  • 🟡This is the third video from the series about acrylic. In the previous video, we figured out how to cut and engrave acrylic, the link to the video will be in the description.
🟡We receive many questions from our customers on how to engrave acrylic on Wattsan machines. In this video, we will show you 4 methods of engraving acrylic, each of which is interesting in its own way and suitable for different tasks.
🟡Plexiglass has some features of cutting on a laser machine, but the main differences are related to cutting thin and thick plexiglass, as well as cutting products with sharp edges.
🟡You can easily find acrylic products even at home: transparent stands, business card holders, key rings, souvenirs and even aquariums.
🟡Some products are exclusively cut on the machine, and for some both cutting and engraving are carried out. Especially interesting are products with engraving with backlighting.

I found a new way for engraving you might be interested in. The black poster board worked fair with a lot of clean up. I found if you use the poster board and raise the acrylic by a 1/2 mm from the poster board it will not stick to the acrylic. So there is hardly any clean up needed with a fantastic burn.

But wouldn't this be too expensive? do you have to use a new poster board every time you want to engrave?

What are you applying on the surface before engraving

    • @virmercnc

Hi! Thank you for you comment!
      1) Method by applying WD-40 to the surface.
This method allows for getting rid of white residue. Apply a layer of WD40 to the pre-cut acrylic before engraving. Start the process of engraving. When it is done, wipe the product. After wiping, no residue is visible, but on the surface, there are some oil stains, which must be wiped with soap and water. It is worth noting that this method is only suitable for engraving pieceworks.
      2) Method by applying a soap solution.
Prepare the soap solution before engraving: dissolve some soap in water and stir it up. Apply the solution to the material using a brush, sponge or cotton wool. Start the engraving process. Remember to make sure that the engraving area does not dry out. Then use a regular damp sponge to rinse off the solution. This method allows for the image with a very high-quality contrast and neat edges.

And yet no mention whatsoever about which type of Acrylic you should use... This information is crucial. When engraving, you should always use 'Cast' acrylic instead of 'Extruded'. You results will be much better and much clearer.

Hi! Thank you for your comment and feedback!
If you are on a tight budget, extruded acrylic may work for you. However, cast acrylic is indeed better if you need superior clarity and durability. Ultimately, the decision depends on your specific needs and preferences.
