I just ordered a black and white 2XL. I’ve used iPhones exclusively since the 3GS and always found it very limited in many ways. Don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely a fan of iOS and iPhones in general but I’m excited to step out of that ecosystem and see what pure android has to offer. A bit of off-axis blue shifting is definitely not a big enough issue to avoid the Pixel in my opinion. There are so many more W’s in its column than there are L’s and if I’m going to sink my teeth into android, I want to experience it in its best form and be the first to receive updates when it inevitably gets better. I considered getting an S8/S8+ for a bit but after seeing how well tuned Google’s software experience is, along with a few other things I liked much more about the Pixel 2XL, it really wasn’t a competition in my mind.
Kyle Stewart I switched from iOS after being on apple for ten years ,the whole time since their have been smartphones. Lots of reviewers chose this phone as there daily and I knew there had to be something to it , best decision I've ever made , stock Android is so smooth , everything is better , notifications , custom home screens , this is how a smartphone should be , I don't think I'll ever go back to apple. You won't regret it :)
It is fast ! I bought the phone and I have it one month now ... It is far the best smartphonehone I ever had and I'm pretty sure it's one of the best that are on the market right now !!! I was an apple user. It is fast , it is beautiful , it's light , it takes the best pictures , 4k stunning videos , pictures I upload on my Instagram page many people think that are from a DSLR but it's this god damn phone ! unlimited storage and the best part of it ... It is smart ! It's like my personal assistant with the new Google Assistant and Allo app literally can help me with so many things that sometimes feels like you're talking to a person. I Iove the phone. I really hope it will get the attention it really deserves cause at least in my country the popularity doesn't even know that there is a Google phone made . :) XXX
"So while it was definitely weird for me at first to squeeze the phone instead of touching a button to launch an app, it did pretty quickly get pretty easy" You are just hating
Of course the first time a new smartphone feature arises you have to ask yourself "Is this actually useful in my everyday life?" The same thing happened with dual camera systems, curved screen edges, and shrunken bezels. Also, and this is just my opinion, squeezing your phone to launch any app and having that app load up at the same speed it would've had you tapped on it from the app drawer _is_ a gimmick. But squeezing your phone to open one application at a _much faster speed in a more convenient way_ than you originally could, is a genuinely good feature. Instead of taking two or three seconds to open your phone and long press the home button or saying "Okay Google" before your question (which you should take into account can be a bit frustrating for people who don't speak English as their first language as saying it in even slightly worse pronunciation doesn't register due to your first voice model), you just squeeze the phone and start speaking almost simultaneously. Like Marques said, it's the fastest way to trigger the Assistant and that's why it works here. So yeah, on the U11 it's a fun gimmick, on the Pixel 2, it's a legit useful feature due to how well it's optimized and specified.
I look forward to MKBHD reviews. I find they're more practical, less overblown or click-baity. Like with the display, he said it how it is. The color gamut isn't all there and other than prime viewing angles have a blue hue. But he doesn't blow it out of proportion like it's so terrible that everyone shouldn't buy it, like some reviews have. Keep it up! :)
Scott Kepple not too sure of that. I don't own the phone but I use my phone at night for on average 2-4 hours in bed. Isn't that prime conditions for grain and such? I would imagine a non-trivial amount of people do the same.
oh please you wouldn't even notice this "grain" in the first place. And even in bed I'm looking directly at my phone. I have a 6P which has a limited viewing angle like MOST smartphones and it has never bothered me.
Alexandra Comaduran when the Bluetooth battery dies I like the option of wires. I don't even like blue tooth. Plus, you know how many times I've dropped my phone and it was saved from hitting the ground because I caught it by the wire? lol
Alexandra Comaduran yeah that aux cable is the truth. then you can hook it up to mom Bluetooth speakers. I hate phones that dont have the headphone jack. I like options.
The quality over quantity is what defines mkbhd for me. He doesn't care about just pushing out a review asap instead he acknowledges everything, Even the small details. :D u r awesome! Why does this have so many likes!? U guys made my day!
HTC U11 had the squeeze feature, nobody cared. Now it's loved on the pixel. LG G5 had a layer of polymer on the metal body and everybody hated it. Now it's loved on the pixel. LG (and samsung?) had the small window feature. It was considered bloatware. Now it's cool on the pixel. I love all of these phones but how is this a thing?
The squeeze feature on the U11 is better. It can be customized to open any app and you can use short squeezes or long squeezes to do different things. I use a short squeeze to open the camera and take shots. The long squeeze i use for taking screenshots. Just an example. The HTC U ultra was a bit of a flop but the U11 is a brilliant phone. It even comes with very good headphones to help with that missing headphone jack. The U11 is very underrated like most HTC phones. Its a shame.
veloxian The squeeze feature is way better on the u11, but people wrote it off as a gimmick. You could set it to launch the camera, take a picture, take a screenshot, bring up Google Assistant among other things. Google set it up so it could only launch google Assistant. How is it a gimmick on the u11 and not this google phone?
I really liked the way you explained the issue with the screen. You gave it all the time it needed and shared your own views. And on top of that you didn't say that nit picking was bad because "it's just a phone". Thank you very much for explaining the problem, and for really understanding those people who find the pixel expensive but still buy it expecting a perfect phone for his/her personal needs. For some the screen issue is no biggie, for others, it is and someone might not want to drop 800 bucks on an imperfect screen. So kudos to you for explaining it so so well😀
Because on the marketing pitch LG does says "All Metal Phone" and trying pretty hard to not admit the plastic primer layer they used on g5. That's the problem.
THE DAY HAS FINALLY COME!!! But seriously. I've been watching a ton of reviews as they were coming out trying to make a good choice but I always wait until your review drops before I make a decision about a phone. I think you have some of the best opinions and taste and I will always take your word on a phone. Thanks for all the effort you put into your videos! They have helped me a ton in making informed decisions for years and I will continue to base those decisions off of your input! Great work man! Big things!
Thanks for the review Marques. It helps add some nuance and perspective to this past week of news. My girlfriend and I ordered 2 xl 2's on launch and have been worried as hell about this screen gate garbage. Your insight helped a lot, thanks man.
+Andrew Barber His insight may not be applicable to you btw because displays can be very finicky and vary from customer to customer. Always check your display from time to time so that if anything happens to it, you can still exchange it, if you have it within your warranty period. Good luck dude !
Aditya Ghosal thanks dude I just hope that the cases of issues are few and far between. I actually bought the insurance anyhow so that's always an option if they ever update the panel 6mos later.
I’m only halfway through this video, and I already feel you’ve given me the most in-depth review of this phone so far. So many more features than I originally thought.
hardyman Not the next best thing. I don't think Marques believes that it's that amazing of a feature, not at all. Come on the speakers, software, camera, design all that is above that.
Why can't we have the OLED display of Samsung, Build Quality of S8, Finger Print Sensor of Pixel 2, Battery of OnePlus 5, Camera Colours of iPhone,Sharpness and Dynamic Range of Pixel and Software experience of Stock clean Android?
I've been keeping an eye on Pixel 2 because of how recommended the camera is...but this color space issue is definitely a huge deal, especially if you're considering Adobe Lightroom mobile as an option for touching up photos
Luke what if is something not known but what we do know is the next Google phone is what some people are after. I have the pixel XL just not getting this one.
if you didn't notice in his 5 minute careless review of HTC U11 he didnt care/wasn't paid by HTC to care enough to remember the name of the phone he himself reviewed a few months ago. and yet we are meant to take his opinion on it seriously? lol.
Currently running my iPhone 6... Been staying relatively up to date with what Apple's been doing. Nothing I've seen so far has rocked my world enough to upgrade, and I'm genuinely impressed with how my iPhone has held up over the years. But I'm getting fed up with the little things. Examples: Instagram suiciding itself whenever I try to use the new features; I don't even use Snapchat anymore because of how slowly it runs; limited storage capacity and I refuse to pay for more cloud storage. After watching no less than 30 videos comparing the best smartphones, I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the Moto G6. At only $250, it will at least serve as a well-performing bridge until one of these phones really sets themselves apart to me. Mr Brownlee, keep slaying the reviews my friend!
This same fine guy in the U11 review: "The squeeze feature seems to be just a gimmick that I wouldn't use" "It's unnatural to squeeze a phone" *All the sudden it's soooo cool and useful in this Pixel even when all it does is launch Google Assistant while the U11 launches basically everything on the phone with 2 types of squeezes*
I understand, but I believe it is important in this video as I want to know if the Pixel 2 XL passes the screen criteria as he said that in each of the 5 pillars the phone should do "not just good, great"~MKBHD in Note 8 vid. As the feel I got from this review that it is an OK screen, and I think that this is not good enough
5 pillars of a great smartphone: Great build quality, Great Display, Great Camera, Great Performance, and a Great Battery. if a smart phone do all these well, then in his opinion it qualifies as a great smartphone.
Don't worry you can buy a Bluetooth adaptor for your normal headphones, you just plug them into the adaptor and they are now Bluetooth. The adaptors are very cheap, you just charge them up plug your headphones in and you now have Bluetooth headphones, and the adaptors are about the size of a coin so not that bulky.
I think an underrated aspect of the pixel 2 is the microphone. I'm not sure if I'm just used to having a bad phone, but videos from concerts in the front row a;ways have clear audio and not the speaker breaking blast of other phones I've had in the past. Definitely the best phone I've ever owned, even two years later.
I have the Pixel 2 and the bezels have never bothered me. They're not that big in person. The screens only 5", the phone would've been way too tiny had they made it edge to edge.
HTC must be like, we make so visually appealing phones and yet nobody buys them. We create half decent hardware, missing basic hardware but partner with Google, and surprisingly it's the next big thing.
girlsdrinkfeck You think LG makes bad display? That's not true tho, I thought their displays are the only displays comparable with Samsung's displays (from what everybody said) and that should stand true since they do look nice.
@@rizdog5735 idk man, the reviewers only judged by the numbers, as someone who's used the phone, All I can say is that it's a great phone but the only flaw is it's not worth a 1000$. The battery is pretty great too actually. Can google do better? yes, but overall I'm satisfied with the user experience, the design and the camera
That's what he is paid by Google (and Apple) to do... Sucking on their cocks. This is not a review... it's an advertisement. The LG-manufactured screen is terrible... it's grainy, its viewing angle is like 10 degrees, you get a huge color change by moving the phone in your hand. It's impossible for a "reviewer" not to notice it... he jus decided to not tell you that and apologize for Google.
Junaid Khan Wow, someone who likes Android and likes an android phone is biased.. Totally biased, and you're biased towards what you like.. See the logic?
jeromesnail Umm, you know he gets paid from TH-cam regardless of the review results, right? Just like the ubiquity of other reviewers with a range of view points. So what, he likes a phone.
Junaid Khan better hardware doesn't necessarily means better phone.. v30's software is just ridiculous and I can assure you it will lag after 7-8 months.. if hardware is everything then oneplus 5, xiaomi mi mix 2 would be the best phone.. pixel will be as smooth as an iPhone upto 2-2.5 years
Today is April 2023. I have this device for 5 years, I bought it new in the box. This device is very cool. However it has a weak battery. Even a new battery barely lasts for one day. I replaced the battery after 3 years of use. Today he has a different battery. For 2 years of use its capacity is 89%. This is about 4 hours of screen time

Alexandra Comaduran yeah that aux cable is the truth. then you can hook it up to mom Bluetooth speakers. I hate phones that dont have the headphone jack. I like options.
Brooklyn Jones its something that also stops me from jumping onto this phone immediately:/
Woah, the camera is incredible! That pretty much sells it for me, great review👍
They quoted you in the newest commercial
Which one?
Cross X the pixel 2 with the song - i need youuuu. Baby. You can make my hearrrrrt - gooround. Youuuuuuuuuuu. You can make my heart... Goround
ron Can I have the link please?
After all of this years, I finally bought it (just because of it's cheap now😉).Love this bad boy🔥🔥🔥
I fucking love the pure Android experience
@@rubaiyatmehedi9337 And the camera is in a whole new level.
@@foysalhossain1301 but I still need an ultrawide as well as a telephoto sensor.
@@rubaiyatmehedi9337 maybe we will get an ultra wide sensor in pixel 4.
@@foysalhossain1301 the leaks say so.
The quality over quantity is what defines mkbhd for me. He doesn't care about just pushing out a review asap instead he acknowledges everything, Even the small details. :D u r awesome!
Why does this have so many likes!? U guys made my day!
i_n_s_e_k_t he does rush it. His just biased toward Apple, Samsung, Google and the other reviews are half-assed
Watch Dave 2D if you want to see better narrative reviews
i_n_s_e_k_t bit like Erica Griffin but she goes waaaay in depth too much and blabbs on and on about the displays gamma etc nobody cares lol
i_n_s_e_k_t lol but on some reviews just this year he dosent acknowledge some things i expected him to
i_n_s_e_k_t indeed I love how he takes his time
You said apple uses 1p68 water resistent like samsung but apple uses ip67 like google
Because same/similar features can be implemented in better ways than they were before or by other people.
Squeeze feature is better on the U11 though
Google is a fucking gimmick.
I love watching MKBHD's videos again & again.
If nobody comes from the future to
stop you, how bad can the decision
really be?
Gotta remember this argument
So that was Hitlers argument?
I really liked the way you explained the issue with the screen. You gave it all the time it needed and shared your own views. And on top of that you didn't say that nit picking was bad because "it's just a phone". Thank you very much for explaining the problem, and for really understanding those people who find the pixel expensive but still buy it expecting a perfect phone for his/her personal needs. For some the screen issue is no biggie, for others, it is and someone might not want to drop 800 bucks on an imperfect screen. So kudos to you for explaining it so so well😀
everyone bashed LG for plastic coating the metallic G5, now that google has done the same..it's cool and convenient and UNIQUE!
XL 2 is still metal but has coating
Google has become the Apple of Android phones.
Max Bardus Anf the G6
Good Vibes they are trying very hard because Apple rules the smartphone market.
Because on the marketing pitch LG does says "All Metal Phone" and trying pretty hard to not admit the plastic primer layer they used on g5. That's the problem.
Pixel 9 is out and I'm still watching a man review a pixel 2.
Deja Vu
THE DAY HAS FINALLY COME!!!
But seriously. I've been watching a ton of reviews as they were coming out trying to make a good choice but I always wait until your review drops before I make a decision about a phone. I think you have some of the best opinions and taste and I will always take your word on a phone. Thanks for all the effort you put into your videos! They have helped me a ton in making informed decisions for years and I will continue to base those decisions off of your input! Great work man! Big things!
TH-cam just recommended this video ...AND I STILL LOVE MY PIXEL 2!
Yes dear^_^o:-)
The Pixel 2 is a great phone
The iPhone X is a great phone
The Galaxy’s are great phones
Can everybody stop shitting on other people’s preferences?
samsung s9 is awesome
Because fanboys are retards
Galaxy phones are ass, so no.
Not U ultra it was U11 with the squeeze feature
Arun Gupta notice the squeeze feature was a gimmick on the HTC but on the pixel it's the next best thing.
I think it's handy for launching my camera on my u11
hardyman Not the next best thing.
You'll get the desired phone if you replace this screen with Samsung Super AMOLED panel. Everything else is perfect in this phone I guess.
Don't forget a headphone jack
Because Swinesung OLED are fucking garbage. Anyone with a brain would stay away from that trash.
*headphone jack and Quad DAC of LG v30
And the performance of an iPhone 8
watching this in May 2021! love going back to older reviews of tech
When you said "OK Google" my Google assistant turned on! 😂
The GameAHolic did it? Really? Wow! That's fucking crazy man!
Lol my phone got stuck when he said ok google 😂😂
zubin razak Don't you have voice recognition? Unless your voice sounds nearly the same on his, your Assistant shouldn't have popped up.
Google Pixel 2 Review? THAT IS *17 MINUTES LONG?* Shittttt
LeBeautiful my exact reaction
Don't click on this, it's not Marques Brownlee. It's one of those scam complete 10 offers and we will give you a gift card links.
does it work though
shut the ufck up go study
LeBeautiful your back
those selfies were crispy my dude
Pixel 9 is gonna launch soon and I'm still watching this guy reviewing the Pixel 2
Us bruhh 😅😅
Is it smarter than a 5th grader though?
Jacob R I'd watch the fuck outta that reality show😊
Marques Brownlee Official you're fucking pathetic
Fifth graders have more ports...
true point.. it is though
I have my doubts!
I've been keeping an eye on Pixel 2 because of how recommended the camera is...but this color space issue is definitely a huge deal, especially if you're considering Adobe Lightroom mobile as an option for touching up photos
Looks great. I'm getting the Pixel 3.
that was literally my exact same thought process.
Thought the same thing
Wat if they dont release a pix 3?
Luke what if is something not known but what we do know is the next Google phone is what some people are after. I have the pixel XL just not getting this one.
Pixel 8 is out and im watching this man reviewing the pixel 2😂
Me too lol
As usual.. what a great video
Marques Brownlee Official please fuck off, impersonator.
SBS 3920B LMFAO
Screen on Pixel 2 XL is Shit.
Kailem K you're the shit
Only because he gets the phones before everyone else and has a budget to shoot cool videos!
Marques. All of the iPhones are ip67, not 68.
Ok I wasn't crazy
Yeah. All iPhones are IP67.
ibol13 not the iPhone 2G
Only from the 7 and up
ibol13 since 2016
And the HTC U11 has the squeeze feature not the U Ultra
if you didn't notice in his 5 minute careless review of HTC U11 he didnt care/wasn't paid by HTC to care enough to remember the name of the phone he himself reviewed a few months ago. and yet we are meant to take his opinion on it seriously? lol.
Same thing with LG V30
Robert Hardy HTC don't paid that only problem.
Too bad the display on the XL is garbage. Terrible viewing angles, inconsistent colors and burn in after a week. And I wanted this phone. Sad :(
17 minutes of information for this wonderful device .. Thank you 👏👏🌷
This same fine guy in the U11 review:
"The squeeze feature seems to be just a gimmick that I wouldn't use" "It's unnatural to squeeze a phone"
*All the sudden it's soooo cool and useful in this Pixel even when all it does is launch Google Assistant while the U11 launches basically everything on the phone with 2 types of squeezes*
Pixel 7 pro is out and I'm still watching a man review a pixel 2.
What happened to your 5 pillars?!
what are those
He does not use it in all the videos
I understand, but I believe it is important in this video as I want to know if the Pixel 2 XL passes the screen criteria as he said that in each of the 5 pillars the phone should do "not just good, great"~MKBHD in Note 8 vid. As the feel I got from this review that it is an OK screen, and I think that this is not good enough
5 pillars of a great smartphone: Great build quality, Great Display, Great Camera, Great Performance, and a Great Battery. if a smart phone do all these well, then in his opinion it qualifies as a great smartphone.
The pixel would easily fail 2 of those and Google wouldnt be happy about it.
The app drawer changing color accordng to wallpaper is dope... And awesome review.. nobody will notice such little feats..
Yathu prem It actually changes the whole UI apart from settings
Samsung s8 adapts to wallpaper/whats on the screen alot too
Yathu prem What?
Same on iPhones & Galaxies. Nothing special
Samuel_bo @Mlordy no s8 does, what are u guys taking about?
Can't afford still watching lol!
Nickk Bisht just sell your suit
I Robbed Your Car No cuz that suit makes other feel that I must be keeping Iphone/pixel in my pockets 😂
Nickk Bisht but if you sell your suit, you can actually have them in your pockets. Tf?
Nickk Bisht haha... you might someday! i own iphone 6+ n i am hoping to buy this/iphone8 someday 😂
Rachel_ I just started TH-cam channel, once It grows successfully I will own one for sure.... Thanks for wishes.
Pixel 8 is out and I'm still watching a legend review a Pixel 2
No headphone jack -_- CAN ANYONE FCKING TELL ME WHY DO COMPANIES DO THIS?!!!!
Wireless is where we are headed to, I personally don't mind since my buds are wireless already
so that we'll buy Bluetooth headphones.. then they'll gain more money!!!
Because they claim 'consumers' 'want' thinner phones and 'waterproofing' gets easier. Or sometimes 'modernization'
CAN ANYONE FUCKING TELL ME WHY WE NO LONGER HAVE FLOPPY DISK AS THE INDUSTRY STANDARD?! There's your answer. Time to move on.
Intro is dope 😎
Dope Tech: INTRO
Radheshyam Kharva I know I made it! Thanks! :)
HighMagnitudeGT liar
Imback 2killu it's really dope man.
You make the best reviews, hands down
About to get my Pixel 7 Pro arrive tomorrow and I'm watching Marques review the Pixel 2 XD
I'm really impressed and enjoying the Pixel 2 reviews, sadly won't ever get it but it's good to look at it!!
Who is here after Pixel 3 launch?
All really did
I can't afford it so I buy a refurbished Pixel 2 XL
Cant wait for the LG V30 review
I think an underrated aspect of the pixel 2 is the microphone. I'm not sure if I'm just used to having a bad phone, but videos from concerts in the front row a;ways have clear audio and not the speaker breaking blast of other phones I've had in the past. Definitely the best phone I've ever owned, even two years later.
Yeah, getting the XL next week, so excited, moving from a iPhone 7 to the XL, I'm done using ios at this point
Finally a phone with dual front facing speakers. After 4 years I can finally replace my HTC One M7!! Thank god!
Harry Baker that HTC was amazing
Harry Baker :\ that phone was ahead of its time. If that phone came out now with all new guts and oled display I would get it.
Nexus 6P was my first front facing speakers phone and I couldn't be happier to go back after trying the iPhone 7 plus
My moto x style/pure also have it.
Most of Sony's Xperia phones had, and have, dual front facing speakers.
Even Google is so ashamed of pixel 2's big bezels that all they showed in their io was pixel 2 xl's front and pixel 2's back.
yeah honestly i'd love the regular pixel 2 if it weren't for those bezels. the xl is just so much more aesthetically pleasing
Lots of people don't care about anything other than the GOOGLE logo on the name
but pixel 2 XL has a inferior display because LG made it ,
girlsdrinkfeck You think LG makes bad display? That's not true tho, I thought their displays are the only displays comparable with Samsung's displays (from what everybody said) and that should stand true since they do look nice.
Fawad Bilgrami 😂ikr
Fawad Bilgrami software experience...... marketing......lack of accessories...all attribute to "no one buying them"
I'm so happy with my pixel 2, I had a Iphone 7 plus. I wanted an upgrade, didn't expect to get a phone that is in my eyes genuinely perfect.
Should I get it now?
You saying "okay google" triggered my phone's ok Google response
Who's here after the Pixel 4 review?
Me
Me
The Pixel 4 was a disappointment can't you see how enlightened he is in this review?
@@rizdog5735 idk man, the reviewers only judged by the numbers, as someone who's used the phone, All I can say is that it's a great phone but the only flaw is it's not worth a 1000$. The battery is pretty great too actually.
Can google do better? yes, but overall I'm satisfied with the user experience, the design and the camera
If you pay $700 + for a phone, then you expect good quality control...
Cameron Bell And quality is what you'll get, pixel has the best most reliable software on a smartphone.
I want the intro in infinite time loop...been watching again and again.....never gets tired of it
Can we have an LG V30 review
Ajlal Gilani no review needed its great phone overall
Joseph Canals i think he mentioned it in his Livestream a couple of weeks back or something
*hates on u11 then loves u11s squeeze feature when placed in pixel*
74beef Agreed. MKBHD is being a biased fanboy hypocrite unfortunately. But it IS a silly gimmicky feature that is quite stupid.
I was not a fan of this phone but your detail review made me its fan
Thumbs up for you & for this phone, 👍
It's like tech reviewers on TH-cam were paid by google.
Wait, they are.
