I wouldnt call Schürrle the first option on the wing, more likely Reus or Götze. Podolski and Draxler also have chances.

I get the feeling Germany will go all the way to the Finals. I saw their friendly against Armenia...When they allow a mistake, they learn from it quickly, not like before. Their defense in the Armenian match locked down after allowing a penalty kick to tie up the game. And then, the Germans attacked. And they won it 6 - 1. If Germany plays like that through the Tournament, they will blaze through. But, regardless of where they finish the tournament, I am PROUD of this team. I LOVE this team. I will always support them, no matter what!

That shows how Germany are and were often underestimated because they don't have a Neymar/Messi/Ronaldo and neither did they have that many great ballhandlers in the past five decades.

no they weren't underrated. eevryone considered them top 3 favorites easily it's just that brazil were home nation. and neymar isn't as good as the germans
Nishu Afobunor Yes, Germany were among the top 4 favorites to win the world cup, but they didn't have that one star player, that German Messi or Neymar who's expected to make the difference in the late stages of a world cup. And it's not that the Germans were bloody beginners that are intimidated by a whole stadium that booos them, specially the Bayern players that have gained mental extra power after winning the Champions League with Bayern. So making Brazil the favorites over Germany just because more fans would support Brazil than Germany, that was a little too simple by the media. But Germany have a history of being underestimated and yet making it to the (semi)final.

I think it's interesting to look back at this profile with the games still in mind. Lahm said that if you lose your first game you're under pressure for the other two group matches - see what happened to Portugal after their 0-4 defeat. They proceeded to have trouble getting back on their feet while germany headed towards the knockout phase with a running start. There were tough games no doubt, but in the end the boys made it.

Liked how the Germans gave said the US is challenging. My team is. They almost equalized against Belgium. Those who said that the US deserved to lost, not necessarily. Their attempts at the end where very close. And i wouldn't have any doubt of Howard carrying them in a penalty shootout.
FC Tam Tim Howard had to play one of the best matches of his career to keep the US in the game. And when a goalkeeper is the man of the match, it means that his teammates were constantly outplayed by the opposite team. But I'm not hating on US soccer. Not every nation can be a soccer nation.

Thomas Hanel those are all great players, especially Gerd Muller and Seeler but Franz is the greatest German player, even if he was just a defender. Most people agree on that.

And it really depends on how you measure success....you can just as well say that Klose is the best, not just because of the record, but because he won four medals in a row (silver, bronze, bronze, gold), something no other player ever did. Beckenbauer is certainly legendary, but so are many other players for various reasons.

My bet is that Germany, Brazil, Argentina and maybe Italy will see semi/finals this year. There are teams like Argentina that have many world class players, but fear the Germans because they are very strategic and frequently change their playing style according to their opponents and even within a match, this is the key to their success. They are a hard team to predict! All the best for Argentina and Germany.
