can we engrave on acrylic using 20w or 15w DIY laser ? and we have to paint it black too? why can not we engrave transparent acrylic directly with 20w laser?
Yes, you can engrave. Dark colors are best. The diode laser just shines through the clear acrylic. I have shown engraving on acrylic by actually engraving on the metal below the acrylic and it will burn onto the acrylic
When you laser the glass how did you get the white color? I love the project and am trying to learn. I did a pie plate but it’s difficult to see the etching because it’s clear unless I have a dark backround
I would try using a white paint, if you intend on eating on the plates it could be bad idea,, as thhe food and such will get into the engraving, another thing that works on glass or plates, is T-O Titanium-Oxide, comes in powder form and you mix it with anything from water to paint thinners, I used plain alcohol as it helps the drying time, as anything you use it needs to be put on thick, so several coats work better.
Thanks to everyone that let me know of a voice over problem. Hopefully, problem solved.

Dark colors should work. I have not tried other colors
@@PawPawsWorkShop cool thank.
I saw dark blue at Dollar Tree today and thought of this video. I have a 15W diode laser and an anxious to try to
I purchased a Trotec Rayjet 50. Is the techniques the same? Also what kind of image do you use and what preparation must you do to get the image ready for engraving?
How long did it take to engrave using this method at those speeds/power?
It only took about five minutes. Speed and power were in the video.

Wow I must be setting something wrong. For fill 20 hrs. About the same size but lots of text. 0:08 0:08 10watt laser
NEWBE. Help
wait which did you like better? tempura or rustoleum?
Tempera is for the cleat glass. Rust-o-leum is for ceramic. Big difference
@@PawPawsWorkShop ty I didn’t hear that in your video
How hard is it to get that primer paint off the glass??
This is tempera paint. It washes off very easily with water
Oh I meant the spray paint you used
Just wipes off with lacquer thinner. Very little mess
If I have a 40w laser (atom stack A5 pro) would I still use 60% power or would I do 30% for the same 12w power?
Great starting point. Adjust and test to get it just right
does this just give a frosty look or is it gritty feeling ontop of glass?
It actually etches the glass. An alternative is to engrave on the back of the glass. You’ll get the same image just smooth on the surface
@@PawPawsWorkShop oh ok that just answered it then haha thank you!
@@PawPawsWorkShop Remember to invert the image if you do the back.😉 Clackshack has a video where he LED backlights a mirror. It looks great.
can we engrave on acrylic using 20w or 15w DIY laser ? and we have to paint it black too? why can not we engrave transparent acrylic directly with 20w laser?
Yes, you can engrave. Dark colors are best. The diode laser just shines through the clear acrylic. I have shown engraving on acrylic by actually engraving on the metal below the acrylic and it will burn onto the acrylic
Would this work with the JTech laser?
Yes, you may need to adjust the settings or do two passes
Brilliant tutorial, can i ask if the spray paint you used was oil based or water based?
The spray black was just rustoleum and it did not work as well as the tempera paint that I brushed on
@@PawPawsWorkShop I can't get Tempera in Ireland, Is it acrylic based?
No, it’s a very cheap paint that is often used in elementary school for art projects
What Cnc laser machine are you using ?
Good video, however, ALWAYS burn glass and acrylic engravings from the backside (reverse image). Try it.
I have done that several times on acrylic and glass. It is a great technique
When you laser the glass how did you get the white color? I love the project and am trying to learn. I did a pie plate but it’s difficult to see the etching because it’s clear unless I have a dark backround
The white color is the glass itself. It’s normal to see the etching better with the black background
What is the actual engraving power of your laser? 3 watts? Found it... 5.5 watts optical... thanks!
On a 20 watt input you generally get about 5.5 watts output
