It's not like the human genome has magically gotten better over the past century. All that increase is due to shoes, specialized diets, not running on dirt (all tracks from that era were literally dirt) MUCH more intense training, and of course, performance-enhancing drugs.

This is so crazy. Sometimes I'll run on a treadmill at 8.5 mph for a mile and that gets me pretty out of breath as a casual runner. That's like a 7 minute mile. A lot of people are better runners than me no doubt, but seeing a 3:49 mile is just crazy.
As a former "tracker" , ALL of those young Men did excellent ! I could see him getting tired of being forced to be 2nd in line when he knew he could move faster , and then he did. He ran His Race the way he wanted to and knew he could . I like that ! It is a manifestation of Confidence backed by Competence and Skill. I love to see that !

My best mile was a 4:57 I was 32 years old. I trained hard for like 8 months went from 180lbs to 148 and I'm 6 foot tall it got to be seriously u healthy the lifestyle I was accustom to to obtain the speed I needed. Sub 4s are mind blowing
They re-uploaded the wrong video. He did run 3:49 in the kit shown in the caption at the BU track. They however uploaded and earlier vid while he was still running for Oregon. They might have done it intentionally to watch the infighting. But I've seen the correct video on this channel.

I know I'm surprised. I, personally, myself, am an olympic runner who won gold. I ran a mile of 3:02 and only didn't break the 3 minute barrier because of racism.

That means how long you can go before your muscles start getting that dreaded burning sensation. So yeah, just run a lot, go on long, moderate pace runs and recover well(listen to ur body. If you’re too sore you should take a rest or massage the area, stuff like that). Sry for the paragraph but yeah there’s a lot that comes into play for better performance in the mile/long distance races.
