Elysia shows were insane back in the day. I saw them multiple times and they were some of the craziest and violent shows ever. I saw them with Molotov Solution, Impending Doom and Knights of the Abyss, one of the best shows I ever went too
My first tattoo was Elysia lyrics "Just because you close your eyes, doesn't mean the world dissappears" I was at their show in OC Chain Reaction you already know. I had one of their shirts "How the fuck do you say Elysia?" Because that was a thing, no one knew how to pronounce it right. Love this band so much. Thank you for making this
I remember these dudes being super mysterious. coming out of nowhere, people misspelling their name. their songs mislabeled as other bands, no one knew what they looked like and gone before anyone could catch up. at least that’s how I remember it
Bro, me too. I would do the vocals to the Masochist album so much D'x lol. They were sick. One time at Chain Reaction, Zak put his foot on my shoulder during Swine and we screamed it at each other. A beautiful fucking moment ingrained in my brain lol.
I went to a few Elysia shows in Orange County when they played with bands like Suicide Silence, Stick To Your Guns, and Underneath the Gun. They were insane. Incredibly violent sets, but so much fun
I was there, at the house party with Suffokate. I was there when they played The Boardwalk (local venue) with Impending Doom. I still have a physical copy of Masochist, bought from the man Zak himself I couldn't be more stoked for their announcement today
Freaking love it! First tattoo I ever got was Elysia lyrics. I'm seriously stunned that you are making videos on such deep-cut bands. It's amazing!!!! Keep up the great work!
one of my favorite bands. actually zach did a guest vocals on a newer bands song the band is called tactosa and he did vocals for there song the bleed machine. its brutal OG deathcore.
great watch man. my band was supposed to open for them & knights of the abyss in Jersey, but it never happened :/ idk if the show just got canceled or the promoters were just scamming using their names to sell tix. I was bummed cause they were 2 of my fav bands at the time. the AZ/CA scene at that time was something else. my now late brother who was our vocalist used to make us cover "filthy" during practice & even at one of our shows. great times. thanks for bringing me back
I live in Jacksonville, NC and went to 2 or 3 metal shows almost every week. I never thought Elysia would come and when they did I was not disappointed. I saw them here on friday then again in the next town saturday. At the wilmington show the mic made it into the crowd at some point and it felt amazing getting my hands on it and screaming "my thumbs are in your eyes and they keep fucking pushing" while the guitars were chugging and everyone was moshing around me. That was one of the best shows and just experiences in my entire life. I also got to meet them in the jacksonville mall. I remember the guitarist bought like nike wrist sweatbands and headband and shoes that were all red and matched. Its weird to remember that but they were one of my top 5 favorite bands at the time. I saw many many bands from that "myspace era" and have infinite stories I could tell. This is great content and thank you so much for making it. I just found you today for the first time and will be back!
everyone hated it, and then they released something saying it’s not even the sound they wanted. and then they just disappeared. that album is what ended them
Grew up in the same area of Nor Cal as these guys. Used to see them play in living rooms, backyards, tiny little event rooms, etc. This shit brings me way back!
The video for Incinerate was done on 10/07/2007 at the Arlington Heights KOC in Arlington Heights, IL. When they were on tour with Stick to Your Guns & Catherine. There were so many people at that show! It was freezing cold outside the ceiling was dripping with water because of the condensation! The floor was so slippery when people were moshing they kept falling over! Best show ever!!!!
i saw elysa, winds of plague, arsonists get all the girls, and knights of the abyss at the same show in michigan and its forever the highlight of my life
I remember buying the Masochist CD outside The Underground in Roseville from them after a Catherine show. I remember blasting it on my way home and being completely blown away. Their shows were so great. So many good time. I’m so glad to have been there and also glad they re-released the Masochist album. It would be dope if they do some reunion shows.
So wild that they were on the younger side of their teens than most others that started a band and they were already doing iconic deathcore in 2004! Around that time metallic hardcore was more popular. Most people didn't really get into "deathcore" until 2007/2008 at the peak Myspace era.
Bro, thank you for talking about these guys. I was a mixed race athlete/jock during that time and I remember making a ton of friends in the scene/emo groups because they found out I loved this kind of music. Also the fact you had to say Elysia’s lyrics would be controversial today is crazy to me 😂. Especially because Cannibal Corpse, dying fetus etc were foundational to these genres.
Love this band. Used to have the cd, got drunk and let a a friend borrow it. Never saw it again. Still hav it on my ipod. I'm 33, Oklahoman.❤ good shit
Would love to see an interview with Zak and yes, we need Elysia in 2024…. Btw I was at one of the shows in your clips, Lacey Moose Lodge in NJ, 2007 or 2008. My band got to open the show, it was a fucking awesome night, still remember it well.
I was fortunate enough to see Elysia with KOTA, See You Next Tuesday, A Girl a Gun a Ghost, and The Banner in I think 2008 and it is still my favorite show that I have attended. Soooooo fucking fun .
I was at the Las Vegas shows with Elysia, impending doom, and Molotov Solution. I was doing merch for sleeping giant at that show. The night before I was with xdeathstarx and a much of facedown artists. But the Vegas shown was one of the craziest show I’ve been to still till this day.
I'm glad to see we're still talking about Elysia years later. My brother Danny was one of the guitarists from 2006 up until sometime 2008, I believe. He was 16 when he joined Elysia and toured with them; whenever the band wasn't performing or schlepping gear around he was working on high school assignments and exams via independent study. I might be wrong, but he might've graduated high school while on tour. The stories he's shared with me during his time in the band were insane in the best way possible, along with all the photos and videos I saw popping up on Myspace and TH-cam. Legendary band, cool dudes, iconic music. Thanks for taking the time to make this video!
Elysia used to be one of my favorite bands in back then. This was such a good throwback video. I still listen to this stuff from time to time. " My thumbs are in your eyes and they keep fucking pushing."
Dude I just discovered your channels. Im in awe the bands you cover it's amazing! EPYSIA, WE ARE THE END, WCWBT, so sick. Graduated HS 2010. I was that kid lolol
I forgot to mention. For anyone who loves elysia I highly recommend the band tactosa. Zak features in one of their songs called the bleeding machine. They have that early MySpace deathcore sound that we all love and miss 🥲
Yessss. My man! This was so good. On point 👌 I lived in the central/southern coast of CA and saw Elysia, Suicide Silence, and Suffokate. Suicide Silence and Suffokate had played at a church and the cops got called 😂 it was fun. I miss those days. Never fully knew what their demise was, and this brought a lot of clarity. Thank you! Enjoying your stuff as always!
Damn. I was deep in deathcore back in 2008-2012. Elysia was my favorite band. I remember reading Zak's blog and being a huge fan of him. They were so heavy and noisy but had this air of maturity about them. Thanks for the great video!
I saw them in San Diego, new years. It was suicide silence, warriors, carnifex, them, so many more. But remember them cause how the crowd got. Was crazy exactly like you see in the videos.
Another really young band from back in the day was Animosity. Those kids were fucking killer. They actually made their way to my tiny little town in Vermont, many moons ago. They were so sick.
I like all the clips from the showcase in Corona CA , that place was my weekend home until it got sold and closed up lol a so cal legendary venue RIP yea man when these guys popped there were SOOOO many future legendary bands just playing backyards still lol I remember in Moreno Valley ca where I lived and was in a band playing deathcore we got suicide silence to play my friends house show in Perris ca PRE the cleansing right after they released the OG ep with family guy quotes still on it haha we got as blood runs black to play my ex gfs house lol good times! Underneath the Gun had just popped up in my area and I saw them at skatepark lol the vocalist Harrison was late and showed up on a bicycle lol the early days were such a trip in hindsight
Thanks for this, man. I was in high school when all of this stuff came out, and it's nice to look back on it almost 20 years later. Hard to believe it was that long ago now, but I still listen to a lot of it today. Currently binge watching your library of deep dives on the MySpace era. 🤘 Also, I'm glad you clarified the use of the f slur in incinerate. Totally agree it wasn't to be homophobic, it was about being bullied at school for being gay because they wore girl jeans. This is something all scene dudes back in the day had to deal with to some extent or another. It was also a different era back then, and that word wasn't nearly the showstopper it is today. I'm actually surprised that song is even allowed on YT.
You have to do one of these on It Dies Today. They practically set the standard for heavy at the time in 2004. A few weeks ago was the 20th anniversary of The Caitiff Choir being released.
I grew up in Folsom, CA. The city is 30-40 mins from shingle springs. I was in highschool when the band members were in highschool. I can say with almost absolute certainty, that this band directly and indirectly influenced every hardcore, metal, deathcore - etc. - influenced band that grew out of and originated in the northern and southern California areas. In my opinion, to this day, no other band within deathcore and the wider genre has encapsulated the sound, energy, and lyrics that Elysia did. To me, they were the marriage of hardcore punk and deathcore. I compare every band within the wider genre to their sound and none of them come close.
Saw them at the pink eye in 06 or 07 I cant remember in Tulsa, Ok. We all got super drunk and I was so tired in the pit I almost passed out. Crazy show. Good times. Like you said about Mitch he partied with us and treated everyone like family. Saw them many times. Miss the old days. Speaking of impending doom anyone remember the guy that would tour around with them short stocky guy that would murder everyone in the pit? This was way back in the day. Definitely do one on whitechapel. I’ve seen them like 8 times and when they first started coming to town Phil was always super quiet and pretty odd. He was nice but now listening to all his lyrics about his life no wonder he’s like that.
MY THUMBS OR IN YOU'RE EYES,AND THEY KEEP FUCKING PUSHIN!!❤... Man i remember bumping that shit every day back then!!! Thanks for making this video sir i forgot about that gem
Can You Please Do a Video on the band *PenKnifeLoveLife* ?? Pleeeeease🙏🙏🙏 They were one of my favorite bands from that era & they disappeared with no explanation. @xTheYan They dropped "2am" & "Pyphorias Lover" (their two best songs i would recommend listening to) & then nothing..?
Elysia was my favorite band in the fucking world. I could still say this now: every time they came remotely close to San Diego I’d go see them. I was at the show that’s recorded on TH-cam with underneath the gun and Emmure. The day I graduated in 2007 they played a show, and I left graduation and headed straight to Soma to see them and got there just in time for their set. Fucking amazing times!
So weird, never listed to this band and I was at my prime age during this time but just never gave them a listen but most definitely checking out this video and maybe then I will get into them 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Back in 08/09? I seen a show it was (from opener to closer) Scourge of Medusa, Fate, Stray from the Path, The Ghost Inside, The Warriors, and Elysia. It was around the time Lion of Judas was coming out and it was PACKED. I want to say it was a hookah lounge that they would rent out for shows in Tracy CA. Show was insane. So wild thinking about how big some of those bands are now. Oh did I mention the show cost was $5!?
This is amazing as someone who grew up in Sacramento and just a couple years younger we thought it was just an amazing local band and the different shows at from the club everyone played to an internet cafe thank you for the nostalgia for me and a lot of friends
My buddies had a band back in the day and opened for them in St Louis . Circa 2008 . tremble behind the trigger, Elysia and Stick to your guns. Was a fun time to be 19 yrs old
Elysia ruled. There was an Elysia shirt I cherished someone stole from me like 15 years ago or so. It had Bush on the front of the shirt with; "Faux News". I cant even find the shirt online to remember everything else that was on it or get another. No matter the price. Ha. But one of the dopest band shirts I've seen with a political statement. I still have my physical copy of Masochist that I got with the shirt I wont ever get rid of.
Dude Elysia and the impending doom show was insane. Saw them at the Birmingham Alabama show and everyone went so crazy for Elysia that I almost felt bad for impending doom. No one had any energy left for the headliner because we went all out in elysia's pits.
I wasn't a fan then but I give them a chance. I love this channel. He really puts tim3 and effort into his videos. Deserves anything great in life he gets from his hard work. Cheers
So stoked you did this video! I have always loved this band. Saw them I think in 07 in Augusta Georgia at a summer festival called sausage fest. They crushed it!
The first two clip are from showcase theatre in corona, California for This City Is burning records label release party featuring Emmure, Elysia, Underneath The Gun, Austin Francis, The Light Season, Unite & Conquer. This was a good show and if you look closely you might see me in the pit
Java Jazz in Houston TX with Knights of the Abyss. The heaviest show I've ever been to, literally nothing compares to that show and the energy they and the other bands had. The fucking hardcore pit was nastyyy too, everyone was throwing down. Fun fact: My first tattoo when I turned 18 was the iconic chest piece and says, "just because you close your eyes doesn't mean the world disappears" .
Fuck yeah I was at that one as well. Got my nose broke during incinerate 😂 seen animosity and a multitude of other bands there and junction as well rip both those spots
Does anyone know more about the song november 5th its honestly my favorite song but I can't find much on it or any other elysia songs that sound like it.
I was at the impending doom spring break tour and the show was going to be canceled and arsonist get all the girls backed out. MS, elysia, and impending doom all came threw at a bass player of a local band named sovereign strength and played a house show out of a grage. Best show I ever went to. Miss those days
I was about 16 (2006) when I first heard of Elysia. I still have my two Elysia shirts. My favorite of the two is the one with George Bush drinking out of the chalet. I wish I had known to buy an XL size of every shirt that I bought back then. I definitely do not fit into a medium. 🤣 I started off being into punk rock (my first show was The Casualties & AntiFlag), then I got into death metal (my first deathmetal show was Cannibal Corpse and Dying Fetus), but once I heard Through The Eyes Of The Dead… I became Deathcore fan for life. I just went to see Depaised Icon and The Acacia Strain twice last week. I saw them in Houston, Tx and then I drove to Austin, Tx two days later for the same tour. My first deathcore show was Job For A Cowboy, at Fitzgeralds in Houston, Texas. I consider myself super fortunate to have been so young and see all of these, now iconic, deathcore bands touring when they were also young. I essentially spent every weekend at Java Jazz (an old venue in Houston) watching bands play. Elysia is one of those bands that hasn't ever left the constant rotation of music that I frequently listen to. I'm into a lot of new deathcore, metalcore, hardcore bands... But those MySpace era bands and shows were a whole different ball game.
@@kaptainkes The Lion of Judas shirt is all black with the eye from album art but in blue. Size Medium. The George Bush shirt has the sleeves cut off. Size Medium as well.

Underneath the Gun had just popped up in my area and I saw them at skatepark lol the vocalist Harrison was late and showed up on a bicycle lol the early days were such a trip in hindsight
i have a shirt from 14-15 years ago
i found it, its so shredded
Zack also recenly did a feature with the band tactosa
That track is nasty
Thank you for making me go back and listen to that knights of the abyss track with Zak on it. God damn it still slaps so hard, absolutely timeless
Do signal the firing squad next :) great video bro I love your channel!
Thanks man !!
Thanks for this, man. I was in high school when all of this stuff came out, and it's nice to look back on it almost 20 years later. Hard to believe it was that long ago now, but I still listen to a lot of it today. Currently binge watching your library of deep dives on the MySpace era. 🤘
Also, I'm glad you clarified the use of the f slur in incinerate.
Elysia is re releasing masochist they just posted about it a few days ago!
Seen them once with STYG I believe at a little record store in Doylestown PA. I will always rember that sho had such a good time
hah i saw them with styg in houston probably around 07. its been so long i cant remember but it was insane
You have to do one of these on It Dies Today. They practically set the standard for heavy at the time in 2004. A few weeks ago was the 20th anniversary of The Caitiff Choir being released.
i didnt know elysia were making a resurgance now it makes sense why people are wanting to buy my elysia tees and hoodies off me
Can you do Thy Art is Murder? Want to know more on the original vocalist
I know maybe prior to MySpace but BTBAM, Dead To Fall, It Dies Today, Glass Casket and the Black Dahlia Murder would be good topics.
MY THUMBS OR IN YOU'RE EYES,AND THEY KEEP FUCKING PUSHIN!!❤... Man i remember bumping that shit every day back then!!! Thanks for making this video sir i forgot about that gem
🤘🏻🔥
I love this content. This is a time capsule! This album ruled my high school years.
Are we not gonna mention that their logo is typed with a free font?
Can You Please Do a Video on the band *PenKnifeLoveLife* ?? Pleeeeease🙏🙏🙏
They were one of my favorite bands from that era & they disappeared with no explanation.
@xTheYan
They dropped "2am" & "Pyphorias Lover" (their two best songs i would recommend listening to) & then nothing..?
The GOATS! Sick video as always 🔥
Appreciate it 🔥🤘🏻
Elysia was my favorite band in the fucking world.
So weird, never listed to this band and I was at my prime age during this time but just never gave them a listen but most definitely checking out this video and maybe then I will get into them 🤘🏻🤘🏻
hell yeah !! Give it a shot, they're awesome
thank you brother this is so good i would love an interview
Now this is the one I’ve been waiting for! Also what about knights of the abyss. I feel like dragon pie changed so many lives lol
I always thought the Lion of Judas was pretty good. A lot of people dislike it, but it had good variety. Great video non the less!
True !! And thank you
Hey bro, even though I don't watch or listen to podcasts, seeing a full visual interview/conversation with you and Zak would be great.
I’m from Chico ca. used to go to shows in Sac all the time in high school. 2005-2008. Such a good time in life.
Ive had the Lion of Judas eye as my phone background/lock screen ever since it came out. Til this day
This chanell is pure gold! I love it!!
Thanks !! 🤘🏻🔥
My buddies had a band back in the day and opened for them in St Louis . Circa 2008 . tremble behind the trigger, Elysia and Stick to your guns. Was a fun time to be 19 yrs old
I got my nose broken at an Elysia show at Showcase (RIP🥺) in Corona, CA. I love these mf’erz so much. Hella yeah. Solid vid.
Listened to their Demo a long time ago. Had no idea they were from Shingle Springs. Thanks for the Nostalgia 🤘
Sucks for the shirt that got stolen, but its so cool that you have a copy of Masochist !
Cheers
Thank you very much for your kind words, truly means a lot to me
So stoked you did this video! I have always loved this band. Saw them I think in 07 in Augusta Georgia at a summer festival called sausage fest. They crushed it!
So glad the remastered Masochist. Got a vinyl and tape copy. Sounds killer
The first two clip are from showcase theatre in corona, California for This City Is burning records label release party featuring Emmure, Elysia, Underneath The Gun, Austin Francis, The Light Season, Unite & Conquer. This was a good show and if you look closely you might see me in the pit
Was at the show at 2:10. and 32:00 absolute chaos
Damn i miss Java jazz. Saw winds of plague play there years ago
very cool !!
So thankful to have seen these guys perform in Tampa back in like ‘08/‘09
I was about 16 (2006) when I first heard of Elysia.
Let me get those shirts 😊
@@kaptainkes The Lion of Judas shirt is all black with the eye from album art but in blue. Size Medium. The George Bush shirt has the sleeves cut off. Size Medium as well.
Do The Irish Front and Knights of the Abyss!
Lol fuckin Irish front. I forgot how much I loved them
He did a really awesome interview with btst records like 6 months ago, it's like 3 hours and on TH-cam
