I'm A CAP cadet and one of the eventual goals are to run a 5:00 mile. This video just gave me a ton of inspiration to hopefully reach that goal some day. Thank you!
I ran very competitively in high school with my best mile time being a 4:35. For anyone who doesn't run, just know that hundreds of hours and thousands and thousands of miles go into running at this level. I remember biking to school every day at 5:30am to run 4 miles with my guys before showering and going to class, then getting out of school to run and train for 3-4 more hours. Waking up at 6:00 all summer and a lot of times running close to a marathon in a day when you add in afternoon practice. Kudos to you Luis! Such an impressive time congrats.
I find your training so inspiring! As a 53 year old runner and coach myself, I learn so much from you that I can pass on to my clients! Keep pushing Luis!
Great Run, Luis. Do you find yourself regularly with a tight lower back? You have pronounced anterior pelvic tilt. I had the same issue and now doing corrective exercises. All the best.
@@Gabriel_JudgeofHellI started at 6:36 my first meet three years ago. I finished track at state with a time of 4:44 after 2 and a half years. You got that. Shoot for 5:30. I ran 5:48 during my first season at region.
I run around 7 minutes for marathon pace. I’ve only been running three years. You got this man! I started a 6:36 though, but you’ll get to a 4 minute mile eventually. That took me two years.
Other than conditioning of course, the secret is the economy of movement not being a struggle or sluggish but actually a smooth economy. So when you try to launch your buttocks muscles to propel yourself forward real hard like you were sprinting that would be an explosive exertion which strains energy thus eventually effecting your economy of movement and that hard launching from your buttocks as if you were sprinting also makes you land your foot harder, and the hard landing of your foot will definitely make your economy of movement sluggish (obviously from the hard landing of the foot slowing you down). So the best way to keep a smooth economy of movement is having most of your energy applied to bringing your leg forward. That is not to say make your knees high, which can deter economical movement, but it is the same focus of energy to swinging your legs forward. If most of your focus is on this main movement of swinging leg forward, you'll then notice economy of movement becomes much smoother and the whole ordeal is less troublesome. Part of why focusing energy mainly on swinging your leg forward enhances your economy is because by the time your foot lands for that abrasive pounding to the floor it's not that abrasive because the energy of swinging your leg forward has it's residual energy ride off into the foot landing and leaving quickly. Meaning the energy of the leg swung forward is a momentum carried into your foot-landing and that momentum aids in lessening the load of landing, so the foot landing actually piggy backs energy off of the leg swinging forward. When both your legs are focused on swinging the leg forward they both swing almost like a pendulum, and the pendulum of both your legs alternately swinging forward is a very economical movement by this "pendulum". And of course as I said initially, it's a lot of condition over time but it's also all about regulating your Respiratory activity. You want the breath to control the motor exertion, don't let the motor exertion overtake your breath (breath has to always be on top). One way to help be acquainted with that is to kinda hold your breath for just half a second before you exhale it (technique called box breathing). So conditioning over time, strengthen Respiratory by sort of holding your breath a bit with the breath dictating exertion (not exertion dictating your breath), and like two alternating pendulums the main focus of your energy is swinging that leg forward (unlike sprinting which is launching from the buttocks to propel yourself hard forward). These are just my thoughts from experience, sorry for suddenly ranting here lol, just thinking aloud

Wow this was awesome, im a beginner runner and i just today did a 1.5 mile in 23:30. I've been training for maybe about a month or so where at first i could barely run for a few minutes before having to walk a few minutes and repeat. Now on my slow runs i can go 20 to 25 minutes straight. I wish I had motivators like you had for me its just a solo grind on a treadmill to better myself and to train to join the navy.
Thats awesome! Keep up the hard work because it is so rewarding once you begin to see results. Before you know it, you will be able to run twcie as far, and twice as fast as you can now. I hope one day you revisit this comment and you can compare how much you have achieved throughout your training! Cheers! 😄
@@Lx91y I ran my first ever 5k the day after I made the comment too in 54:11 I went for 30 minutes straight in the beginning too so I’m already starting to break through that 20-25 minute run without stopping
I do intervals at this pace and even though I have to try not to kick the treadmill on an incline I only last a minute or two at most. A whole mile? Not if I plan on doing anything physical afterwards, possibly for the rest of the week.
What system do you train under? I’m a high school runner currently and I’m on Paavo running 60 a week, I heard you talk about tempos and I was wondering if it was Paavo or not.
My junior year of high school track I got first place in the 800m with a time of 2:09. It was one of the only times i ever placed that high and was one of the best days of my life. My man here just did that as a split for a mile, unbelievable.
How do u feel about interval vs zone 2 for a short period of training. Let's say like a month or 2. I'm starting some mtb races and realized how out of shape I am to be competitive. I need my 35min lap to be a 31min lap. I find I just burn out really quick on this course and my legs r dead the rest of the way. What would u recomend to get past that initial burn quicker? I suppose interval training would benefit me. That first sprint is like 5min thru grass. I feel I could work up to a 5min interval quicker than I could build it thru zone 2 training

A lap a minute is beyond impressive!! Keep it up man! Happy for where you're at and where you're going 🎉
I love that running form, very satisfying to watch lol
thank you so much!
12 year powerlifter getting into running and this kind of stuff looks exciting. The training element and environment is so much different than regular jogging.
Happy to hear that! And yes is way more that regular jogging...you will love this new chapter of your life! 🙏
Wow ... incredible. Keep at it mate !!! I got chills since you killed it ... well deserved sir
Thanks so much, it means a lot! 🙏
Just curious, what is your usual training schedule for the week?
(currently i’m trying to break a 5 minute mile before track starts this year.)
Good stuff man ! I’ve been running for a couple of weeks and my best is 10 min now. Gotta get down to four minutes now
Love your channel and the Kenyan series excellent production especially with last one with Paul Chalimo follow you both and Sage Canaday Athletes special and both girlfriends lol . Solid content bro looking forward to seeing more
Your foot lands in front of your Center of Gravity (waist/torso) - slowing yourself down .... Do you feel like you are Front -hitting? Definitely looks like you are giving away speed and momentum each stride. (Not leaning forward - you lean high and back) Thoughts?
i think its partially that but its also just his size he has to work alot more than any other runner just because he has around 3 feet of legs
some east africans runners have run really fast with "poor" running form
Looks like Posterior Pelvic Tilt
2:00
Mountains look beautiful in the back. Good stuff
Saludos de Seattle hermano!
Gracias y saludos hermano!
I had to listen without watching for a second and was happy to hear the pitter patters of feet still moving strong. That's awesome!
Dang that's wild! I just got into running, training for my sprint triathlon. I did my fastest ever 5k (and first ones ever while training for the triathlon) at 24:14. Started at 39!! I've never even had a max mile pace at below 5:50s!
Luis eres un GRANDE 💪💪💪😎, te deseo mucha fuerza y mucha salud en tus días venideros, MUCHO ANIMO
Gracias hermano, lo mismo💪
What a beautiful track, excellent pace, and the encouragement from others is so great to hear
Incredible video and athlete. Keep up the hard work and training. WOW!! Much respect for all the track and field athletes and cross-country runners. My best time was 7:10 for 1.5 miles in the Academy.
Much appreciated! 🙏🏃♂️
absolutely incredible... so impressive Luis!
Your welcomed to come visit Gallup NM (6,400 ft elevation). Lots of great trail running around Navajo Nation!

Amazing work!! Good luck on your race!
Thank you🙏
Respect to the cameraman not even breaking a sweat.
Unbelievable!. Very good job.
I need to start running again. You're amazing, brother. Stay healthy 👍
That was amazing! Great job! Pacers were excellent 💯
Just awesome. Only wish I could even come close.
Buen video, esta chévere el detalle del cronómetro en la esquina.
Excellent work Luis 👏🏾👏🏾👊🏾
Thank you 🙌
I need a community like this 😢
Wow this was awesome, im a beginner runner and i just today did a 1.5 mile in 23:30.
I am following this workout while at the gym.. this is awesome
Ohhh shit, running's in my algorithm now
Now you have to go for a run!
This is awesome man, keep pushing it!!💪🏽
Thank you! Will do! 💪
my pr is 420 and definately didn't lookas smooth and relaxed asthat, plus you're running in altitude. what time are you shooting for in the 5k?
3:49 is my PR on 5k
I do intervals at this pace and even though I have to try not to kick the treadmill on an incline I only last a minute or two at most. A whole mile? Not if I plan on doing anything physical afterwards, possibly for the rest of the week.
That’s beautiful man love it 🔥!!! I miss running
I dont know why I find so much joy in watching someone running fast, but I do.
What system do you train under? I’m a high school runner currently and I’m on Paavo running 60 a week, I heard you talk about tempos and I was wondering if it was Paavo or not.
Amazing to watch, thanks for that experience
I don't even know you and i was hyped for you man. You're fast and you ran that in a high elevation which is'more impressive.
That’s incredible. You’re an amazing runner.
Amazing camerawork!
This is probably a novice question but are the runners in front of you meant to keep a certain pace so you don't have to look at your watch?
That’s right. The pacer also takes the brunt of the wind/air resistance so the runner behind em’ can have an easier time.
Mis respetos hermano! Really great job!
I was so engrossed with this I burnt my toast. Worth it.
hahaha love it
Bro his legs looked like cartoons at the end. Dude fast af.
😅 Thanks!
That dude in the red pants is a beast as well.
Inspiring stuff
He is! 🏃🙏
woah that was wild! So freakin awesome
🙏🙏🙏 Thanks
My junior year of high school track I got first place in the 800m with a time of 2:09. It was one of the only times i ever placed that high and was one of the best days of my life. My man here just did that as a split for a mile, unbelievable.
Thanks 🙏
I would have stopped a few times running, I run about 9:50 but I have to stop and walk. How do I get the cardio or endurance to keep running
Start slow, make a workout schedule, never give up! 💪💪💪
Hello luis how many times do you train per day and what training are they? Greetings, your content is very good
4:29 to 4:17 really good bro 🔥🇮🇳 can u plz tell us one mile workout for intermediate runners
It don’t feel weird after a while running on spikes?
in hs i ran a 4:37 i was a junior and was training for a marathon in sf i never did the marathon and stopped running shortly after
How do u feel about interval vs zone 2 for a short period of training.
What a beast !!!!
As he’s finishing, I’m about to hit my 3rd lap 😪
🤣❤️🙏
