at the Glagow show on this tour and it was fuckin filthy
Sound like a killer lineup damn
Vocals unmatched period.
Whitechapel is the Metallica of their genre

I grew up in Knoxville whitechapel has always been well respected in the community
Necesito un amigo con el que pueda analizar bandas de esta forma ( con un par de cervezas y un aperitivo). Definitivamente.
true gem, unbearable heaviness…everything is excellent - vocal and lyrics, amazingly composed songs!
also i have to see em alive at the end of a month!

I just found this channel, and it's awesome!! 🔥 Whitechapel introduced me into deathcore, favorite band since
I see that Bound In Fear Hoodie 👀🔥🔥 but This Is Exile Album was a HUGE game changer in the game also when OCEANO came out also
Have you seen his video with suicide silence at warped? Phil looked so smaller but he DWARFED Mitch’s vocals.
Great video! I really hope if they make another record, it's heavier than their latest stuff. Who knows, I guess time will tell.
