Mike was to worried about the queen giving a check. So he blocked. But the check would have been pointless so going offensive with the night was the right move. Which is what you said at the end.
This guy is like my Man's Carlini when it comes to word play, but crazy with it.
I think Mike can can his games more seriously, but it isn't in him to do so at this point.

At the end of the video the commenter states "mike is getting better" and that's great but we don't watch him for the wins, we watch him for the Character (personality). I find myself saying in my own games, "THAT DOESN'T DO ANYTHING", with a Boston accent. Then I loose, just like Mike.
I am a bad chess player, but it did seem like he played pretty well for his general level of play. Entertaining game, which is great. I am happy youtube is showing people chess can be fun, I think it has a rep for being boring. But a lot of people may have been introduced to blitz chess online, along with the looser environment of these sorts of games.

I love watching Mike, I won quite a few matches from talking trash to my opponents and had them lose their concentration. People keep on calling him a trash talker is quite harsh.

6:24 I think forcing the trades of the rooks and queen by playing rook f7 puts black in an easier to win position.
I played it out on lichess against Stockfish on the highest level, and I was able to finish out the game with Black victory (and I'm a shitty player lol, probably around 700-1000ish range). The black King and pawns are just in a more favorable position after all is traded out.
Now obviously it is more flashy to win without taking downward material trade, but I feel like for lower skill players such as myself, reducing the board in that situation is favorable.
EDIT: Ah, after a closer look, White obviously doesn't have to take the trade as they can just check the king with the rook, so its not a forced trade. Stockfish took the trade though, so I guess it was considered a likely move anyway. Under the time pressure, maybe a lot of human players would take the trade as offered as well.
Fwiw, black had a forced mate in 10 through Qxf3+. :-) ... and the c pawn isn't passed, so while still a good deal ahead, black isn't certain of the win without the two pieces there to settle the dust.
Why not catch the pawn at left in 2:30?
I know he would have to come back, but... in a taugh game, better get some chances.
yes Qxa4 is considered the best move in that position... but that's by engines. Hubris makes men want to play flashy instead of safely. ^^
Also that wouldn't be a free pawn since white can immediately take c4 without losing the knight, since that also discovered-attacked the queen.
@@irrelevant_noob,i was not sure was the best move, thanks to answer. After what u said i was calculating here and probably the white queen will get the b7 pawn.
After kc4, white in Qb5, knight back in a5, and white pawn in b4 to exchange and atack knight.. and quen get b7, but after that pawn in A4 will come well protected.
@@thaba3773 the answer to b4 attacking the knight could be cxb4 and later Nc3 (defended by the bishop) blocking the rook from the defense of b4, so when Qxb7 Rab8 and black can have the pawn back. :-)

Nah that's just sacrificing material for no apparent gain. And an engine says that taking the knight isn't even the best reply, it's Bxg2. :-)
Fwiw, in that position, R1b2, Rxc6, and e3 are the top 3 lines leaving white at least equal if not _very_ slightly ahead (+0.06).
