Running sub-5 when you're 15 and a twig is one thing. But completely insane when you're older and 194lbs of pure muscle. Props dude!
A sub 5:00 at 15 is beast mode, though I ran a 5:24 at 13,
(and then there are the truly great high schoolers who run sub 4:00 at 17)
@@proverbalizer I ran 4:47 at the end of my freshman year in highschool, I’m going into junior year now but I was prob 6 foot 130 pounds when I did that😂 I am an absolute twig but it helps!
@@C.McL2006 I’m 5’11 and 128 pounds yet barely able to run 8:50-9:00, lol.
@@Stryfe52 just work on your breathing, im 6'4 210 and am able to run around 6:50-7:00 just by working on breathing techniques.
@@clidah4041 That’s what I’ve been doing for the most part, but I have noticed that my legs get tired before my lungs - if I’m really running for endurance; my lungs kind of get tired as a result of that. Doing something like running really fast in short bursts - like in soccer or something - completely gases out my lungs though, long before my legs.
Any suggestions besides just moderating my breathing? I usually go 4 steps in, 4 steps out, or 2 steps in and 4 out.
i don’t think people who’ve never ran before know how insane this is
my best time for 1 mile was like 7min, could never go below 7 min
Right now I'm at a 5:16 mile, but I haven't ran that since February cause I was focusing on the 2 mile. Hopefully I can get there soon
@@ssgssleo2893 best of luck man, sounds like your getting there easy
Derek V. Bruce yeah but the fact that he’s 194 lbs is crazy
This is nuts... I've taken an interest in running and been trying to smash a good 1 mile time... my best to date is 6:55 at 238 lbs. Sub 5 is CRAZY.
I started running to better my health, i am 6 ft and weighed 250 lbs, and i have high blood pressure, i wasnt even able to run a straight mile without stopping, i was finally able to run a mile in 14 minutes, after my 2nd month of training i dropped down to 7:46 a mile, may not seem like much to some of you all but im very proud of that accomplishment. I am down to 220 lbs now! Good video here guys!
7:46 👏
nice
How’d you do it?
Yeah, how’d you do it?
@@jdtvproductions9449 Just run and focus on getting a better time each week. Even if that better time is only by 1 second.
im not sure if this guy really went down to 7 min in 2 months, but hey anything is possible.
once i hit the 6 min, its got way harder. I cant escape 5:50. ive gotten 5:38 and 5:40's but that was rare.
took me exactly a year to get down to 5:50..
take your time with it. dont injure yourself by pushing too much. no need for that.
Took less than 5 minutes to keep him happy for the entire week. Go out and get running guys!
The ultimate cardio.

Facts ...a good workout usually last me 3 days
A sub 5 minute mile at ANY weight is an outstanding achievement.
It is crazy when you really think about it
Yea but at 193 its nuts. I used to run XC in high school and I was never great but I was decent. My all time PR was 5:11 when I was 16 and weighed 125 pounds
I’m same height but 185, I think my current mile would be pretty ugly. ~5:30 range, this is really impressive to do it at that weight. Used to run in 4:30s but at 160.
@@pokerbuddy62 I ran XC this last year and my best was 5:35 at 150 pounds, got any tips for lowering that?
I was 4:25 at 115 lbs my junior year. It was an incredible achievement back then but I'd honestly never want that bodyweight again. 4 years later and im 150 lbs and I haven't run a mile since xD
"At some point in this run you're gonna see Jesus"
Anyone's who's ever given it all in a mile run knows that's the truth
We have a similar expresion in Greek. I saw Christ soldier. Είδα το Χριστό φαντάρο. Meaning I did something so tough that I had hallucination of seeing Jesus Christ dressed as soldier.
I used to run xc and track and vividly remember every race the last 800 m was all out . wanted to throw up every time lol
that real talk ..if u don't run long miles u won't overstand..
Yep. Hardcore runs will make you go mentally insane lol
Mile and 1,500m races, the last 300m is an all out effort and yes you see Jesus all up that straight away and around the turn, until you kick again with 100m to go and then all you see are spots before your eyes and the finish line seems like it's 1,000 miles away. My favorite part of the race BTW!
And to think that the man who broke 2 hours on the marathon (Eliud Kipchoge) had to run faster than this pace...for 26.2 miles. So insane to me. Very impressive time.
Kipchoge isn’t human
Much faster. 4:34 mile compared to 4:53 mile is a crazy difference. Like if you run 4:53 in high school as a guy you’re just above average, but not really competitive. If you run 4:34 you can qualify for regionals.
Kelvin Kiptum do it easily@@crosh3301
My PR is like 6:18 and I was top speed sprinting and was dying after. You’re a monster!!! People don’t understand how freaking hard this is.
My fastest mile running alone was around 6:15. At track meets I was hitting sub 5's, there's a huge mental aspect to running
@@Smokeizimaybe he wasn’t running at a track and there was hills?
I mean objectively, unless you're 4 feet tall or something it would not have felt like a sprint at all.
It's crazy how many people on here can run 4 minute miles
@@Who-Uhm-Cares youre a joke if you think its easy to run sub 5 minute mile.
We all know you can’t for sure
I run 5:04 but trust me now a days breaking 5 as a high schooler is chump change or at least where I compete kids are insane.
Ethan Tarrosa yeah my best time is 4:58 buts that’s nothing at my school
I’m 340 and run a 12 minute mile 😭😭
The fact that your pacer can coach, joke, and, laugh blows my mind. Today I retire from fitness.
Then the homie is just chilling ,while the nick out here dying
Hahahha
Dude that guy looks like he’s just doing it for fun lol
Being 50 pounds lighter I’m sure helps lol
4:15 mile fitness puts him in roughly 30:30 10k pace. Which is about the pace of this run. He could litterally run 5 more miles at that pace
I’m 6’1 240 and i finally made a mile in a little under 8 min and RIP to my shins
wow... its good.. keep running...
a mile is a mile. weather u run in 5 or 9
I am 225 and that’s after losing 70lbs I don’t know if I could ever do anything like this.
House it can be done. As a 23 year old Green Beret I ran my 2 mile Army PFT time of 9:46 while 6'4"/247 lbs. They called me Clydesdale!
Jed Fisher man that’s intense!!!
I just started running a month ago. My fastest 1 mile is still within 9 mins. I am aiming to run a mile within 6 or 7 mins. Root for me guys✌️
How’s the running going
@@itsjustme5097
Did 5k and also completed 10k.
But not able to achieve under 60min mark.
Been traveling last few weeks so running has some what came to halt. But will resume soon and try to achieve the Sub60 mark.

@@ChaitanyaBelhekar You got this. We all believe in you! 😎
@@ChaitanyaBelhekar new mile pr?
@@ChaitanyaBelhekar Chant 64 rounds bro and ill be even more impressed 👏
I think this is 3:02 / km - insane. Now imagine Kipchoge had to run 2:51 / km for 2 hours straight to do a 2 hour marathon run. I guess that's what you get when your name sounds like 'keep jogging'.
I'm convinced Eliud Kipchoge is a supernatural being.
He is a beast
Honestly before I started running I couldn’t formulate those figures as I didn’t have a reference point. Attempting to break a 6 min mile right now and being exhausted (fairly fast runner) it is literally the most mind-bending athletic event across any sport to be able to maintain a 13 mph or 4:28 pace for not just 1 mile, but 26.2 (two hours)
Most people can’t maintain this pace for 10 seconds, and he did for 2 hours. It is literally something out of a comic book.
Eliud Kipchoge is also 84 pounds lighter at 110.
Hahahaha
Best one
swear to god this channel just makes me wanna get better every single day.
Good. ..
@Farting Bean you know, you might be right...
Wow!!! Awesome job!
I was 270LBS last year in may. Lost 85lbs in the 1.5 years through diet alone and just started exercising. I found a love for running that started August 13, 2021. I’ve been consistent with my running and even ran 3miles non stop in 39:39! I run 2 miles 5-6 a week now. My first mile run time was 15-16 min. My current PR is 11:46! 😭 I can’t wait to see where I’m at 6 months from now and my goal is to get under 10min.
Keep it up!
Setting new P.R.'s is so much fun. always compete against yourself and you will have a blast. What are you at now?
You got this!
Good job!!!
Impressive. Keep it up. Make it a life style.
4:53 and your weight is seriously impressive. I was a cross country/track runner during hs and ran 4:40 at 175 ibs but I’m 6’4. Running has gotta be one of the most mental challenging sports in my biased opinion.
Dan Cater what you are failing to understand
Is I can do BOTH. I can run your mile in sub 5min, I’ve done it before. Took me 7months of focused training. I was stuck at 5:10 for a very long time. To break 5:00 was difficult for me, it took an all out sprint bc I weigh easily 30lbs more than you.
I have row’d your row, and run your run. I have taken it to the next level. That’s what I am saying.
Best of luck in your training. Bc my few reps of the box jumps completely Trump all the time and effort you are putting into your boring row. Beat yourself up all you want. I’m saying if you grew some balls you wouldn’t have to train so much to be in just as good, if not better shape, than you are now. That, is what I am saying. You are just at the beginning. You have much much more to learn.
@@dpcater i was gonna say the same thing. rowing is a true testament to your mental toughness
@@dpcater agreed. i pulled a 6:59.5 at age 15 a couple months ago, a 15 second PR after about half a year of training-with no one there to yell at me. I pushed so hard that I went past my max heart rate and when i finished i threw up for 40 minutes. torture for sure
@@dpcater mentaltoughness is a very useful attribute. any tips for a young rower like me?
@@dpcater this is awesome, i really appreicate this long reply. i hope you know youre helping shape my rowing career. i hope to row for college. out of curiousity, because you said you were a poor high school athlete, how long did it take you to get below 6:00?
You can tell Mitch is a cardio beast. Nick looks like he easily has 25+ lbs of solid muscle over his pacer. It's simply not easy to carry all that weight at any pace, that he did a mile in under 5 minutes is brutal.
He's a straight up runner. He's essentially a junkie babysitting a less-experienced user while not getting as high himself as he would normally be getting. Dude cannot wait to get his real workout in. I used to live that life.
The best I've ever run was when I was sophomore in high school soccer and it was a 5:54 at a whopping 5'6 and 135 lbs. Nick is insane. Makes me wanna start running again.
bro thats my exact height and weight right now 😂
and im a sophomore in high school
@@giovonni.mentality hes you from the future
Are you 180lbs now?
That’s exactly what I ran in Football was a 5:54, or 5:56. They made us run a mile one practice cause the coaches were mad at us lol. I never ran for the fun of it, or trained for it. Football is mostly just sprints, but that mile tore me up.
What’s amazing is the fact that we all runners share one thing in common and that is maximum effort that we put in our runs. I love the way you ran mate. I have to try something like this.
The pacer having full conversation while running that quick. Holy shit. He would’ve pissed me off and it would’ve made me run faster LOL
When I was wrestling in high school sitting at 177lbs I ran a 5:51 mile. I felt like I was going to die 😂 this man is insane.
Those 6 minutes made it feel like you was running for hours 😂
His coach wasn't even breathing heavily lol what a freak
@@TommyHiggz fr everyone talking about Nick but Mitch is a freak of fucking nature, man wasn't zoned in at all. Sub-5 is nothing for him.
I ran a 4:56 mile two weeks in a row when I was 17. Districts and regionals in track. Exact same time both weeks- 4:56. It was the absolute best I could do. I have no regrets. I was 6'1" and 165 lbs at the time. You have no idea how crazy it is to run 4:53 at 194 lbs. It's INSANE!!
6'1" and you were 165? Holy fuck, I guess I'm overweight at 180 pounds 5'8" lol
Hey, good point. that is what I am thinking when kids here are bragging that they can run sub 5.0 , forgetting that running @ 195 pounds is not same as running @ 140 pounds . Also there is a age factor.
@@DiabolicMagicSquare if he lost 40lbs and trained for distance running he would be fast asf like 4:20 range without a doubt.
It's a good time, but definitely not "INSANE". I ran a solo mile time trial this year in 4:47 at 6' 190lbs and 37 y.o. and I'm just a mediocre runner so 🤷. That time gets blown out of the water at any county high school competition.
190lbs here, almost 40, adn after six months of training i get to 6minutes 15secs. Working hard to get it under 6. Thanks Nick for motivation !

5:51 for me
That is how I feel running a mile in 12 minutes. Need to step up my game.
You got to build strength with your heart. The best way to do it is trying to keep a consistent heart rate when you go for jogs. Build that initial strength and you'll know when u can push it more, it will take time but its fun to do !
Do more workouts other than running such as burpees, sprints, incline walking, jumping Jacks.
The other dude running as a pacer, Nick running a 5min is awesome. Other dude doing it casually as a pacer while calling out times and motivating, is baller. Props to Nick and his support team.

I got 4:40 at state when I was 17 years old, 110 lbs. Now I'm 155lbs, and I'd like to see what I can do now. 190 and a sub 5 is insane! Great work!
I'm 36 and ran a 7:00 mile today and it was a big accomplishment for me. I ran a 5:38 at 17 years old and I'm hoping to beat that record some day. I don't know what happened this summer but I just decided to run every single day, long distance and shorter faster runs like this. I love it so much.

@@Smokeizi When you run competitively from the age of 11 a breaking 5:00 is always a big milestone. Racing in High School I was around a lot of the same competitors and we would inch closer to that sub-5 mark. Once its broken though, its easy for that to become the new standard and at a certain point its easy to become desensitized. In college, just about everyone who races the mile as their main event is in the mid to low 4's. I hope I didn't come off as making it seem easy. It certainly takes a lot of dedication and training to get to the sub 5:00 mark and shows an excellent level of cardiovascular fitness and a harness of both the aerobic and anaerobic systems.
@Smokeizi These online clowns just run their mouths, it's stupid... breaking 6 mins for the mile is big for the vast majority of the population. Honestly, if I don't see video proof of their claims, I just take it with a grain of salt.

Andre Johnson still have to have an engine behind the wheels
Zach Catalano Yes but the wheels bounce like a tennis ball on the ground
Zach Catalano oh agreed, Nike has nailed the technology that if the right”engine” uses them can pull of some ridiculous human feats. kipchoge definitely proved that with the new vaporfly and same here with nick. I can also attest to them, ran my first full in the original version and it was a lost less taxing than my training pair of Pegasus which I can do a 5’30 in but my body is wrecked afterwards.

That's awesome. My PR in high school was 5:35. I'm 30lbs heavier now and just started running again. My goal is 5:30 in 3 months.
I mean PEDs are helpful but I just do t think they are worth it.
@@jacobedsell8850 Awesome, where are you at right now?
My highschool record was 4:30. You can thank a breakup for that time. I just kept running amd running
@@owen246 I am currently at 7:35 as of my benchmark mile yesterday. I am down 35 seconds from last week's 8:10 benchmark. I am hoping that my goal date of August 4th gives me enough time to reach my goal.
Pairing running with a cleaner diet, I hope to lose weight and gain some confidence and discipline over the next few months.
I am 5'4", 162lbs, and at about 22% body fat. When I achieved my PR of 5:35 I was 5'4", 130-135, and probably around 14% (skinny fat) body fat.
Not only did he run this, he ran this side by side with the pacer instead of behind him. Running behind people like in a race will let you not run against the wind and makes it easier, yet he did this without anyone else racing with him and with no competition.
Absolute beast!!!!! You pushed hard at the end and gave it everything. Thank you for recording And commentating this man. I’m aiming for sub-5:00 and this is super motivational 🙌🙌🙌🙌
I did 5:20 at 196lbs. Still work to do man. Thanks for the inspiration 🙌🏼
Brice Roques
That’s a great time!
Give me some tips man 😔
Lalit Magar R just run more. Go one more ;)
The length of this video is exactly my avg per mile pace LOL trying to improve my pace for military training, thanks man for inspiration!
Same for military
Both you and Mitch are beast. The speed you guys ran this race demonstrates just how fit you two are. I'm new to running and you guys definitely inspired me. By the way, I love the shoes you're wearing, Nick.
was 2 and 4 seconds short on trying the sub 5min the last 3 days. recover and trying again next week. thanks for the motivational video Nick!
Tell me if you succeed
Wow, seems really rare you see someone that built that can run too.
Love how he casually mentions he sandwiches this run in between a combined “warmup/cool down” of 7 mins at 7:30 pace 🤣
i don't get it
@@Postermaestro a 7:30 pace is still very quick
Lol, ur actually supposed to warm up pretty hard before a race, like u shd he dripping in sweat(not tired though ) for short distance sprint type races
@@jacobbraybrook5211 i mean not if you run sub 5 min mile
@@Postermaestro yeah but to the average person, that's what the joke was
Today my pr is 8min mile. Wanted to quit at 0.5 but stopped thinking. Goal is sub 7. Always hated running. I'm 40 now and got a treadmill. Peleton for 2 months. Love it.
That other guy was impressive 😂 he was constantly watching the time and making he stayed with him. Awesome
You left it all out there! I love to see it! Maximum Effort! Proud of you dude! #Grit&Grind
This guys cool down is my top speed. Beast mode 😎
Keep going man. You keep us motivated.
That's impressive! My PR was 5:15, but I was 16 and 140lbs soaking wet. Now I'm in my 30s and ballooned to 260lbs 😭 Soon as I'm down to 200lbs I'm gonna start running and try to get close to my PR.
Wow. That pace man is incredible and at almost 200 pounds, amazing job.
Your an absolute beast bro. I started running two months ago and I kinda like it. You inspired me to get into running
he helped me get started too! Keep going, it's so worth it! I'm down 50lbs from the start!
this is so good :) I love the the teamwork. It's so good to have friends who are faster than you!
Hey Nick, just wanted to give you a shout-out from Romania brother. You are a real inspiration all over the world, hope you know that. Keep going my man.
My best mile time was a 5:20 back when I was in college in 1983 . At the time, I weighed 217 as I was a linebacker at Alabama. A sub 5:00 minute mile is awesome for anyone especially for someone of your size. Great job! 💪
5:20 at 217? Good lord
I’m trying to beat my 5:50 PR by the first Saturday in June. Been doing a lot of 8 minute mile paced runs and it’s gonna be awesome.
DarthBane1024 good luck
Good luck man
Good luck man keep it up. Try to incorporate speed workouts too, that'll definitely help you
I agree with Kayo, try incorporating pyramid intervals 200, 400, 800, 400, 200 meter runs @race pace with rest in between. It will help prepare your body for the race. It takes 8-10 days to see results of the workout so time it properly with your race.
To run at that speed the way you're built, wow! Congratulations!
This is speed
That is incredible! I ran a 3:04 marathon recently for a massive PR but haven’t run faster than 5:30
Dustin Maher still incredible!
You will break 3 hours next time! And for a faster mile, you gotta hit those speed workouts. 200m repeats, 400 repeats, and maybe even 800m repeats.
That’s nuts, dude. Can’t do anything less than a 7:30
Your video inspired me to get a PB of 5:02 today and made me feel that sub 5 is possible!
It’s impressive that his pacer knows exactly how fast to run to come in just under five minutes, that’s a man who is spent a vast amount of time running and keeping the rhythm in his head knowing his pace
Yeah because I always have to look at my watch there’s times when I think I’m running at a 8:00 pace and I’m actually running a 6:30 or when I think I’m going 6:00 but actually going like 7:15
He does check his watch tho
Now does the watch actually tell you how fast you’re going or does he merely go by landmarks and time?
@@chrislaverick6413 his watch shows the time, pace and distance.
@@chrislaverick6413 it gives your pace based off the time and your distance
