Maybe sell the Ioniq to a customer that can get good out of the 28kWh version. Try the MG for a few months and then move on to try something else that comes into stock. You will miss this Ioniq though.
I have used CCS at Holiday Inn High Wycombe M40J4, also Miller & Carter Beaconsfield not far off M40J2 (both Polar) - and both worked when I needed them
Definitely keep the Ioniq. Most efficient EV and will be for some time. CCS will become the predominant charging standard, either Ecotricity will get their act together or will be replaced by a more reliable up to date provider. The Ioniq has faster rapid charge capability too
I understand your dilemma but my vote is keep the Ioniq. On my test drive I found the MG motor whines and the front charging port flap is a terrible design, but I do like front charging ports for easy bay access and not having to reverse in and be on the correct side. This is why the Ecotricity monopoly on the motorway service stations is strangling the roll out from other suppliers such as Instavolt, who are adding stations daily to many locations including McDonalds and KFC. Get yourself a 38kWh Premium SE 😉
@@KiwiShoot I've been driving the MG for 1.5 weeks now and I've got used to the motor whine and don't find it an problem at all. In fact the MG is definitely quieter at motorway speed than the Ioniq, which surprised me. Part 2 video here th-cam.com/video/NdaYWUGPkNE/w-d-xo.html
Too bad you don’t have 240 mile range EVs like here in the states! I wouldn’t want either...The ionic is nice but not enough range for me if I have to drive to Pittsburgh and back 3 times a month! I got the Chevy Bolt EV! I’m sorry you don’t have that available to you in the UK.
Is the residual value of your Ioniq approximately the same as the newer MG? I'm guessing the MG would be a little more expensive? Consider the onboard AC charge speeds of both cars. Where I live there are hundreds of type2 chargers for every one DC charger. Hence how fast they can AC charge would be important.
Based on the Hyundai I owned for a few years (an i30), which was totally reliable and well built, I can't see the MG coming close given the forum comments I've read from owners...... The best you might hope is that it would be *as* good, but I can't see it..... The MG is very saleable right now because of the "buzz" surrounding it, but that is likely to wane once other EV's come along and market choice grows further.... If you kept the Ioniq, that would also sell when you'd be ready to move it on, because Hyundai have now earned their own reputation as being well built, reliable cars. Quality and reliability are always in demand. The Ioniq is, in my humble opinion, one of the more stylish looking EV's.
@@jerrym1401 It would be hard to find a used MG ZS EV yet, as they've only been out for about a year and most will still be tied up in finance agreements with the first owners. You tend to see models come into the used market when they are three years old and coming out of their leases/PCPs from the first owners. As to exporting to Ireland, I've stopped exports some a couple of years ago as it involves extra process, tax forms etc. Probably easier to source one in NI and that obviously saves the ferry costs.
Wow Ecotricity is a mess. Grant Shapps should see this video. The infrastructure just isn't getting there fast enough. That's not some minor route. (What an unfaithful owner you are!).
Given a year has passed, and subsequent videos to this show you using the MG ZS, do you feel you made the right decision? There's no reason why I wouldn't get another one one day.
MG ZS EV absolutely fantastic car yea it’s Chinese and it’s no Tesla but it’s made by saic which use good parts and components like Bosch etc and saic is one of the most well known manufacturers of electric vehicle motors for trains, busses, trams and cars and you get a lot of car for your money. Other EVs with fancier branding may be assembled elsewhere but pretty sure most of the components are still Chinese manufactured. It’s silly that people hate on mainstream Chinese products these days when every country manufactures cheap crap in some way or another. Only snobs and people that have never ridden one would shun it. More fool them it keeps the cost down for people like me.
I can't see how they could or should. The charge networks are private companies operating on private land. What it needs at Beaconsfield services is for Shell to put some rapid chargers on their huge forecourt there. Then people can vote with their feet and use the others on the same site.
I can't decide between these either. I'm looking to buy an EV and these are the two that my budget has led me to. I'm impressed with the Ioniq, but I can get a newer MG for the same money. Also I watched a TH-cam video recently by someone called Dave Newbery in which he showed what he said was corrosion on the underside at the weld points. It's put me off a bit because I tend to keep my cars for several years. I haven't helped you with your choice. Sorry about that!
Yes I saw that video about he corrosion. I will get this MG on the lift and make a video about that subject too. But this one is only 10 months old, so I hope there isn't any rust so far.
I look forward to seeing your video of that. I hope it's not true! I also hope that you find the answer to your dilemma. Also, thanks for replying. Not many people on TH-cam do that! I'll be looking at your site when I buy my first EV!
Having driven and ridden in a number of EV’s while the MG will do the range it’s functionality is inferior to many EV’s. It lacks the ability to pre-condition on cold winter mornings, while it has regen modes you can only change them by looking down to the KERS toggle..no flappy paddles. The lane assist and adaptive cruise are unsophisticated and clunky. The hill hold function is ‘jumpy’ and difficult to select and de-select. The MG has no parking sensors at the front, plus the bonnet shape makes knowing where the front of the car is difficult. The rear camera has very poor resolution. Bottom line it will get the range, but is inferior compared to the Ioniq, I will be interested to hear your thoughts after you have lived with it for a few weeks. Remember the role out of new charging infrastructure is on a rapid ramp up and new chargers are coming on line exponentially. Happy Christmas to you and the family Matt and good luck with the MG.
